Abstract

Introduction: This research discusses the availability of groundwater in the Ngatabaru Village area. The use of groundwater, which tends to be more intensive and is not in accordance with its availability and utilization zone, ultimately has an impact on the local environment. Method: This study used the overlay method to determine the groundwater conditions in the study area. This method uses 7 parameters to determine the groundwater zone, namely lithology, hydrogeology, land cover, rainfall, slope, drainage density, and lineament density. Results and Discussion: This map produces 5 groundwater occurrence zones which show that 34.32% of the study site is an area with very low groundwater occurrence, then 37.19% is an area with low groundwater occurrence, 9.08% is an area with moderate groundwater occurrence, 12.91% is an area with high groundwater occurrence and 6.5% is an area with very high groundwater occurrence. Conclusion: Based on the analysis, Kelurahan Ngatabaru has low annual rainfall, ranging from 0 to 800 mm. The slope is steep in the east and slopes to the west, with forest land cover in the east and scrub and settlements in the west. Geologically, the area consists of schist, granite, and conglomerate lithologies, and has aquifers with high, low, and little productivity.

Abstract

Considering the geological complexity of Sulawesi and the limited exposure of students to basic geoscience knowledge in formal education, SMA Negeri 1 Sarjo, located in West Sulawesi and bordering Central Sulawesi, recognized the need to conduct a knowledge-sharing activity on earth science, geological resources, and geological hazards. This program invited academic experts from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Tadulako, to deliver educational materials tailored for high school students. The main objective was to enhance students’ understanding of geoscience concepts, introduce the diversity of geological resources, and increase awareness of geological hazards, particularly those prevalent in Sulawesi. The activity involved grade XII students through presentations, discussions, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. Students and teachers responded positively, indicating increased interest and comprehension of the topics presented. The positive feedback and appreciation expressed by the school, especially through the Vice Principal for Curriculum and Student Affairs, served as an indicator of the program’s success.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Avalanches on public infrastructure such as highways occur unpredictable due to unstable slopes due to degraded rock material. Avalanches can potentially cause and material losses. The research was conducted to classify the rock mass with the Geological Strength Index (GSI) method as a parameter for determining the slope safety factor on the road section of Lende Tovea Village, Sirenja District, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. To obtain the value of cohesion and angle of friction in the approach used Hoek & Brown collapse criteria. Determination of safety factor value using Spencer type method, using GeoStudio 2018 R2 software application. The slope on the road section of the research area is composed of igneous lithology in the form of rhyolite and diorite. Geological structures in the form of fracture and faults. The results showed that the slope of the road section in the northern part of Lende Tovea Village based on the Geological Strength Index (GSI) value in the range of 25-33 with the condition of the rock mass is in the category of very blockly, disturbed & poor and slicken with wedge avalanche type at observation stations 1-5. The results of the safety factors value at stations 1, 2, 4, and 5 are in a condition prone to landslides with values of 1.514; 1.482; 1.595; 1.408 respectively while at station 3 in a condition where landslides rarely occur with a value of 1.921.
