Abstract

Abstrak Artikel ini akan membahas tentang pertentangan makna dan gagasan yang menyatakan bahwa pengertian antonimi telah direvisi. Pertentangan makna akan dibahas dalam dua perspektif, yaitu linguistic modern dan linguistik Arab. Menurut linguistic modern, pertentangan makna terjadi ketika dua kata atau lebih bertentangan dalam maknanya. Dalam sudut pandang ini, pertentangan makna dianggap sebagai dua bentuk yang saling bertentangan dalam maknanya. Maka munculah istlah antonym, komplementari, direksional, dan kontrari. Sementara itu, menurut linguistic arab, pertentangan makna dianggap sebagai satu bentuk kata yang memiliki pertentangan dalam maknanya. Fenomena inilah yang disebut dengan kontranimi (contranymy).---Abstract This article deals with oppositeness of meaning and the notion of antonymy is revised. The oppositeness of meaning is discussed further in two perspectives, i.e. modern linguistics and Arabic linguistics. According to modern linguistics, oppositeness of meaning is when two words or more contrary in meaning. In this view, oppositeness of meaning is assumed as two forms that opposite in their meaning. There are such as antonymy, complementary, directional, and contrary. Meanwhile, according to Arabic linguistics tradition, oppositeness of meaning is assumed one form that has contrary in meaning. This phenomenon is what so called contranymy.

Abstract

Joining student organizational activities is positively impacts both extrinsically and intrinsically, such as developing leadership or good speaking skills. Several studies have been conducted to examine the role of student organizations in increasing their confidence when speaking. However, many of these studies rely only on general self-confidence but not in the context of classroom learning. The purpose of this study was to analyze students' speaking confidence in class and the correlation between students' organizational experience and their speaking confidence. This type of research is quantitative research. The population in this study found 35 students. The instrument used in this research is a questionnaire. The technique used to analyze the data is the Pearson Product Moment Correlation to determine the relationship between the independent variable (organizational experience) and the determinant variable (self-confidence). The results of this study indicate that the significance level (0.001) and Pearson correlation = 0.569 (sig = 0.01). This shows a significant relationship between the organization and a high level of self-confidence in class. It can be said that the organizational experience of students can increase their sense of self-confidence.

Abstract

News on online media portals has advantages over conventional media in constructing realityand influencing readers. This study aims to analyze the coverage of the case of Afghanistanunder the new Taliban government on BBC Arabic online media with a critical discourseanalysis approach. Furthermore, this article attempts to reveal the elements of the textstructure, analysis of social cognition, and social analysis of the news discourse. This studyuses a descriptive qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis approach of Van Dijk'smodel. The results of this study indicate that the news on BBC Arabic about the collection ofbillions of dollars by the United Nations for humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan, in theview of Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model can be divided into three levels, namely:first, analysis of text structure (context), in In the structure of this text, there are differences inthe meaning of the news titles raised by BBC Arabic. Second, analysis of social cognition, bylooking at the schemes that play a role in reporting on BBC Arabic, namely the event schemeand the person scheme. Third, analysis of social context, which explores two elements foundin the text, namely the practice of power and access to influence discourse.

Abstract

The emergence of new vocabulary related to public health is very important for the public toknow, especially the new vocabulary about the Covid-19 pandemic in Arabic. This studyaims to promote Arabic vocabulary - based teaching materials related to public health withthe aim of introducing Arabic learners to new vocabulary . This study uses a descriptivequalitative approach based on library research by using the steps of preparing teachingmaterials using the Dick and Carey model. The data for this research is sourced from theonline electronic media of the BBC Arabic, using vocabulary adaptation techniques tocompile Arabic teaching materials. The results of this study confirm that in the preparation ofArabic teaching materials, the four basic principles of foreign language learning approach areused. Based on the research that has been carried out, it was found that there are a number ofnew vocabulary related to the Covid-19 pandemic in Arabic. Furthermore, the adaptation ofthe development of new Arabic vocabulary teaching materials is arranged according to theprinciples and concepts of language learning, so that in the implementation and teaching ofnew vocabulary students are expected to achieve maximum results.

Abstract

This study reveals the use of language in the linguistic landscape phenomenon in the form oflanguage signs that exist in the pesantren environment. The purpose of this study was todetermine the use of language in public spaces in the pesantren environment. Furthermore,this research was conducted to find out what languages are used in language signs in thepesantren environment so that the function of language in the pesantren environment can beknown. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. Data collectiontechniques were carried out by direct observation and documentation. The results of thisstudy indicate that there are four languages used in language signs in the pesantrenenvironment. In addition, the use of language on language signs in the pesantren environmentfunctions as signboard markers, warning signs, and information signs.

