Abstract

This research explores the tradition of Lumales (stepping in noble trails) as a medium for Minahasa tou to now understand the concept of omnipresent divinity in local traditions. At the same time, it dismisses the misunderstanding that local traditions do not have an element of God's omnipresence. This research will explore the experiences of the ancestors with the Holy One, the Omniscient God, through all the paths of life they have built. Furthermore, the exploration carried out on Lumales cultural activities will use a qualitative research approach combined with an ethnographic approach. This research will depart from oral data that is transmitted and is still maintained among cultural actors and Minahasa people in several villages. Furthermore, based on such an approach, the author will offer Lumales: Experiencing God Omnnipresent in the cultural activities of Tou Minahasa Christianity now as a theology based on the local Minahasa narrative.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential for implementing a circular economy in waste management in Tomohon City as an effort to support the transition toward a green economy. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using field observation, in-depth interviews with environmental and economic actors, and policy document analysis. The research was conducted in strategic locations such as the Final Disposal Site (TPA), traditional markets, waste banks, and tourist destinations that serve as centers of community activity and tourism. Findings show that the current waste management system in Tomohon still follows a linear model, resulting in significant environmental pressures. However, local initiatives such as plastic recycling by MSMEs, organic composting, and active participation in waste banks provide early indications of successful circular practices. Nevertheless, scalability and integration of these models into the regional economy remain limited due to infrastructure constraints, technical capacity, and weak policy coordination. Based on these findings, recommendations include the need for investment in waste processing infrastructure, institutional strengthening of waste banks, formulation of local policies oriented toward circular economy principles, and increased community participation through education and economic incentives. With the implementation of these recommendations, Tomohon has the potential to become a model for sustainable waste management based on the circular economy in Indonesia’s mountainous urban regions.

Abstract

This research discusses the ethical and theological study of the impact of plastic waste on tourism life in the GMIM Patmos Bunaken Congregation, which is the most critical part, so it must be maintained and preserved as a form of our responsibility to God as written in the book of Genesis 1: 26 – 28. Moreover, this research uses qualitative research by conducting interviews at the GMIM Patmos Bunaken Congregation, Bunaken Region. Data was obtained through observation, interviews, documentation, and data analysis. The analysis results show that most congregation members already have a sense of responsibility for not throwing away plastic waste carelessly because this has a fatal impact on the beauty of tourism in Bunaken National Park. Through this research, it is hoped that members of the congregation will be more aware of how important it is to protect and preserve God's creation and also know that throwing away plastic waste carelessly will hurt the environment, health, and even the economy of the congregation.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of biblical values and women’s empowerment in community-based environmental stewardship through the Waste Bank program at Getsemani Church in Manado, Indonesia. Rapid urbanization and inadequate waste management have intensified ecological and social challenges, including flooding and public health risks. While faith communities are increasingly recognized as potential agents of sustainability, the role of theological motivation and gender dynamics in environmental actions remains underexplored. This study aims to analyze how biblical principles inform ecological practices and how women’s participation contributes to the effectiveness and sustainability of local waste management initiatives. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining qualitative case studies, participatory action research, quantitative surveys, and theological literature analysis. Data were collected from 25 key informants and 100 survey respondents supported by field observations and document reviews. The findings indicate that values such as stewardship (Genesis 2:15) and creation care (Psalm 24:1) serve as strong moral motivators, with a positive correlation (Pearson’s r = 0.68) between biblical literacy and program participation. Women constituted 75% of active participants, driving operational success, economic returns (average IDR 4.5/month), and community engagement. Their involvement has led to a 35% reduction in landfill-bound waste and improved drainage conditions, thus mitigating localized flooding. Furthermore, the program enhanced women’s financial autonomy and social recognition within the church and the broader community. The study concludes that faith-based environmental initiatives, when rooted in theological convictions and inclusive of women’s leadership, can generate tangible ecological, economic, and social impacts. This model offers a replicable framework for urban churches seeking to respond to ecological crises through spiritually grounded, community led action.

Abstract

Online games are games that are currently popular among teenagers. The presence of online games in teenagers' lives has both positive and negative impacts on teenagers' lives. This research aims to conduct a Theological Ethical Review of teenagers in their use of online game media which has an addictive impact and makes teenagers less willing to give themselves to worship because of the influence of online games. The research method that researchers use is a case study with data collection carried out by interviews and direct observation. The results of the research show that in the Worship Fellowship there are still teenagers who are aware of the influence caused by the use of online games and there are also teenagers who are less active and less aware in the Worship Fellowship because of the influence of online gaming media.

