Abstract

Indonesia continues to face persistent challenges in reading literacy, particularly among children of migrant workers who lack access to quality formal education. This study explores the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media in enhancing the reading skills of Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia. Utilizing a quantitative pretest-posttest design, this study involved 34 elementary school students enrolled at At-Tanzil Learning Center in Selangor. The intervention consisted of interactive AR-enhanced picture storybooks, designed to improve reading motivation, letter and word recognition, and reading comprehension. Data were analyzed through simple linear regression analysis using SPSS. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students' reading abilities after the use of AR media (t = 2.629, p = .012), with an R² value of 0.136, indicating a 13.6% effect size. The results suggest that AR integration into literacy instruction can meaningfully support early reading development, particularly in the reading skill aspect. Furthermore, the use of immersive and interactive technologies has been shown to increase student engagement, comprehension, and motivation to read. These outcomes underline the potential of AR as a pedagogical tool for marginalized populations and offer practical implications for educators, policymakers, and instructional designers aiming to bridge literacy gaps through accessible and technology-supported interventions. This study contributes to the growing body of research on digital learning innovations and highlights the role of AR in promoting inclusive literacy education across transnational and underserved contexts.

Abstract

This community service program was conducted at Sanggar Bimbingan At Tanjil, Lembah Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia, with the aim of introducing information technology literacy and promoting economic independence based on prophetic values among children and parents of Indonesian migrant workers. The program applied a qualitative participatory approach, involving direct observation, interviews, and training workshops to identify and address the community’s specific needs in digital literacy, financial management, and moral education. The intervention included workshops on healthy internet use, family financial literacy, and the internalization of prophetic values such as honesty, responsibility, and diligence. Results showed that participants demonstrated improved understanding and skills in utilizing digital technology responsibly, managing finances wisely, and applying ethical principles in daily life. Despite challenges related to limited facilities and parental involvement, the program effectively strengthened community awareness and fostered collaboration between lecturers, students, and local leaders. In conclusion, the integration of technology education, financial literacy, and prophetic ethics offers an effective model for empowering migrant communities to achieve sustainable independence in both digital and economic aspects

Abstract

This study examines the application of Private International Law (PIL) in resolving cross-border trademark disputes, focusing on the case of IKEA Sweden versus PT Ratania Khatulistiwa Indonesia. The dispute arose due to differing legal principles: Indonesia’s legal system adheres to the first to file principle, while international systems recognize the first use principle and the protection of well-known trademarks. The Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia ruled in favor of the domestic party, concluding that IKEA Sweden did not meet the criteria for active use of the trademark in Indonesia. This study employs a normative legal approach using a descriptive-analytical method through literature review. The analysis is based on primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials and incorporates statutory, conceptual, and case approaches, encompassing the principles of jurisdiction, choice of law, and recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments. The findings reveal that the Indonesian legal system has not fully accommodated PIL principles, particularly regarding the protection of well-known trademarks. The lack of harmony between the principle of good faith and the principle of territoriality has resulted in legal uncertainty, especially for foreign investors. Moreover, the recognition and enforcement mechanism for foreign judgments remains ineffective, potentially leading to conflicting rulings in multi-forum litigation. This study concludes that reformulating the national legal system in alignment with PIL principles and international standards is crucial to enhancing trademark protection and fostering legal certainty in support of a globally competitive investment climate.
