Abstract

In chicken feed, notably quail feed, turmeric (Curcuma longa) is frequently used in place of antimicrobial growth promoters. Low dosages of turmeric, an antibiotic, are used to improve animal growth and output. Analyzing the effects of supplementing with fermented turmeric extract on the slaughter weight, carcass weight, and percentage of physical content of quail carcasses (Coturnix coturnix japonica) was the aim based on this study. The investigation was carried out at the Faculty of Animal Science's Sesetan Farm in Denpasar, Bali. Fermented turmeric extract was added to drinking water as the therapy in this trial, which employed a completely randomized design (CRD). The following were the treatments: P0 (control, which was water supplied without fermented turmeric extract), P1 (drinking water containing 1% fermented turmeric extract), and P2 (drinking water containing 2% enzyme). Drinking water containing 1% fermented turmeric extract, P2 (drinking water containing 2% fermented turmeric extract), P3 (drinking water containing 3% fermented turmeric extract), and P0 (control, without fermented turmeric extract) were the treatments. Slaughter weight, carcass weight, and the carcass's physical composition—which includes the proportion of meat, skin, fat, and bone—were the parameters that were measured. The percentage of meat in the quail carcass's physical composition was significantly impacted by the addition of fermented turmeric extract at levels of 1%, 2%, and 3%, according to the results (P<0.05). Slaughter weight, carcass weight, and various carcass physical composition percentages, such as skin, fat, and bone percentages, did not, however, alter significantly as a result of this therapy. According to the study's findings, the percentages of skin and fat, slaughter weight, carcass weight, and bone percentage were not significantly impacted by the 1%, 2%, and 3% of fermented turmeric extract added to drinking water. The percentage of meat in the physical makeup of quail carcasses, however, was significantly impacted by treatments at the 2% (P2) and 3% (P3) levels. ABSTRAK Kunyit (Curcuma longa) kerap menjadi alternatif yang menggantikan antibiotic growth promoter pada pakan unggas, termasuk burung puyuh. Kunyit merupakan antibiotik yang ditambahkan dalam dosis rendah untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan produktivitas ternak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis dampak pemberian ekstrak kunyit terfermentasi pada bobot potong, bobot karkas, dan persentase komposisi fisik karkas burung puyuh (Coturnix coturnix japonica). Studi ini dilakukan di Peternakan Sesetan, Fakultas Peternakan, Denpasar, Bali. Studi ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL), dimana perlakuan yang diberikan adalah pencampuran ekstrak kunyit yang telah difermentasi ke air minum. Perlakuan terdiri dari: P0 (kontrol, tanpa ekstrak kunyit fermentasi), P1 (air minum dengan ekstrak kunyit fermentasi 1%), P2 (air minum dengan ekstrak kunyit fermentasi 2%), dan P3 (air minum dengan ekstrak kunyit fermentasi 3%). Parameter yang diamati yaitu bobot potong, bobot karkas, dan persentase komposisi fisik karkas yang terdiri dari persentase daging, kulit dan lemak serta tulang. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa penambahan ekstrak kunyit terfermentasi pada level 1%, 2%, dan 3% berpengaruh nyata terhadap persentase daging pada komposisi fisik karkas puyuh (P<0,05). Namun perlakuan tersebut tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata terhadap bobot potong, bobot karkas, maupun persentase komposisi fisik karkas yang lain, seperti persentase kulit dan lemak serta tulang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, pemberian ekstrak kunyit terfermentasi melalui air minum dengan level 1%, 2%, serta 3% tidak memberikan pengaruh signifikan pada bobot potong, bobot karkas, persentase tulang, maupun persentase kulit dan lemak. Akan tetapi, perlakuan pada level 2% (P2) dan 3% (P3) menunjukkan pengaruh nyata terhadap persentase daging dalam komposisi fisik karkas burung puyuh.

