Abstract

This study discusses the revolution of Arabic language learning in the digital era, focusing on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing language competence while fostering spiritual intelligence. Using a library research method, this study reviews recent literature (2020–2023) on the application of AI in language learning and Islamic education. The findings reveal that AI provides adaptive, interactive, and data-driven learning that strengthens the four core Arabic language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), including specific aspects such as nahwu, sharaf, and phonetics. Furthermore, AI has the potential to support the integration of Islamic values through features such as prayer reminders, Qur’anic verses, and the internalization of learning ethics. This research highlights that AI should not be regarded merely as a technical tool but as a medium of technological spiritualization that combines intellectual competence with the cultivation of Islamic character and morality. The contribution of this article is to provide an integrative perspective on how AI can be utilized not only to strengthen Arabic linguistic competence but also as a medium for fostering Islamic spirituality within the context of education.

Abstract

Arabic as a foreign language has high complexity, especially in writing skills, so it requires innovative learning strategies. Collaborative Picture Sequencing based on images and cooperation, with Vygotsky's theory, is effective in improving writing skills, motivation, and cooperation, although it requires attention to member dominance and time. Based on this context, this study aims to understand the dynamics of Collaborative Picture Sequencing in Arabic language writing learning, especially through the integration of Vygotsky's collaboration theory, so that the strategy can be implemented effectively according to students' learning needs. This study uses a descriptive-analytical qualitative method, with data from observations, interviews, and documentation of writing results before and after the implementation of the strategy. The results of the study show four main findings: [1] Ease of Expressing Ideas through Sequential Images. [2] Dynamics of Collaboration in Language Exchange, [3] Scaffolding in the Zone of Proximal Development, [4] Improving the Quality of Written Products. By understanding these dynamics, teachers are expected to be able to design more effective and contextual writing learning, increase students' motivation and writing skills, as well as become a reference for developing collaboration-based materials so that each student develops according to their potential.

Abstract

This study examines syntax (nahwu) from the perspective of theoretical Arabic linguistics by positioning grammar not merely as a set of normative rules, but also as a scientific framework that explains the interrelation between form and meaning. The purpose of this research is to describe the concept of syntax in the classical Arabic tradition and to explore its relevance to modern linguistic theories. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach based on library research. Data were collected from national and international scholarly journal articles published between 2020 and 2025. The analysis was carried out through reduction, categorization, and interpretation to identify patterns of integration between classical syntax and modern linguistic approaches. The findings reveal that Arabic syntax is not only normative-prescriptive, but also possesses theoretical dimensions that can be integrated with modern linguistics, such as structuralism, generative grammar, and functionalism. Nahwu is shown to serve as a bridge between morphological and semantic aspects while functioning as an essential foundation in teaching, translation, and modern linguistic technologies, including natural language processing. Moreover, the dynamics of Arabic dialectal variation demonstrate the need for a more adaptive syntactic theory that responds to contemporary linguistic realities. Thus, this study affirms that Arabic syntax is a dynamic, adaptive, and relevant system, serving both to preserve the classical heritage and to address academic as well as practical needs in the modern era. Keywords: Arabic Language, Modern Linguistics, Theoretical Linguistics, Syntax.

Abstract

Arabic language learning has been dominated by traditional methods that emphasize memorization and analysis of classical texts, thus not supporting the development of 21st-century skills. This study aims to formulate an Arabic language learning model based on a multidisciplinary approach that integrates STEM, Islamic values, and local culture to create applicable, contextual, and meaningful learning experiences. The research method is a library research with a critical-analytical approach to the latest national and international literature, particularly those discussing STEM pedagogy, language learning, Islamic values-based education, and the local cultural context. The results of the study indicate that STEM integration allows Arabic to be used as a medium for exploration, discussion, and project production, while Islamic values such as amanah (trust), adab, ta'āwun (respect), and ṣidq (compassion) serve as ethical guidelines in every activity. Local culture serves as a living and relevant context, strengthening motivation and meaning in learning. The proposed operational model emphasizes identification of real problems, linguistic exploration, cross-disciplinary integration, work production, and reflection and evaluation, in accordance with Vygotsky's principles of social constructivism. The contribution of this research is to present a holistic pedagogical framework that combines cognitive, affective, spiritual, and contextual aspects, so that Arabic language learning not only builds language competence, but also Islamic character, cultural awareness, and 21st-century skills that are relevant to global challenges.

Abstract

Arabic linguistics is a core course in Arabic Language and Arabic Language Education programs at higher education institutions, and despite its crucial role as a theoretical foundation for linguistic studies, it is often perceived by students as abstract, complex, and highly demanding in terms of analytical skills. This study aims to identify and analyze the academic challenges faced by undergraduate and postgraduate students in learning Arabic linguistics at Islamic higher education institutions. Employing a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design, the study involved the distribution of Likert-scale questionnaires to 120 students and semi-structured interviews with selected informants at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The findings indicate that students’ academic challenges encompass cognitive, linguistic, and pedagogical aspects, with cognitive challenges emerging as the dominant factor, particularly in relation to difficulties in understanding abstract linguistic concepts and the high cognitive load involved. Linguistic challenges are associated with the complexity of terminology and the morphosyntactic structure of the Arabic language, while pedagogical challenges relate to instructional approaches that remain predominantly theoretical and lecturer-centered. The study also reveals differences in the characteristics of challenges between undergraduate and postgraduate students in terms of both difficulty levels and the linguistic areas perceived as most challenging, leading to the recommendation that Arabic linguistics instruction in higher education be developed in a more contextualized, analytical, and tiered manner.
