Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and strategies of integrating the values of Islam Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin (Islam as a mercy for all creation) in the learning process at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Islam Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin emphasizes the principles of compassion, justice, tolerance, and balance in life. In the context of Islamic education, these values are essential to be internalized so that students not only gain knowledge but also develop noble character and a moderate attitude in practicing their faith. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through classroom observation, teacher interviews, and document analysis. The results indicate that the integration of Rahmatan lil ‘Alamin values is implemented through: (1) thematic learning that links lesson content with universal Islamic values; (2) teachers’ exemplary attitudes and behavior; and (3) habituation of good morals through religious activities in the madrasah. The implications of this study highlight that Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping a generation that is knowledgeable, moderate, and possesses commendable character.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of ikhlas (sincerity) in the Qur’an through a thematic-comparative analysis of QS. Az-Zumar (39):3 and QS. Al-Ikhlas (112):4, drawing on classical Qur’anic exegesis, particularly that of Ibn Kathir, with supporting references to Ath-?abari and Al-Qur?ubi. The study aims to analyze ikhlas as a fundamental principle of tauhid that encompasses both the practical dimension of religious action (fi‘liyyah) and the doctrinal dimension of belief (i‘tiq?diyyah), and to clarify their integrative relationship within Islamic spirituality. Employing a qualitative library-based research design, this study applies thematic and comparative tafsir analysis to explore the theological meanings of the selected verses. The findings indicate that QS. Az-Zumar (39):3 emphasizes ikhlas as the purification of worship from intermediaries and non-divine orientations, while QS. Al-Ikhlas (112):4 affirms the absolute oneness and incomparability of God as the theological foundation of sincere faith. Together, these verses construct a comprehensive understanding of ikhlas that remains relevant for addressing contemporary religious challenges, including digital ostentation, the cult of religious figures, and the transactionalization of worship. This study concludes that ikhlas is not merely an inner disposition of intention, but a direct manifestation of pure monotheism in both belief and religious practice. Keywords: Ikhlas; Tauhid; Thematic Tafsir; QS. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren Syafa’atut Thulab in enhancing students’ sense of citizenship and social awareness within Indonesia’s multicultural society. The research is grounded in the belief that Islamic education serves not only as a medium for religious formation but also as a means of developing national and social character. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the implementation of Islamic education at the madrasah integrates both the national and religious curricula, supported by daily habituation of akhlaq al-karimah (noble character) among students. Islamic education significantly contributes to shaping students’ civic awareness, such as patriotism, responsibility, and concern for the surrounding community. Moreover, social activities such as community service, environmental cleanups, and outreach programs strengthen students’ social character. The main supporting factors include the religious environment of the pesantren, teachers’ exemplary attitudes, and the madrasah’s integrated programs, while the inhibiting factors include limited facilities and external cultural influences. This research concludes that Islamic education plays a vital role in cultivating a generation that is religiously devout, nationally conscious, and socially responsible.