Abstract

Since the prohibition of the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) in livestock because the use of this antibiotic can produce residues in broilers that settle in the body, then another alternative is needed using natural feed additives, one of the natural feed additives is papaya peel. This study has the aim of establishing the effect of producing papaya skin extracts from drinking water for broilers internal organs which was carried out at Sesetan Farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Denpasar, Bali in 2 months. This study uses a completely random design (CRD) which is divided into 4 treatments, and 5 replication makes it has 20 experimental units and each replication is divided into the top 4 broilers. The treatments given were broilers served drinking water without papaya peel extract (P0), broilers given 4% papaya peel extract through drinking water (P1), broilers served 6% papaya peel extract through drinking water (P2), broilers served 8% papaya peel extract through drinking water (P3). Observed variables included the percentage of heart, liver, spleen, gallbladder, and pancreas. The study's findings indicate that the presentation of papaya peel extract at 4%, 6%, and 8% levels had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the percentage of heart, liver, spleen, gallbladder, and pancreas. The study findings suggest that administering 4% and 6% papaya peel extract through drinking water can improve the health of broiler internal organs. ABSTRAK Sejak adanya pelarangan penggunaan Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) pada ternak dikarenakan penggunaan antibiotik ini dapat menghasilkan residu terhadap broiler yang mengendap pada tubuh, maka diperlukan alternatif lain menggunakan feed additive alami, salah satu feed additive alami iyalah kulit buah pepaya. Studi ini memiliki tujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak kulit pepaya melalui air minum terhadap organ dalam broiler yang dilakukan di Farm Sesetan, Fakultas Peternakan, Denpasar, Bali dalam 2 bulan. Studi ini memilih Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terbagi atas 4 perlakuan, serta 5 ulangan menjadikan adanya 20 unit eksperimen serta masing-masing ulangan terdiri dari 4 ekor broiler. Perlakuan yang diberikan ialah broiler yang disajikan air minum tidak adanya ekstrak kulit buah pepaya (P0), broiler yang disajikan 4% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum (P1), broiler yang disajikan 6% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum (P2), broiler yang disajikan 8% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum (P3). Variabel yang diamati meliputi persentase jantung, hati, limpa, empedu serta pankreas. Temuan studi ini mengindikasikan jika penyajian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya pada level 4%, 6% dan 8% berbanding tidak nyata (P>0,05) atas persentase jantung, hati, limpa, empedu serta pankreas. Menurut temuan studi dinyatakan jika pemberian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya 4% dan 6% melalui air minum dapat menyehatkan organ dalam broiler.

