Abstract

This study investigates how educational financing practices influence managerial accountability in Private Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PIHEI). Although financing and accountability have been widely discussed in higher education, limited research has explored how financing systems specifically shape accountability within PIHEI, particularly in relation to Islamic governance values. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the extent to which financing sources, allocation patterns, and evaluation mechanisms contribute to strengthening managerial accountability. A qualitative multi site case study was conducted across 30 PIHEI involving 123 informants. Data were collected through questionnaires and semi structured interviews, and analyzed using descriptive techniques and thematic analysis to identify patterns in financing practices and accountability processes. The findings indicate that, first, PIHEI remains highly dependent on student tuition fees, while access to government and community funding is limited due to administrative barriers and accreditation requirements. Second, budget allocation is concentrated on basic operational needs, with insufficient support for research, community service, and institutional development. Third, financing evaluations related to adequacy, efficiency, equity, and cost effectiveness are not consistently implemented, weakening accountability mechanisms. These findings highlight the need for financing diversification, improved reporting systems, and stronger alignment with Islamic governance principles. The study concludes by recommending performance-based funding support and institutional capacity building to enhance financial sustainability and managerial accountability in PIHEI.

Abstract

English language proficiency, particularly writing skills, is increasingly crucial for academic and professional success. However, EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners, especially in non-English speaking countries like Indonesia, face significant challenges. This study investigated the relationship between writing self-efficacy and writing motivation among EFL learners within the unique context of an Indonesian Islamic university, a setting where the influence of Islamic values and local culture on these constructs remains under-explored. The aim was to determine the strength and direction of the relationship between self-efficacy and motivation in EFL writing among this specific population. A quantitative, correlational design was employed, using questionnaires based on Bandura’s (1997) social cognitive theory and Ryan and Deci’s (2000) self-determination theory. Participants were 48 fourth-semester English Education students at UIN Raden Intan Lampung, selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via Google Forms and analyzed using R Studio, including descriptive statistics, reliability analysis (Cronbach’s alpha), and Pearson’s correlation. The results revealed moderately high levels of both writing self-efficacy (M = 2.90, SD = 0.25) and writing motivation (M = 2.90, SD = 0.22). A statistically significant positive correlation was found between writing self-efficacy and writing motivation, r(46) = 0.49, p < .001, indicating a medium effect size. This finding suggests that students with higher confidence in their writing abilities also tended to be more motivated to engage in English writing tasks. The study contributes to understanding the dynamics of EFL writing in a specific cultural and religious context, highlighting the importance of fostering both self-efficacy and motivation in EFL instruction within Indonesian Islamic higher education, and has implications for curriculum developers.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the effectiveness of AI-integrated collaborative writing on writing fluency of EFL students in higher education. The method employed was quantitative with quasi- experimental design. There were 40 students divided into experimental and control groups. Technique of collecting data was writing tests before and after the treatment. The technique of analyzing data used paired sample t-tests and independent sample t-tests for determining writing ability and comparisons between groups. The results showed that both groups experienced improvements in writing ability, but the experimental group using AI integration showed a more significant improvement. These findings revealed that the use of AI, such as ChatGPT, QuillBot, Grammarly, and DeepL, can act as a digital scaffold that helps students develop ideas, improve grammar, and increase writing fluency more effectively. Practically, this study provides evidence that AI integration in collaborative learning can improve quality and efficiency of writing learning process in higher education. The findings also suggest that combining technological tools with collaborative strategies creates a more supportive and interactive learning environment for EFL students. Therefore, AI-integrated collaborative writing can be considered an innovative pedagogical approach to enhance writing fluency in higher education contexts.

Abstract

The rapid integration of digital technology into daily life has significantly altered social behavior and moral norms, particularly among adolescents. This transformation has raised concerns about moral degradation within Muslim youth communities. This study investigates the relevance of Qur’anic character education in the family as a strategic response to these challenges. Employing a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes primary and secondary sources—including Qur’anic exegesis and contemporary Islamic educational literature. Selected verses—Surah Luqman [31]: 12–19, Surah Maryam [19]: 30–34, Surah Al-An’am [6]: 151–153, Surah Al-Isra’ [17]: 23–24, and Surah Al-Hujurat [49]: 11–12—highlight core ethical principles such as gratitude, honesty, humility, and social responsibility. The findings reveal that when these values are instilled through family-based education, they form a resilient ethical framework capable of mitigating the disruptive moral effects of digital media. Qur’anic moral teachings serve as a cultural bridge across generations, reinforcing ethical awareness and preserving religious identity. The study calls for renewed attention to intra-family Qur’anic education as a vital form of cultural resistance and moral resilience in the digital era

Abstract

Family communication in literary works often reflects hidden emotional conflict, denial, and psychological tension expressed through indirect language and implied meaning. Within literary pragmatics, discussions of Grice’s cooperative principle have mostly focused on films, advertisements, and educational discourse, while emotionally conflicted family dialogue in drama remains less explored, particularly in relation to both observance and non-observance of conversational maxims. This article examines how the characters in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night employ conversational strategies to maintain relationships, avoid confrontation, and express emotional suffering. The study is based on qualitative data collected from 21 selected dialogues in the drama script and analyzed interpretively using Grice’s cooperative principle as the main theoretical foundation. Cutting’s framework was used to elaborate the observance of Gricean maxims, while Nemesi’s classification was used to examine the forms of Gricean maxim non-observance. The findings reveal that the characters simultaneously observe and fail to observe conversational maxims in emotionally tense interactions. Observance of maxims is mainly used to maintain conversational continuity and emotional connection, while non-observance, particularly violation and exploitation, functions as a strategy for denial, sarcasm, emotional defense, and concealment of painful realities. These findings demonstrate that pragmatic strategies in dramatic dialogue closely reflect fractured family relationships and unresolved psychological trauma.
