Abstract

This research is aimed to (1) determined the effect of learning strategy Socio-scientific Issues on students’ reflective judgment. This research was a quasi-experimental design with pre-test experimental post-test control group. The variables of this study consists of independent variable implementation strategy Socio-scientific Issues, the dependent variable was reflective judgment student’s ability. The sampling technique used purposive random sampling. The validity of the research instrument used content validity, construct and empirically validity. Test reliability was calculated used Cronbachs Alpha R11= 0.706. Analysis of the data in this study used the Wilcoxon test for reflective judgment. This result showed a significant difference of concept understanding  and reflective judgment between experimental class and control class with a significance level of 0.000. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of learning strategies Socio-scientific Issues effected on the reflective judgment student on the ecosystem (hydrological cycle) material.

Abstract

Climate change is urgent world issue that should be face critically by student. This article tries to illustrate one effort to improve student critical thinking skill toward climate change topics through developing Android-based learning module. By employing design and development research (DDR) approach this research using Search, Solve, Create, and Share (SSCS) learning model on producing the module. In the end of the process the module is ready for use because the comparison between experimental class and control class indicates that there is an increasing of student critical thinking skills when they use the module. Therefore, Android and others technological product should be recognize as having huge potential to encourage student awareness and critical thinking toward climate change issues. Abstrak Perubahan iklim adalah masalah dunia yang mendesak yang harus dihadapi secara kritis oleh siswa. Artikel ini menggambarkan satu upaya meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa terhadap topik-topik perubahan iklim dalam mata pelajaran di sekolah melalui pengembangan modul pembelajaran berbasis Android. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan Design & Development Research (DDR) penelitian ini menggunakan model pembelajaran Search, Solve, Create, dan Share (SSCS) dalam pengembangan modulnya. Pada akhir proses, modul siap digunakan karena perbandingan antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa ketika mereka menggunakan modul tersebut. Dengan demikian, Android dan produk teknologi lainnya harus diakui memiliki potensi besar untuk mendorong kesadaran dan daya kritis siswa terhadap masalah perubahan iklim.

Abstract

Environmental literacy is indicated as one element of learning that is able to solve environmental problems. However, the extent to which the environmental literacy component is embedded in various levels of education has not been revealed much. This study aims to determine the environmental literacy of students in several countries, starting from primary school to university level. Research of the content analysis model was carried out by analyzing 25 articles from international journals and proceedings during 2012-2018. Environmental literacy instruments in this study refer to the evaluation of environmental literacy developed by Liang. The data analysis was performed quantitatively and presented as a percentage. The results showed that the majority of environmental literacy components that were widely studied and developed included cognitive, affective, and psychomotor (48%). Furthermore, junior high school (30.77%) and senior high school (23.08%) were chosen as research subjects in an effort to form a literate generation of the environment. The results of this study can be followed up with the optimization of efforts to strengthen environmental literacy through an appropriate learning process.

Abstract

Environmental problems in Indonesia increase the government's efforts in shaping students' environmental care character through the Adiwiyata program. This study was conducted to determine differences in environmental literacy between Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools in Senior High School (SHS) in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. This survey research using a conventional sampling technique. The sample involved in this study was 1,568 students from nine schools in Sleman Regency. The data collection instrument refers to the instrument developed by the North American Association for Environmental Literacy (NAAEE) and is supported by interviews and observations. Measurement of environmental literacy in this study was carried out in two domains: competence and disposition. Comparative data analysis used the Mann Whitney test assisted by SPSS 25 for windows. The results showed that students' environmental literacy in the Sleman Regency was included in the good category in the competency and disposition domain. Environmental literacy abilities in Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools differ, both in the competency domain which includes competence (sig <0.05) and environmental literacy (sig 0.002), and in the disposition domain with sig <0.05. These results concluded that there were differences in students' environmental literacy skills between Adiwiyata and non-Adiwiyata schools. This research recommends that schools initiate programs to strengthen environmental literacy through strengthening the character of caring for the environment.

Abstract

Laundry liquid waste containing residual detergent, deodorant, fabric softener, bleach, and methylene blue active compounds degraded difficult and dangerous for the health of the environment. Almost all wastewater is discharged home laundry business through sewers or septitank untreated or diluted beforehand so that would pollute the environment. One way toreduce the chemicals present in the wastewater is to phytoremediation. The study aims to determine the effect of water jasmine and lotus biomass on the content of phosphate, the value of BOD, COD, TSS, and pH of laundry wastewater is treated. The independent variables were the type of biomass (water jasmine, lotus) and time of application of the waste. Dependent variables include phosphate levels, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, and pH. Stages of research include 1) cleaning the roots and stems of water jasmine and lotus plants, 2) the process of acclimatization, 3) the application of the plant for a month, and 4) measurement of the dependent variable. The results showed phytoremediation using water jasmine plants can reduce levels of 172.1748 ppm phosphate, lowering the value of COD is 446.890 mg/L, lower the BOD value of 38.748 mg/L, and the lower the pH by 0.18 units of laundry wastewater, value COD, BOD and lowers the pH of 0.18 units of laundry wastewater. Lotus plant can not be used as a laundry liquid waste processing plants in phytoremediation.

Abstract

This research aims were to collect the diversity of natural enemies lived in rice agroecosystem and to observe which management system of rice agroecosystem can conserve natural enemies.There were two kinds of rice agroecosystem observed in this research, multicropping system (surjan system) and monocropping system (non surjan system). There were two parts of surjan fields, aquatic lower part planted with rice and terrestrial higher part planted with vegetables. The surjan fields were different from non surjan fields that were planted with rice only. Non surjan fields were had one part, that was  aquatic part. Natural enemies collecting of surjan fields and non surjan fields was done to get conclusion that which system conserved natural enemies more. This researh  results were : (1) Surjan fields had more kinds of natural enemies than non surjan fields; (2) The management system of rice agroecosystem that conserved natural enemies more was multicropping system in surjan fields.

Abstract

The study was aimed at fi nding out the abundance of aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor, the population of Aedes spp live in aquatic weed area, and the distribution pattern of dengue fever disease related to the population of aquatic weed and Aedes spp. Field survey was conducted for two months to collect the weed population data, mosquito larvae density, and environmental sanitation condition of the villages around Rowo Jombor. The study used quantitative descriptive analysis to see the correlation among weed density, Aedes spp population. The interview was conducted to make its distribution pattern.The results show that: (1) the density of aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor was dominated by Eichornia crassipes mainly on Location V near he outlet, while the Location III which was located in the center of the swamp, the aquatic weed was not found; (2) the larvae of Aedes spp population which lived in aquatic weed area was not found; and (3) the result could not prove the relationship between the pattern of dengue fever disease distribution and the aquatic weeds in Rowo Jombor as the habitat for mosquito larvae of Aedes spp.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pola kearifan petani sawah surjan dalam mengkonservasi lahan pertanian dan  hubungan pola kearifan petani sawah surjan dengan komponen-komponen ekosistem pertanian yang dapat dikonservasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan data sekunder dan angket. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa pola kearifan petani sawah surjan dalam mengkonservasi lahan pertanian adalah secara turun temurun, seringkali tanpa memahami makna atau tanpa sadar; dan hubungan pola kearifan petani sawah surjan dengan komponen-komponen ekosistem pertanian yang dapat dikonservasi adalah membantu menciptakan ekosistem pertanian yang lebih stabil dengan adanya keragaman tanaman yang ditanam, sehingga tidak mudah terserang hama dan dengan adanya diversifikasi hasil panen dapat memberikan keuntungan lebih bagi petani