Abstract

Broilers are the main source of animal protein and an important commodity in Indonesia. However, fat accumulation in broiler bodies remains a problem that needs to be addressed. This study aims to determine the effect of adding papaya peel extract to drinking water on broiler abdominal fat. This study was conducted at Sesetan Farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University in February 2025. This study involved 80 broilers given papaya peel extract in drinking water at different concentrations, namely 4%, 6%, and 8%. The study was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method of 4 treatments, 5 replications, P0 as a control (drinking water without the addition of papaya peel extract), P1 (drinking water with the addition of 4% papaya peel extract), P2 (drinking water with the addition of 6% papaya peel extract) and P3 (drinking water with the addition of 8% papaya peel extract). Observed variables included the percentage of fat in the pads, mesentery, ventricle, and abdominal area. The findings of the study of serving papaya peel extract at concentrations of 4%, 6%, and 8% showed no significant difference (P>0.05) on pad and mesenteric fat, but had a significant impact (P<0.05) on reducing ventricular fat. Compounds in papaya peel extract were proven to be metabolically effective in reducing the percentage distribution of ventricular fat. It can be concluded that administering papaya peel extract up to 8% in drinking water did not have an impact on reducing pad, mesenteric fat, and abdominal fat, but at 6-8% levels it was able to reduce total ventricular fat in 35-day-old broilers. ABSTRAK Broiler merupakan sumber utama protein hewani dan menjadi komoditas penting di Indonesia. Namun, penumpukan lemak pada tubuh broiler masih menjadi masalah yang perlu diatasi. Studi ini memiliki mengetahui pengaruh penambahan ekstrak kulit buah pepaya dalam air minum terhadap lemak abdominal broiler. Studi ini dilakukan pada Farm Sesetan, Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Udayana di bulan Februari 2025. Penelitian ini melibatkan 80 ekor broiler yang diberikan ekstrak kulit buah pepaya dalam air minum secara konsentrasi berbeda, yaitu 4%, 6%, dan 8%. Penelitian dirancang menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dari 4 perlakuan, 5 ulangan, P0 sebagai kontrol (air minum tidak adanya penambahan ekstrak kulit buah pepaya), P1 (air minum dengan penambahan 4% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya), P2 (air minum secara penambahan 6% ekstrak ekstrak kulit buah pepaya) dan P3 (air minum secara penambahan 8% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya). Variabel yang diamati mencakup persentase lemak pada bantalan, mesenterium, ventrikulus, serta area abdominal. Temuan studi penyajian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya pada konsentrasi 4%, 6%, dan 8% tidak menunjukkan perbedaan tidak nyata (P>0,05) terhadap lemak bantalan dan mesenterium, tetapi berdampak nyata (P<0,05) bagi penurunan lemak ventrikulus. Senyawa dalam ekstrak kulit buah pepaya terbukti efektif secara metabolik dalam menurunkan distribusi persentase lemak ventrikulus. Dapat disimpulkan, pemberian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya hingga level 8% pada air minum tidak berdampak bagi penurunan lemak bantalan, lemak mesenterium dan lemak abdomen tetapi pada level 6-8% sanggup mengurangi total lemak ventrikulus di broiler berumur 35 hari.

Abstract

The need for Balinese duck meat continues to increase, but is still hampered by the low level of productivity of Balinese ducks as meat producers in terms of quality and quantity. This study aims to determine commercial cuts of Bali duck carcasses that were given moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria through drinking water. This research was carried out at the Sesetan farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, located on Jln. Raya Sesetan Gang Markisa, Denpasar, lasts for 8 weeks. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and four replications and each treatment unit contained 3 individuals, so that 48 male Bali ducks were used. The treatments given were: Drinking water without giving Moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria (A); Drinking water with administration of Moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria 2.5% (B); Drinking water with Moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria 5 (C); Drinking water with Moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria 7.5% (D). The variables observed were the percentage of upper thighs, lower thighs, wings, chest and back. The results showed that the percentage of upper thighs, lower thighs, wings, chest and back decreased. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that giving Moringa leaf juice fermented by cellulolytic probiotic bacteria through drinking water at a level of 2.5 - 7.5% has not been able to increase the percentage of upper thighs, lower thighs, wings, thighs and backs of Bali ducks. ABSTRAK Kebutuhan terhadap daging itik bali terus meningkat, namun masih terkendala oleh rendahnya tingkat produktivitas itik bali sebagai penghasil daging secara kualitas dan kuantitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potongan komersial karkas itik bali yang diberi jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik melalui air minum. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di farm Sesetan Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Udayana yang berlokasi di Jln. Raya Sesetan Gang Markisa, Denpasar, berlangsung selama 8 minggu. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan empat perlakuan dan empat ulangan serta setiap unit perlakuan diisi 3 ekor, sehingga itik bali jantan yang digunakan sebanyak 48 ekor. Perlakuan yang diberian yaitu : Air minum tanpa pemberian jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik (A); Air minum dengan pemberian jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik 2,5% (B); Air minum dengan pemberian jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik 5 (C); Air minum dengan pemberian jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik 7,5% (D). Variabel yang diamati adalah persentase paha atas, paha bawah, sayap, dada, dan punggung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persentase paha atas, paha bawah, sayap, dada, dan punggung mengalami penurunan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian jus daun kelor terfermentasi bakteri probiotik selulolitik melalui air minum pada level 2,5 – 7,5% belum mampu meningkatkan persentase paha atas, paha bawah, sayap, paha, punggung itik bali.

