Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has a high level of disaster risk. Community preparedness efforts, especially for children, are still lacking, marked by the number of victims of natural disasters which is still very high, with this effort increasing knowledge about disaster mitigation is still very important for the community. This service aims to increase public knowledge, especially students, about disaster mitigation efforts, through outreach activities in several schools. The results of the service show that the level of student knowledge about disaster mitigation is still very lacking and needs to be improved. It is hoped that further actions such as maintenance and supervision as control with the aim of these activities have optimal results to increase students' knowledge about disaster mitigation and the realization of disaster resilient schools.

Abstract

Landslide disasters frequently occur in the Nupabomba area due to its steep slopes and its role as a primary access road for the local community. This study aims to analyze slope stability using the Rock Mass Rating (RMR) and Slope Mass Rating (SMR) methods to assess the potential for landslides. The research was conducted at coordinates (Universal Transverse Mercator) UTM 829117.90 – 831853.89 mE and 9920980.82 – 9920308.34 mS. Data collection involved field measurements using the scanline method, focusing on discontinuities, lithology, and rock strength. The results indicate that at Station 01, the slope consists of slate rock with an RQD value of 70% and UCS of 23 MPa. The calculated RMR value is 58, placing it into Class III (fair rock), with an SMR value of 55.4, indicating partially stable conditions. Meanwhile, at Station 02, the slope consists of phyllite rock with an RQD value of 70% and UCS of 52 MPa. The RMR value is 62, classifying it as Class II (good rock), and the SMR value is 61.6, indicating a stable condition. These findings provide crucial insights into the geotechnical characteristics of the area, which are essential for landslide risk mitigation and infrastructure planning. The study highlights the need for continuous monitoring and possible reinforcement strategies, particularly in areas categorized as partially stable. Further research incorporating geotechnical modeling and additional stability analysis is recommended to enhance slope stability predictions and inform mitigation strategies.

Abstract

Abstract

Indonesia is highly vulnerable to geological disasters, especially earthquakes and secondary hazards, due to its location at tectonic plate boundaries and active faults. However, junior high school students’ understanding of earth science and disaster mitigation remains low. This community service project aimed to enhance disaster literacy through interactive socialization at SMP Negeri 19 Palu (high-risk earthquake area). Methods included lectures, group discussions, educational videos, and disaster response simulations, focusing on earth science fundamentals (earth structure, rocks, geological processes) and mitigation measures for earthquakes, tsunamis, and liquefaction. Participants were Grade VIII students, selected for their potential as agents of change. Results demonstrated increased disaster awareness, mitigation knowledge, and interest in earth science. The activity fostered early disaster preparedness culture and established university-school partnerships, supporting education-based disaster risk reduction programs. Positive feedback from students and the school confirmed the effectiveness of the communicative approach.

Abstract

Abstract

The largest village in Buntulia District is Hulawa Village with an area of 39,512.21 km2 or around 90.95 percent of the total area of the sub-district. Hulawa Village has a rich and diverse history. Historically, the development of Hulawa Village was also influenced by the political and social dynamics in Gorontalo. The purpose of the environmental service activities carried out by KKN MBKM is to explain the implementation of the KKN community service program in Hulawa Village. The service program in question includes two environmental care programs, namely the clean Friday program and community service. To achieve these goals in implementing their activities, students use three stages of implementation procedures consisting of the preparation stage, the implementation stage and the final stage, namely finishing. The results of the implementation of the service from the two environmental care programs in Hulawa Village ran smoothly and successfully with 100% achievement because community involvement was very large. Both programs that were implemented directly provided environmental cleanliness benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze slope stability in Walenrang District, Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, using the Rock Mass Rating (RMR) method. The research area lies along the Walenrang–Toraja main route, which is composed of volcanic and sedimentary rocks affected by an intensive joint system. Field investigations were conducted using the scanline method to obtain geotechnical parameters such as unconfined compressive strength (UCS), Rock Quality Designation (RQD), discontinuity spacing and condition, and groundwater condition. Based on Schmidt Hammer test results, the rock’s compressive strength was 64 MPa with an RQD value of 97%, indicating excellent rock quality. The weighting of six key parameters produced an RMR value of 69, classifying the rock mass as Class II (good rock). This finding indicates that the slopes at the research location are still in good condition.
