Abstract

This study investigates the geological diversity of the Tanjung Api region in Tojo Una-Una Regency, Central Sulawesi, with the aim of identifying potential sites for geotourism and geological heritage designation. Through field observations, lithological and geomorphological mapping, petrographic analysis, and structural interpretation, ten geological sites were inventoried. Among them, Gua Kehidupan and Tanjung Api were identified as fulfilling national criteria for geological heritage due to their exceptional features, including fossil-bearing caves, sinkholes, and active gas seeps related to tectonic brecciation. The remaining sites exhibit significant geotourism value, particularly in coastal, volcanic, and sedimentary contexts. Findings from this study highlight the relevance of geodiversity in supporting sustainable tourism and geoconservation. By integrating geological features with educational and community-based values, Tanjung Api demonstrates strong potential to be developed into a geotourism destination that balances scientific significance, cultural relevance, and ecological preservation. The inventory and qualitative assessment serve as a reference for future geoheritage planning and site management. The study recommends involving local stakeholders in the promotion and conservation of these sites to ensure long-term sustainability and community benefits.

Abstract

West Sulawesi has a very connections with the tectonic process of the Makassar Strait, where the Makassar Strait is influenced by the process of plate expansion, as a result of the process formed a sedimentary basin composed of sedimentary rocks with rocks of diverse origin, the determination of rock origin (provenance) can help to reveal the tectonic setting and rock origin in the, to see the mineral content of existing sandstone constituents in the research area microscopically, the parameters used in determining the origin of rocks are quartz, feldspar and lithic fragments, the calculation of rock constituent minerals using the point counting method and then normalized for plotting on the provenance diagram and tectonic setting. The results of petrographic analysis on sandstone obtained the name of the Rock is lithic graywacke and quartz wacke. Rocks of origin in the research area are from Plutonic igneous rocks, volcanic igneous rocks, metamorphic rocks and sedimentary rocks, which are known based on the presence of monocrystalline quartz and polycstaline Quartz minerals, orthoclase minerals, sanidine minerals, volcanic lithic and sedimentary lithic,while the tectonic setting in the research area is magmatic arc and recycle orogen.

Abstract

Perubahan garis pantai merupakan fenomena dinamis yang dipengaruhi oleh interaksi faktor oseanografi dan aktivitas manusia, sehingga perlu dipantau secara berkelanjutan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dinamika perubahan garis pantai di Pantai Lampia, Kabupaten Luwu Timur, dengan memanfaatkan citra Google Earth multitemporal. Data yang digunakan meliputi citra tahun 2016, 2019, dan 2023 yang didigitasi secara on-screen, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan komparatif per transek. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa periode 2016–2019 ditandai dengan abrasi signifikan pada titik sampel TS1 (−14,82 m) dan TS6 (−14,46 m), sementara beberapa segmen lain mengalami akresi hingga +7,35 m. Pada periode 2019–2023, pola perubahan cenderung lebih moderat dengan amplitudo antara −5,02 m hingga +6,90 m. Zona abrasi yang sebelumnya berada pada bagian timur (TS1, TS6, TS7) bergeser ke segmen barat–tengah (TS9–TS12), sedangkan area yang sebelumnya mengalami abrasi justru mengalami akresi. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah garis pantai Lampia bersifat sangat dinamis dengan adanya pergeseran zona abrasi–akresi antarperiode. Pola tersebut menunjukkan adanya redistribusi sedimen yang dipengaruhi kombinasi faktor gelombang, arus sejajar pantai, pasang surut, serta aktivitas antropogenik. Pemanfaatan citra Google Earth terbukti efektif sebagai alternatif pemantauan garis pantai yang murah, praktis, dan aplikatif untuk mendukung pengelolaan wilayah pesisir.

