Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of juvenile delinquency and the contributing factors among adolescents living on Jalan Taduan, Sidorejo Village, Medan Tembung District, Deli Serdang Regency. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving five adolescents who were directly engaged in various types of delinquent behavior such as smoking, drug abuse, involvement in street fighting, alcohol consumption, and online gambling. Data were collected through field observations and in-depth interviews. The findings indicate that peer influence is the most dominant factor contributing to juvenile delinquency, further reinforced by weak parental supervision, a permissive social environment, curiosity, and easy access to sources of delinquent behavior. The study concludes that strengthening the roles of families, schools, and communities is essential to prevent and reduce the prevalence of juvenile delinquency in the area.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of adult education-based training in strengthening the understanding of Rakut Sitelu values among members of the Karo Student Association (IMKA) at Medan State University. The study employed a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design. The qualitative phase was conducted through observations and interviews with four informants selected using purposive sampling to identify participants’ learning needs. The quantitative phase involved administering pre-tests and post-tests to ten training participants. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using percentages and gain scores, while qualitative data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the average pre-test score of 10.0% increased to 86.25% in the post-test, resulting in a gain score of 76.25 points. Improvements were observed across indicators of Rakut Sitelu understanding, application of social values, learning experiences, and cultural relevance. These findings indicate that the andragogical approach, which emphasizes active participation, experiential learning, discussion, and reflection, supports more meaningful cultural learning. The novelty of this study lies in the application of local culture-based adult education as a strategy for strengthening Rakut Sitelu values among university students. This research contributes to the development of adult education studies and offers an alternative approach to preserving local cultural values among younger generations.
