Abstract

General Background: Integrated Islamic Elementary Schools (SDIT) aim to develop students' religious understanding and character in line with contemporary educational demands. Specific Background: However, the application of curriculum innovation in Islamic subjects—Fiqih, Aqidah, and Tajweed—remains underexplored at the upper-class level. Knowledge Gap: There is limited empirical research on how thematic-integrative approaches are implemented and their impact on student learning outcomes in this context.Aims: This study investigates the implementation of curriculum innovation in Fiqih, Aqidah, and Tajweed learning at SDIT Hidayatul Mubtadiin, Mojokerto Regency. Results: Findings reveal that Fiqih is taught through practical and social projects, Aqidah through reflective-dialogical methods, and Tajweed through digital media and peer teaching. Novelty: The integration of Islamic values into globally and locally relevant themes using a thematical-integrative model enhances contextual religious understanding. Implications: This innovation increases student engagement, comprehension, and character development but faces challenges such as limited digital infrastructure and teacher readiness. The study recommends ongoing teacher training, technology enhancement, and curriculum flexibility to support sustainable innovation in Islamic basic education. Highlights: Thematical-integrative models enhance contextual religious learning. Digital tools and peer teaching boost Tajweed mastery. Innovation faces tech and coordination challenges. Keywords: Curriculum Innovation, Fiqih, Aqidah, Tajweed, Integrated Islamic Education

Abstract

This study reinterprets Ali Asghar Engineer’s liberation theology as a normative foundation for integrating justice, freedom, and equality into Indonesia’s multicultural religious-education policy across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. Motivated by persistent deficits in conventional religious curricula characterized by rote learning, doctrinal literalism, and weak responsiveness to social pluralism. The research employs a qualitative literature review combining systematic database searches with content analysis and critical discourse analysis of scholarship, policy documents, and curriculum materials. Findings indicate that grounding curricula in liberationist values can reorient religious education from transmissive instruction toward emancipatory pedagogy that cultivates critical consciousness, civic agency, and intercultural competence. Implementation, however, is constrained by three interrelated barriers: structural (centralized curriculum regimes and assessment systems), cultural-ideological (conservative resistance and contestation over interpretive authority), and practical (limited teacher capacity, resources, and contextually relevant materials). The paper advances pragmatic strategies for curriculum decentralization, redesigned authentic assessment, sustained in-service teacher development, contextualized teaching modules, and deliberative engagement with religious stakeholders, coupled with pilot implementation and rigorous monitoring to ensure fidelity and scalability. By articulating a context-sensitive operationalization of the Engineer’s theology for curriculum reform, the study contributes theoretically and practically to debates on Islamic education reform and multicultural pedagogy, offering policymakers and educators an evidence-informed pathway to make religious education more just, inclusive, and transformative.

The advancement of technology and globalization has significantly influenced behavioral changes, marked by a decline in ethical and moral values. In Islam, moral education holds a highly important position, as reflected in the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Prophet's hadiths contain fundamental principles for shaping a child's character from an early age, which remain relevant in addressing today's moral challenges and crises.  This research examines the Prophet's hadiths on moral education for children as a solution to the youth's moral crisis. The primary objectives of this study are to analyze the Prophet's hadiths related to moral education for children, particularly within the family environment, explore the methods taught by the Prophet (PBUH) in shaping a child's character, and investigate their implementation in the context of modern education.  The method used in this research is qualitative with a literature review approach (library research), gathering data from various sources such as books, journals, articles, and other scholarly works. The analysis employs a descriptive-analytical approach, involving the identification, classification, and interpretation of relevant hadiths.  The findings reveal that the most crucial moral education for children originates from the family environment. Parents play a vital role in shaping a child's morals by instilling good habits and noble values that will later become part of the child's personality. Additionally, moral education in Islam emphasizes the importance of role modeling, early childhood education, and the involvement of various parties, including teachers and society, in building a child's character with noble morals.Kata Kunci: Hadith, Moral Crisis, Moral Education, Youth.