Abstract

Batugamping disebut juga batukapur atau limestone merupakan batuan sedimen dengan kandungan mineral kalsium karbonat (kalsit) CaCO3 sebesar 90%, dolomit 3% dan sisanya adalah mineral clay. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik mineral batugamping berdasarkan analisis petrografi dan mengetahui komposisi mineral batugamping berdasarkan analisis XRD serta mengetahui lingkungan pengendapan mineral batugamping. Metodologi penelitian didasari dengan melakukan pengujian berupa analisis XRD dengan menembakkan sinar X pada sampel untuk mengetahui komposisi mineral dan analisis petrografi menggunakan alat mikroskop menyinari berkas cahaya atau elektron pada sampel batuan pada suatu jalur optik untuk mengetahui mineral penyusun pada batuan. Berdasarkan analisis petrografi, pada sampel 1 menunjukan mineral kalsit, grain, opak, dan mud. dengan nama batuan packstone. pada sampel 2 menunjukan mineral kalsit, grain, opak, mud. dengan nama batuan wackstone. pada sampel 3 menunjukan mineral kalsit, grain, opak, mud. dengan nama batuan wackstone. pada sampel 4 yang menunjukan mineral kalsit, grain, mud. dengan nama batuan tersebut packstone. Komposisi mineral berdasarkan analisis XRD pada sampel 1 menunjukkan kandungan kalsit (CaCO3) sebesar 100%. Hasil analisis XRD pada sampel 2 menunjukkan kandungan kalsit (CaCO3) sebesar 100%. Hasil analisis XRD pada sampel 3 menunjukkan kandungan kalsit (CaCO3) sebesar 94,6% dan kandungan dolomite (CaMg(CO3)) sebesar 5,4%. Hasil analisis XRD pada sampel 4 menunjukkan kandungan kalsit (CaCO3) sebesar 100%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik mineral batugamping di Desa Binuang, Kecamatan Balusu, Kabupaten Pangkep, Sulawesi Selatan. Metode penelitian meliputi pengambilan sampel lapangan dan analisis laboratorium yang terdiri dari analisis petrografi dan difraksi sinar-X (XRD). Dari 13 sampel yang diambil, hanya 4 sampel yang dianalisis lebih lanjut. Hasil analisis petrografi menunjukkan bahwa semua sampel didominasi oleh mineral kalsit dengan tekstur packstone menurut klasifikasi Dunham, ukuran kristal 0,04–0,15 mm, bentuk butir anhedral, serta porositas rendah. Analisis XRD memperkuat temuan tersebut dengan menunjukkan bahwa seluruh sampel tersusun 100% oleh kalsit (CaCO₃) tanpa adanya mineral pengotor yang signifikan. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, batugamping di lokasi penelitian diinterpretasikan terbentuk pada lingkungan laut dangkal berenergi rendah–sedang, serta memiliki potensi besar sebagai bahan baku industri, khususnya semen dan kapur, karena kemurnian kalsit yang tinggi.

Abstract

Considering the geological complexity of Sulawesi and the limited exposure of students to basic geoscience knowledge in formal education, SMA Negeri 1 Sarjo, located in West Sulawesi and bordering Central Sulawesi, recognized the need to conduct a knowledge-sharing activity on earth science, geological resources, and geological hazards. This program invited academic experts from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Tadulako, to deliver educational materials tailored for high school students. The main objective was to enhance students’ understanding of geoscience concepts, introduce the diversity of geological resources, and increase awareness of geological hazards, particularly those prevalent in Sulawesi. The activity involved grade XII students through presentations, discussions, and interactive question-and-answer sessions. Students and teachers responded positively, indicating increased interest and comprehension of the topics presented. The positive feedback and appreciation expressed by the school, especially through the Vice Principal for Curriculum and Student Affairs, served as an indicator of the program’s success.

Abstract

This study investigates the improvement of soil bearing capacity through the application of soil–cement stabilization on Jagebob Road using the Unconfined Compression Test (UCT). The research aims to evaluate how curing duration affects the compressive strength development of soil cement mixtures. Laboratory experiments were conducted on cohesive soil samples with curing periods of 0, 3, and 7 days to observe the changes in both physical and mechanical properties. The results show that at 0 days of curing, the compressive strength remained low (0.103–0.114 kg/cm²) due to incomplete hydration. After 3 days, a significant increase in strength was observed, reaching up to 0.295–0.305 kg/cm², indicating the beginning of cement hydration and improved particle bonding. At 7 days, the soil achieved even higher compressive strength as the hydration process produced more calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) and calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂), which enhanced the density and bonding of the soil matrix. These findings confirm that the curing period plays a crucial role in strengthening soil cement. Therefore, a curing duration of at least seven days is recommended to achieve optimal mechanical performance and ensure improved bearing capacity of stabilized soils for road infrastructure such as Jagebob Road.

Abstract

The socialization program on the Tanjung Api Geotrek Route was carried out to enhance the understanding, awareness, and capacity of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) of Labuan Village in managing geotourism potential based on local geological heritage. The Tanjung Api area in Tojo Una-Una Regency, Central Sulawesi, is known for its natural fire phenomenon caused by the release of flammable natural gas, giving the site unique scientific, educational, and tourism value. Using a participatory approach, the program included material presentations, interactive discussions, the introduction of geotrek route design, and field observations at several potential geosites. The results show that participants’ knowledge increased by 80–90% regarding geotourism concepts, geological resource conservation, and strategies for developing interpretive educational geotreks. Participants also demonstrated strong enthusiasm to engage in destination management and benefit from the economic opportunities offered by tourism activities. This program serves as an initial step in strengthening collaboration between the community, academia, and local government to support sustainable geotourism development. The socialization provides a foundation for achieving independent, well-directed, community-based management of the Tanjung Api geosite as part of broader geotourism development in Tojo Una-Una Regency.
