Abstract

The integration of technology-based learning media with local cultural contexts remains limited in physics education, particularly in teaching abstract concepts such as matter state changes. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an electronic flipbook integrated with local cultural potential and to assess student responses toward its use in physics learning. This research employed a research and development (RD) approach using the 4-D model (define, design, develop, and disseminate), limited to the development stage without classroom implementation. The validation process involved eight expert validators, while student responses were collected from 15 junior high school students. Data were obtained through validation sheets and student response questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively using percentage scores. Validation results indicated that the developed flipbook was highly feasible, with an average score of 90.75% across content, presentation, linguistic, and graphic aspects. Student responses also showed very positive evaluations, with an average score of 93.75%, particularly noting the media’s attractiveness, readability, and contextual integration with local culture. These findings confirm that the electronic flipbook is a valid and feasible medium for physics learning, offering both technological innovation and cultural relevance. The integration of local cultural elements enriched the contextualization of abstract physics concepts, aligning with constructivist learning principles. However, further classroom implementation is needed to evaluate its effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. The developed flipbook is feasible as a culturally integrated physics learning medium. Future research should focus on large-scale trials to measure its impact on students’ conceptual understanding and motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the feasibility of Android-based science learning media developed using Lectora Inspire software and integrated with herbal ethnoscience on additive materials. Lectora Inspire media was chosen because of its ability to present material interactively and interestingly, while the integration of herbal ethnoscience elements aims to introduce local wisdom to students. This type of research is R&D (Research and Development) using the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluate. The main instrument in data collection is a validation questionnaire using a Likert scale, which involves media experts, material experts, and science teachers as validators. The validation results showed that this media obtained an average feasibility percentage of 90.73%, which is a very feasible category. In comparison, the reliability of the data reached 92.68%, which was categorised as very reliable. This shows that the interactive learning media lectora inspire based on herbal ethnoscience on additive substances material is very feasible to use in learning. In addition, student responses also show that this media provides a more interesting and interactive learning experience, thus affecting students' interest in learning.

Abstract

Learning challenges include using innovative media to improve students' critical thinking skills. This research examined the effectiveness of AR based Discovery Learning as an innovative learning media to enhance students' critical thinking skills. This research employed a pre-experimental approach, specifically utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 28 seventh-grade students from junior high schools in Yogyakarta. A critical thinking skills test focused on Solar System content served as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods with the help of SPSS version 22.0 for Windows. The findings revealed that the average normalized gain (N-gain) in students' critical thinking skills was 0.6327 (medium category), significantly increasing after using AR-based Discovery Learning. The effect size for critical thinking skills is 4.31 (huge category), which indicates that AR, based on Discovery Learning, significantly affects these skills. Discovery learning involves learners actively in the discovery process to increase in-depth understanding of the material. AR media supports more interactive learning through real visualisation of objects. So that AR media based on Discovery Learning can be used as an innovative and technology-based science learning strategy.