Abstract

Accelerating environmental degradation demands cohesive theological responses, yet current models often treat ecological concerns in isolation. Addressing this gap, the study develops an integrated eco-theological framework for Indonesian Protestant congregations by uniting stewardship theology, cosmotheandric theology, and environmental liberation theology. Employing a multi-method qualitative design, researchers conducted forty semi-structured interviews with clergy, lay leaders, and program participants across four pilot sites; carried out participant observation during eco-liturgy services and community stewardship activities; and systematically analyzed liturgical texts, training curricula, and advocacy reports. Findings reveal that the synthesized framework fosters an eco-spirituality balancing reflective theology on divine–creation interdependence, embodied liturgical practices, and transformative environmental advocacy. Empirical evidence shows strengthened congregational commitment to sustainable initiatives, such as habitat restoration projects and green liturgies, while maintaining theological coherence. This holistic model offers a replicable paradigm for faith communities seeking to integrate deep theological conviction with concrete ecological action.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to examine the phenomenon of cohabitation in the GMIM Talitakum Kum Pondang congregation and formulate an ethical-theological response from the church based on Stanley Hauerwas’ Christian ethical thinking. Using a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, data was obtained through observation and interviews with pastors, special servants, and congregations. The results of the study show that the practice of cohabitation arises due to economic factors, the search for compatibility, and changes in the moral values of the younger generation. Church ministers acknowledge cohabitation as an act that contradicts the sanctity of marriage, but respond to it through a pastoral approach full of love, dialogue, and spiritual guidance. From Hauerwas’ perspective, cohabitation reflects the weakness of character formation and the church community as a moral habitat. Implicitly, the church needs to strengthen discipleship through liturgy, premarital counseling, and communities that support the growth of faithfulness. The novelty of this research lies in the use of Hauerwas’ character ethics to interpret the phenomenon of cohabitation contextually within local congregations.

Abstract

This study explores the perceptions and practices of personal testimony among adolescents and young adults in GMIM Getsemani Perum Risky with regard to their congregational life practices. Using a qualitative participatory ethnographic design, data were gathered from 20 members through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of congregational documents. The evidence indicates that personal testimony is an essential, not marginal, practice since whoever is to express, interpret, and communicate faith. Testimonies come mostly from a feeling of gratitude at how God has helped them and an inner sense of calling and encouragement from leaders and peers, but they are also accompanied by anxiety, feelings of unworthiness, and fear of being judged. As a matter of fact, empirically, testimony is a kind of lived narrative theology: through telling detailed accounts of the struggle, divine assistance and change, participants re-read their histories of life through the lens of the gospel and combine the teaching of theology with the experience. The act of testifying brings about emotional and spiritual change, while listening to the testimonies of others brings about mutual edification, consolation, and hope. The study further shows that the practice of testifying in this congregation is influenced by the dialogue between GMIM's Reformed heritage and Minahasan cultural values such as mapalus, honesty, and solidarity, which together foster authenticity, openness, and communal responsibility.

Abstract

This study examines how the Christian book, the Buku Renungan Harian Keluarga (RHK), influenced the formation of faith among the members of GMIM Baitel Eris in the Tandengan District. Set in the context of the overall discussion on Protestant spiritual formation and family worship, the study deals with the current application of RHK in home worship, its perception by congregants, and its contribution to spiritual development and family life. Data were collected using a qualitative case study design, where semi-structured interviews with adult congregants, parents, youth, Sunday school teachers, column leaders, and office-bearers of the church were used, supplemented by participatory observations during family and sectoral worship venues and document analysis of RHK editions and church records. Thematic data analysis was conducted in accordance with the steps of data analysis presented by Braun and Clarke. The results indicate that RHK is more strongly integrated into GMIM Baitel Eris' daily piety, and thus, it is a domestic liturgical script that reflects congregational worship. The devotional reflection part is the experience that is found to be the most valuable, as it connects Scripture and everyday life. According to the respondents, they experienced improved spiritual knowledge, increased intimacy with God, self-character development, and improved family relations. The first barrier to regular use was busyness, and the digital formats and proposed interactive features are hints of what needs to be changed in the future. The paper concludes that Christian books continue to play a crucial role in the formation of faith in local GMIM settings and makes pastoral suggestions to support and revitalise the practices of family-oriented devotion in the face of modern-day social and technological transformation.