Abstract

Nowadays, pre-service teachers must collect teaching experiences as many as possible. The experiences will improve their self-confidence when they teach in the class. Self-confidence can make the students feel enjoy and comfort in the classroom. To get a lot of experience before to be a teacher, pre-service teachers can be volunteers to do service learning. Service learning can implement the pre-service knowledge when they got some supporting courses to help their when they teach in the class. The pre-service teachers do the service learning to be preparation for the future time because they will face in the real community. Basically, a good teacher must have high self-confidence, mastering in the material, and can make the students feel enjoy. In addition, the service learning can be as the reflection for the pre-service teacher. In fact, the service learning has so many benefit impacts for the pre-service teacher, the school, teacher, and the students. Abstract

This study investigates university students’ strategies in pre-writing activity, what students usually do to explore their idea before writing an academic paper. The participants of this study were students of writing class majoring English Education Department at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. An exploratory mixed methods design was employed by interviewing students in writing class about the strategy they used before writing and administering questionnaire respondents. The findings showed that students used several strategies to enrich the idea before writing, most students used draft on the essay, and the draft was used to collect the idea so that they could arrange their writing into a good structure. This implies the need for future research to investigate more about the strategy they use not only in pre-writing but also the used strategy to solve their problem in a writing activity.

Abstract

The learning of drama appreciation that has been carried out by the teacher needs to be reviewed. The use of traditional methods has an impact on blocking student activity and creativity. This study aims to improve students' reading skills and identify elements of drama through the discussion method. This research was conducted for approximately two months at SDN Kepohkidul I Kecamatan Kedungadem Kabupaten Bojonegoro. The research model used was CAR (class action research). The data obtained were processed quantitatively. The results obtained indicate that the students' ability to read and identify elements of drama increased. This increase can be seen from the results of the student's absorption rate in cycle I reached 42% and in cycle II increased to 94%. The mean score of student tests in the first cycle was 66.3 and in the second cycle increased to 75.6. Based on these results, it is concluded that learning through the discussion method can improve the ability to reading and identify elements of drama in grade VI SDN Kepohkidul I kecamatan Kedungadem kabupaten Bojonegoro.

Abstract

AbstractIndonesian learners of Arabic frequently encounter problems when learning Arabic language and its phonetics. The difficulties arise for there are differences between Arabic and Indonesian sound system. This article aimed to explore the learners’ difficulties in learning the Arabic sounds. Some learners of TPQ Al Muhajirin Sidayu Gresik were participated in this study. To conduct this research, the researcher used descriptive and contrastive approach and to collect the data by using a reading test of Arabic phonemes and interview were employed. This study revealed that the learners faced difficulties in pronouncing the Arabic consonants in which were influenced by their Indonesian language. To overcome those problems, the learners used the following strategies, i.e. pronouncing the same phonemes as in ح[ħ] and خ[x], pronouncing similar phonemes as in س  [s] and ش [ʃ], pronouncing phonemes by changing the phonemes in order to make it easier to utter as in ث [q] to س [s]. This study offers a recommendation for overcoming learners’ problems in pronouncing the Arabic sounds.Keywords: Arabic phonology, Arabic teaching, contrastive analysis, pronunciation.أشكالية النطق  الحروف العربية لدى طلبة مدرسة تربية القرآن: التحليل التقابلي بين اللغة العربية واللغة الإندونيسية في مستوى الفونيمكمال يوسف، سري إنداه أيو دمايانتيالجامعة الإسلامية الحكومية سونان أمبيلkamalinev@gmail.com, sriindahatudamayanti@gmail.comملخصإن المتعلمون الإندونيسيون يوجهوا المشاكل كثــيرا عند تعلم اللغة العربية و بالخصوص فى مجال علم الصوتيات (phonetics)، و تظهر الصعوبات لوجود الاختلافات بين نظام الصوت العربي و الإندونيسي. فيهدف هذه المقالة إلى استكشاف صعوبات و مشكلات المتعلمين فى تعلم الأصوات العربية، و اشتركت الطلبة من المدرسة لتعلم القرآن "المهجرين" سيدايو، جريسيك، إندونيسيا فى هذا البحث العلمي. لإجراء هذا البحث، استخدم الباحث المنهج الوصفىي التقابلي، و عقد الاختبار لقراءة الصوتيات العربية و المقابلة لأجل جمع البيانات. كشفت هذه الدراسة على أن المتعلمين الإندونيسين واجهوا الصعوبات فى نطق الحروف العربية المتأثرة باللغة الإندونيسية. استخدم المتعلمون هذه الاستراتيجيات للتغلب على الصعوبات، وهي نطق نفس الصوتيات كالصوت "ح" و "خ"، و نطق الأصوات المماثلة كالصوت "س" و "ش"، ونطق الأصوات عن طريق تغيــير الصوتيات فتكون أسهل فى النطق كالصوت "ث" تغيــيره بالصوت "س".  هذا البحث يقدم الاقتراحات والتوصيات فى التغلب على صعوبات لدي المتعلمين الإندونيسين فى تعلم الأصوات العربية ونطقها الصحيحة.الكلمات المفتاحية: علم الأصوات العربية، تعليم العربية، المنهج التقابلي، النطق

Abstract

This paper aimed to investigate to what extent the role play technique, especially semi-scripted could improve students’ speaking skill in English. This research was a descriptive qualitative in nature where was conducted at SMP Rahmat in Surabaya, East Java. Thirty students participated in this study and they have practiced a semi-scripted role play as one kind of role play techniques. There was pre-test and post-test applied, before and after the role play activities. The tests were done to measure students’ speaking skill. The results of this study showed that semi-scripted role play technique could significantly improve and affect properly the speaking ability of the students. Furthermore, by employing the semi-scripted role play, the students could freely express their feelings and make them able to explore their creativity in more ways to enable them facing the real life.
