Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has created a wave of uncertainty that has led to economic failure and disruption, particularly in the micro and small business sector. This study aims to analyze the impact of the pandemic on MSMEs, using a case study in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. This study uses primary data collected from 100 MSMEs in Kendari City through structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews, using a stratified random sampling method. The variables analyzed included income, number of employees, turnover, business capital, and marketing strategies before and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Data analysis was conducted using independent t-tests and fixed effects estimation to identify the impact of the pandemic on MSME performance and strategies. The analysis shows that the pandemic crisis has significantly impacted the economic system, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises, as reflected in decreased income and disrupted employment, which in turn has led to increased unemployment. This impact has also affected business turnover and prompted changes in marketing strategies. Nearly 60% of MSMEs in Kendari City have experienced economic difficulties since the pandemic emerged in Indonesia. In Southeast Sulawesi, the decline in MSME performance is predicted to be primarily due to the low utilization of technology in product marketing, which is limited by the availability of funds.

Abstract

This study examines how Good Corporate Governance (GCG), macroeconomic conditions, and bank-specific characteristics influence the profitability of foreign exchange banks in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, the research analyzes secondary data from the annual financial statements of foreign exchange banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over the period 2014–2022. The study investigates the direct effects of GCG on profitability, the influence of macroeconomic factors on bank-specific characteristics and profitability, and the role of bank-specific characteristics in determining profitability. Data were analyzed using partial least squares with a resampling technique to test the significance of relationships. The results show that GCG contributes positively to overall bank financial performance; however, its direct effect on profitability is positive but not statistically significant. Macroeconomic conditions are found to positively affect bank-specific characteristics, while exerting a negative influence on profitability. In contrast, bank-specific characteristics—particularly bank size, total assets, and deposit growth—have a significant and positive impact on profitability. These findings suggest that strengthening governance practices alone is not sufficient to directly increase profitability. Banks also need to improve asset management and expand deposit bases to enhance financial performance. In addition, effective management of macroeconomic risks is essential to reduce their adverse effects on bank profitability. This study provides empirical insights into the interaction between governance, economic conditions, and internal bank factors in Indonesia’s banking sector.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitusis a chronic metabolic disease that requires long-term treatment and optimal patient adherence to prevent complications. Low medication adherence often becomes a major barrier to successful therapy. This study aimed to determine the effect of education delivered through video media on medication adherence among patients with Diabetes Mellitus in the working area of Puskesmas Perumnas, Kendari City. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach, involving 87 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The independent variable was education using video media, while the dependent variable was medication adherence measured using the MMAS-8 questionnaire. The results showed that before receiving the educational intervention, most respondents had low (57.5%) and moderate (42.5%) adherence levels. Following the video-based education, adherence improved, with 63.2% categorized as high, 27.6% as moderate, and 9.2% as low. The Marginal HomogeneityTest yielded a p-valueof 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of video-based education on improving medication adherence among patients with Diabetes Mellitus. In conclusion, education delivered through video media is effective in increasing medicationa dherence.