Abstract

The prohibition of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) due to the risk of antibiotic resistance has necessitated the exploration of natural feed additive alternatives to maintain broiler productivity and carcass quality. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of administering papaya peel aqueous extract through drinking water on the proportion of commercial carcass cuts in broilers. The experiment was conducted over a period of five weeks at Farm Sesetan, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, in February 2025. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was employed, consisting of four treatments with five replications, involving a total of 80 broilers. The treatments included P0 as the control (0% papaya peel aqueous extract), P1 (4% papaya peel aqueous extract), P2 (6% papaya peel aqueous extract), and P3 (8% papaya peel aqueous extract). The variables observed were the percentages of breast, back, upper thigh, lower thigh, and wing. The results demonstrated that the administration of papaya peel aqueous extract through drinking water at levels of 4%, 6%, and 8% exerted no significant effect (P>0.05) compared to the control (P0) on the percentages of breast, back, thigh, drumstick, and wing. It can therefore be concluded that supplementation of drinking water with papaya peel aqueous extract at inclusion levels of 4%, 6%, and 8% did not affect the proportion of commercial carcass cuts of broilers. ABSTRAK Larangan penggunaan AGP akibat risiko resistensi antibiotik mendorong perlunya alternatif feed additive alami untuk menjaga produktivitas dan kualitas broiler. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari pemberian ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum terhadap potongan karkas komersial broiler. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama 5 minggu di Farm Sesetan Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Udayana pada bulan Februari tahun 2025. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan yang melibatkan 80 ekor broiler diberikan ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum dengan level pemberian yang berbeda yaitu P0 sebagai kontrol (pemberian 0% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya), P1 (pemberian 4% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya), P2 (pemberian 6% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya), dan P3 (pemberian 8% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya). Variabel yang diamati adalah persentase dada, punggung, paha atas, paha bawah, dan sayap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum dengan pemberian dosis 4%, 6%, dan 8% berbeda tidak nyata (P>0,05) dibandingkan dengan kontrol (P0) terhadap persentase dada, punggung, paha atas, paha bawah, dan sayap broiler. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya melalui air minum pada level pemberian 4%, 6%, dan 8% belum mampu memberi pengaruh terhadap persentase potongan karkas komersial broiler.

Abstract

Papaya peel is one of the wastes that contains active phytochemical compounds becomes pure feed additives, because the prohibition on use of AGP, due to the resistance effects caused in broilers. This study intends to understand the impact providing papaya peel extract from Drinking water by broiler performance which held at Sesetan Farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Denpasar, Bali in 34 days. This study uses a complete random design (RAL) from 4 actions, 5 replications as well as each replication consisted of four broilers with a body weight of 45.57 ± 2.47 g. The treatments given were; P0 (Drinking water without papaya peel extract), P1 (Drinking water + 4% papaya peel extract), P2 (Drinking water + 6% papaya peel extract), and P3 (Drinking water + 8% papaya peel extract). The variables observed include First body weight, feed consumption, drinking water consumption, final body weight, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). The findings of this study showed that the administration of papaya peel extract at levels of 4%, 6%, and 8% significantly differed (P<0.05) in drinking water use, weight gain, final weight, as well as fcr, however did not significantly affect (P>0.05) on feed consumption. The conclusion of this study is that the presentation of papaya peel extract at 4%, 6%, and 8% can increase water consumption, final body weight, weight gain, and reduce FCR, but did not significantly affect feed consumption of 34-day-old broilers. ABSTRAK Kulit buah pepaya ialah salah satu limbah yang memiliki kandungan senyawa fitokimia yang aktif sebagai sumber feed additive alami, dikarenakan adanya pelarangan pemakaian Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP), akibat efek resistensi yang ditimbulkan pada broiler. Studi ini memiliki tujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya dari air minum terhadap performa broiler yang dilangsungkan pada Farm Sesetan, Fakultas Peternakan, Denpasar, Bali dalam 34 hari. Studi ini memakai Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dari 4 perlakuan, 5 ulangan serta tiap ulangan terbagi dari empat ekor broiler dengan berat badan 45,57 ± 2,47 g. Perlakuan yang disediakan, ialah; P0 (Air minum tidak adanya ekstrak kulit buah pepaya), P1 (Air minum + 4% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya), P2 (Air minum + 6% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya), serta P3 (Air minum + 8% ekstrak kulit buah pepaya). Variabel yang diamati mencakup berat badan awal, konsumsi ransum, konsumsi air minum, berat badan akhir, pertambahan berat badan serta feed conversion ratio (FCR). Temuan studi ini menunjukan bahwa pemberian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya pada level 4%, 6%, dan 8% berbanding nyata (P<0,05) atas konsumsi air minum, pertambahan BB, berat badan akhir serta FCR, namun tidak berbanding nyata (P>0,05) atas konsumsi ransum. Kesimpulan studi ini yaitu penyajian ekstrak kulit buah pepaya pada 4%, 6%, dan 8% dapat meningkatkan konsumsi air, berat badan akhir, pertambahan berat badan, serta mengurangi FCR, tetapi tidak berdampak nyata atas konsumsi ransum broiler usia 34 hari.

