Abstract

The use of probiotics in food products, particularly yogurt, has gained increasing attention due to their prospective health benefits, such as modulating gut microbiota and enhancing immunity. A community service program was aimed to provide education and training on the production of probiotic yogurt to the women of Majelis Taklim Al-Muhajirat around Al-Muhajirin Mosque, as one of the target communities in the implemented region. The program consisted of preparation, training, and evaluation stages. The outcomes of this activity provided participants with improved knowledge, especially regarding the process of yogurt production. The program also demonstrated active participation from women with diverse backgrounds in age, education, and occupation. Based on the questionnaire results, the participants’ knowledge and skills prior to the program (pre-test) were 89%. After the program (post-test), these scores increased to 95%. This community service initiative is expected to improve the participants’ understanding of the potential for developing yogurt products within their local environment, while also creating business opportunities and additional sources of income. Abstract

Indonesian coffee discoveries are increasingly focusing on the optimal utilization of under-explored species such as Coffea liberica, which can be diversified into market and tourism opportunities. This study investigates the perception of expert panelists on the flavor, post-harvest practices, and tourism potential of liberica coffee cultivated in Poncokusumo. A structured Likert-scale questionnaire was administered to nine panelists, and data were analyzed using classical assumption tests and multiple linear regression. Results indicate that panelists acknowledged the distinctiveness and acceptability of liberica coffee's flavor profile, with sensory attributes such as body, balance, and sweetness significantly influencing perception (R² = 0.489). Cultivation and roasting were considered highly adaptable, with balance and coffee accession types contributing to the perception of liberica coffee’s post-harvest process (R² = 0.274). Furthermore, sensory elements such as aftertaste, aroma, body, and total score played a significant role in shaping panelists’ enthusiasm toward coffee tourism (R² = 0.576). The study highlights that sensory preferences for balance, sweetness, and light body can guide the market positioning of liberica coffee while enhancing visitor experience and supporting identity-based coffee tourism development in Poncokusumo. By linking sensory quality with experiential tourism design, C. liberica can become a niche product for sustainable rural development.

Abstract

Utilization of hospital services varies according to patient characteristics. As Faisal Islamic Hospital Makassar serves both urban and non-urban populations, understanding the determinants of service utilization is essential for improving equitable access. This study examined the influence of geographic and socioeconomic factors on outpatient service utilization. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 99 outpatients. Service utilization was categorized as new versus return visits, while independent variables included education, occupation, income, and residential location. Chi-square tests with a 95% confidence level were used for analysis. Income (p = 0.026) and residential location (p = 0.019) were significantly associated with service utilization, whereas education (p = 0.363) and occupation (p = 0.165) were not. Patients with higher income and those living within the city were more likely to make return visits. These findings highlight the need for service strategies that maintain quality for frequent users while enhancing access for lower-income and out-of-city patients.
