Abstract

Accurate production forecasting is essential for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to support effective production planning, inventory control, and decision-making. This study evaluates the performance of the Simple Moving Average (SMA) and Weighted Moving Average (WMA) methods in forecasting tela-tela production demand at MSME X using different historical period lengths. Production data from November 2023 to October 2024 were analyzed, and forecasting accuracy was assessed using the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). The results indicate that forecasting accuracy varies depending on both the length of the moving average period and the weighting scheme applied. The WMA model with a 4-period window (n = 4) achieved the highest accuracy, producing the lowest MAPE value of 8.36%, which is classified as highly accurate. The SMA model with n = 4 also demonstrated good performance, with a MAPE value of 14.40%. Meanwhile, models employing longer historical periods (n = 8) yielded MAPE values of 16.20% for WMA and 19.82% for SMA, both falling within the good forecasting performance category but exhibiting lower responsiveness to recent demand changes. These findings highlight that shorter historical periods, when combined with appropriate weighting, can more effectively capture recent demand patterns in dynamic production environments. Accordingly, the WMA method with a 4-period window is recommended for MSME X as a reliable and accurate approach to support production planning, optimize resource allocation, and reduce the risk of overproduction or stock shortages.

Abstract

Makmur Jaya Farmers Group is a partner of this PKM program.Teh group still relies on synthetic pesticides and traditional pest control methods due to limited trust in biopesticides. They also lack understanding of vegetable cultivation techniques based on the substitution of synthetis pesticides with biopesticides usingthe 6T principles, have limited skills in proper pesticide application, and require adequate spraying equipment. This PKM activity aims to shift the farmers mindset toward biopesticides, provide knowledge on vegetable cultivation through synthetic to biopesticide substitution appling the 6T principles, enhance their pesticide application skills and provide spraying equipment as assistance. The program began with a needs assessment, followed by socialization, training sessions, hand on practice in environmentally friendly pest and disease control, and the handover of donated sprayers. As aresult, the famers knoeledge and skills in eco-friendly OPT management significantly improved. Participans showed great enthusiasm and expressed commitment to transition from chemical pesticides to biopesticides.

Abstract

Abstract. Damanik RIM, Hanum C, Sembiring LJ. 2023. Response of various growth regulators and shade intensity to the growth of arabica coffee seedlings of Sigarar Utang variety. Nusantara Bioscience 15: 85-89. The productivity of Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica L.) of the Sigarar Utang variety in Indonesia is still relatively low, especially in Simalungun District, North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Growth regulators and shade are some factors that must be considered in nurseries. This research aims to determine the best growth regulators type and shade intensity for Arabika coffee seedling growth. The experiment was conducted from March to June 2022 in Nagori Ujung Bawang, Simalungun District, and the Central Laboratory of Agriculture Faculty, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan, North Sumatra. The study used a Split Plot design of 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor (main plot) consists of 4 levels, namely 0, 50, 70, and 90% shade intensity. The second factor (sub-plot) consists of the three growth regulator treatments, i.e., auxin, cytokinin, and the combination of auxin and cytokinin. The results showed that the interaction between shade intensity and growth regulators had a significantly different effect on increasing root length. The shade treatment significantly affected plant height, leaf area, and total chlorophyll content of leaves. However, it did not affect the stem diameter. A shade intensity of 90% significantly increased plant height, leaf area, and total chlorophyll content of leaves.