Abstract

The ban on the use of Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGP) due to antibiotic resistance in livestock encourages the search for safe and natural feed additive solutions to maintain broiler productivity, one of which is using papaya peel. Papaya peel water extract is used as a natural feed additive given to broiler drinking water for 35 days of maintenance. This study aims to determine the effect of papaya peel water extract (Carica papaya L.) in drinking water on the physical composition of broiler carcasses. The study was conducted at Sesetan Farm, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali in February 2025. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 4 treatments and 5 replications using 80 broilers. The treatments given were drinking water without papaya peel water extract (P0) as a control, drinking water with 4% papaya peel water extract (P1), drinking water with 6% papaya peel water extract (P2), and drinking water with 8% papaya peel water extract (P3). The variables observed included slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, meat percentage, bone percentage, and skin and subcutaneous fat percentage. The results showed that the administration of papaya peel water extract at dosage levels of 4%, 6%, and 8% in drinking water on slaughter weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, meat percentage, bone percentage, and skin and subcutaneous fat percentage of broilers were not significantly different (P>0.05) compared to the control treatment (P0). Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the administration of papaya peel water extract at dosage levels of 4%, 6%, and 8% in drinking water was not able to significantly improve the physical composition of broiler carcasses. ABSTRAK Pelarangan penggunaan Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) akibat resistensi antibiotik pada tubuh ternak mendorong untuk mencari solusi feed additive yang aman dan alami untuk tetap menjaga produktivitas broiler, salah satunya menggunakan kulit buah pepaya. Ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya dimanfaatkan sebagai feed additive alami yang diberikan ke dalam air minum broiler selama 35 hari pemeliharaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya (Carica papaya L.) dalam air minum terhadap komposisi fisik karkas broiler. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Farm Sesetan, Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Udayana, Denpasar, Bali pada bulan Februari 2025. Penelitian menggunakan metode Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan dengan menggunakan 80 ekor broiler. Perlakuan yang diberikan yaitu air minum tanpa ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya (P0) sebagai kontrol, air minum dengan 4% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya (P1), air minum dengan 6% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya (P2), dan air minum dengan 8% ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya (P3). Variabel yang diamati meliputi bobot potong, bobot karkas, persentase karkas, persentase daging, persentase tulang, serta persentase kulit dan lemak subkutan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya pada level dosis 4%, 6%, dan 8% dalam air minum terhadap bobot potong, bobot karkas, persentase karkas, persentase daging, persentase tulang, serta persentase kulit dan lemak subkutan broiler tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) dibandingkan dengan perlakuan kontrol (P0). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak air kulit buah pepaya pada level dosis 4%, 6%, dan 8% dalam air minum belum mampu meningkatkan komposisi fisik karkas broiler secara signifikan.
