Abstract

Twenty-first century education demands assessment systems that evaluate not only cognitive performance but also learners’ ability to apply knowledge, skills, and attitudes in real contexts. Authentic and competency-based assessments offer strategic approaches to achieving comprehensive evaluation. This study aims to analyze their concepts, principles, and implementation in improving learning quality. A systematic literature review of 30 scholarly articles, research reports, and educational policies published within the last decade was conducted. The findings reveal that authentic assessment effectively fosters critical, creative, collaborative, and communicative skills through contextual and real-world tasks. Competency-based assessment, meanwhile, emphasizes the integrated measurement of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies. The integration of both approaches produces a valid, holistic, and relevant assessment model aligned with 21st-century educational and workplace demands. Nonetheless, implementation challenges persist, including limited teacher understanding, the need for continuous professional development, and the creation of objective scoring rubrics. The study recommends strengthening educators’ capacity to design authentic, competency-based assessments and encouraging institutional policy support for effective and sustainable implementation.

Abstract

Twenty-first century education requires students to possess critical, creative, collaborative, and communicative thinking skills, as well as adequate literacy and numeracy competencies. However, the education system in Indonesia still faces various challenges, including low levels of higher-order thinking skills, disparities in the utilization of educational technology, and the need for contextual and interdisciplinary learning approaches. One approach considered relevant in addressing these challenges is the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach. This study aims to analyze the role and relevance of the STEM approach in responding to the challenges of twenty-first century education in Indonesia through a literature review method. The research method employed is a literature study that examines scientific articles, conference proceedings, and both national and international publications related to STEM-based learning. The findings indicate that the STEM approach effectively promotes the development of twenty-first century skills, enhances students’ scientific literacy and numeracy, and fosters meaningful and contextual learning experiences. Therefore, the STEM approach has significant potential to be implemented as an innovative instructional strategy to support educational transformation and improvement in Indonesia.

Abstract

Transformasi teknologi digital telah mendorong perubahan paradigma dalam dunia pendidikan menuju pembelajaran yang lebih aktif, kolaboratif, dan berfokus pada keterampilan abad ke-21. Dalam konteks pembelajaran sains, tantangan utama yang dihadapi adalah bagaimana menumbuhkan kreativitas dan inovasi siswa. Salah satu solusi yang efektif adalah mengintegrasikan model project-based learning dengan platform Padlet, yang dapat meningkatkan kolaborasi, kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan pembelajaran kontekstual. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk melihat bagaimana model project-based learning  berbantu Padlet terhadap peningkatan kreativitas dan inovasi siswa dibandingkan dengan pembelajaran konvensional. Penelitian ini memakai pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen semu (quasi-experiment), melibatkan 60 siswa yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Data dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, serta uji hipotesis multivariat (MANOVA). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa seluruh data berdistribusi normal (Asymp. Sig = 0,200) dan memenuhi asumsi homogenitas (Sig > 0,05). Uji multivariat menghasilkan nilai Wilks’ Lambda sebesar 0,525 dengan signifikansi 0,000, mengindikasikan adanya perbedaan yang berarti antara kedua kelompok. Secara parsial, model project-based learning berbantu Padlet memiliki pengaruh signifikan terhadap kreativitas (F = 24,414; p = 0,000) dan inovasi (F = 44,429; p = 0,000), dengan nilai R² masing-masing 0,296 dan 0,434, yang menunjukkan kontribusi model terhadap kedua variabel tersebut. K Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa penerapan project-based learning berbantu Padlet tidak hanya efektif dalam menumbuhkan kreativitas, tetapi juga mendukung pengembangan berbagai keterampilan abad ke-21, seperti berpikir kritis, berkolaborasi, berkomunikasi, dan berkreasi.
