Abstract

Conventional teaching techniques frequently result in a dull and uninteresting learning environment. The bingo game has proven to be one of the most useful and adaptable gamified teaching strategies available to educators. It may transform traditional learning exercises into dynamic experiences. This research explored students' perceptions on the use of the bingo game as a gamification at Madyathika Polytechnic. This research used a descriptive quantitative approach. The research involved 40 participants consist of the first semester students of the Madyathika Polytechnic. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test, questionnaires, observation and interviews. They were analyzed using the quantitative methods approach. The result of the research indicated that the paired samples t-test revealed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p < 0.001), indicating that the bingo game effectively improved participants' scores, with a mean post-test score of 48.5 compared to a mean pre-test score of 30.8. In addition, a significant majority of respondents (75%) found the bingo game helpful for understanding the material. Additionally, 85% reported a vibrant classroom atmosphere, and 75% noted clear instructions. Overall, it is recognized as a successful educational tool promoting quick thinking through gamification.

Abstract

This article is the activities collected Indonesian transcript data from the web comic "Jajan Squad" which is translated into English as primary data obtained by reading from Webtoon Application. The "Jajan Squad" webcomic is a slice of life genre published on the Webtoon application in 2017. 'Jajan Squad' is among the top 25 most favourite webtoon comic based on the most loves and readers. The purposes of translating 'Jajan Squad' Webcomic is to translate the web comic from Indonesian into English, explain the process and techniques in translation, explain the obstacles during translation, and explain the solutions to overcome obstacles in translation. There are 11 translation technique (out of 18) used from Molina and Albir. The literal technique is most frequently used in webcomic translation, because there are many sentences that are translated word by word. The conclusion is that this job training report was conducted according to the translation process and only used 11 translation techniques (out of 18).

Abstract

Writing a business letter is a fundamental skill in the professional world, yet it presents various difficulties that can challenge even experienced writers. This research aims to analyze the common errors found in students’ business letter writing, categorize them, explore their possible causes, and suggest educational approaches to address these issues. This research used a descriptive quantitative approach. To achieve these objectives, frequencies, percentages and means of errors were calculated and tabulated. The data gathered by observation and documentation, where the documentation was writing assignment assigned by the lecturer. The result of research showed that students’ error in writing business letter were 55 errors. First, there were 29 errors in omission which were 52,7% of total errrors. Second, there were 19 errors in misformation which were 34,5% of total errors. Third, there were 6 error in addition which were 11% of total errors. There were 1 error in misordering which were 1,8% of total errors. Furthermore, the dominant errors in this research was omission which were 52,7% of total errors. In addition, brainstorming, drafting, peer review, and revising should be done as this improves error awareness and overall quality. Moreover, the teachers can assist the learners so that they will be able to draft business letters that are grammatically correct and contextually suitable.

Abstract

This research explores the challenges and benefits of learning Business English from a learner-centered perspective, specifically at Madyathika Polytechnic. In today’s global environment, English is vital in the workplace, particularly in business, elevating its importance in higher education, especially vocational schools. Despite gaining valuable skills, students face significant challenges such as limited business vocabulary, lack of speaking confidence, insufficient real-world material exposure, and varying English proficiency levels. The research involved the second semester students of the Madyathika Polytechnic as the participants. This research uses a qualitative case study method to understand students’ experiences. The data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving selected students. However, the findings indicate that learning business English has significant advantages for pupils. They enhance their communication skills, boost confidence in professional English settings, and feel better prepared for future jobs. Engaging in discussions, role-plays, and real-world simulations fosters student motivation and engagement.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan menulis kalimat deskriptif sederhana dalam bahasa Inggris pada siswa SD UMP melalui pembelajaran interaktif berbasis aktivitas edukatif. Kegiatan ini melibatkan 24 siswa kelas V dengan pendekatan icebreaking activities, permainan edukatif, serta latihan menulis berbantuan media gambar. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi pretest, pemberian materi tentang descriptive objects, praktik menulis secara bertahap, serta posttest sebagai evaluasi akhir. Instrumen evaluasi berupa tes menulis kalimat deskriptif berdasarkan gambar. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis siswa. Rata-rata nilai meningkat dari 60,9 pada pretest menjadi 85,4 pada posttest, dengan peningkatan ketuntasan belajar dari 20,8% menjadi 91,7%. Selain peningkatan kognitif, siswa juga menunjukkan peningkatan kepercayaan diri, partisipasi aktif, dan motivasi dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Kesimpulannya, kegiatan pengabdian ini efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis deskriptif siswa sekolah dasar melalui pembelajaran yang interaktif dan berbasis pengalaman belajar aktif.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the transformation of school culture through the implementation of positive discipline and deep learning strategies in order to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on quality education. This study was conducted at SMP Negeri 2 Mranggen using a mixed-method approach and case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, documentation, and questionnaires, involving the principal, teachers, and students as participants. The research results show that the planned and consistent implementation of positive discipline successfully builds a supportive, inclusive school climate and encourages individual responsibility. Meanwhile, the deep learning approach in the learning process strengthens student engagement, critical thinking, and collaboration in line with sustainability values. The transformation of school culture is manifested in the form of changes in values, interaction patterns, and more humanistic pedagogical practices. This research recommends the importance of integrating SDG values into school culture management through strengthening teacher capacity and transformative school leadership.
