In Panca Mukti Village, cassava has traditionally been processed only into simple products such as boiled cassava or fermented cassava (tapai), while cassava peels are generally discarded as waste. This community service program aimed to increase entrepreneurial interest through training in the production of cassava-based processed products, namely cassava flour and scrub powder made from cassava peel waste. The implementation method consisted of three stages: (1) an educational stage involving the delivery of material on the benefits of cassava and economically valuable cassava-based products; (2) a training stage focusing on hands-on practice in producing cassava flour and cassava peel scrub powder; and (3) an evaluation stage assessing community understanding before and after the program through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The activity involved 20 members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK). The results showed a significant increase in the mean post-test scores compared to the pre-test scores, indicating improved community understanding of the benefits of cassava and its potential for value-added business development. Statistical analysis using SPSS (Paired Sample t-test) demonstrated a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.00). In addition, participants acquired practical skills in processing cassava and cassava peel waste into cassava flour and scrub powder, which have potential as entrepreneurial products. In conclusion, this community service program successfully enhanced the knowledge and skills of the Panca Mukti Village community regarding the benefits of cassava and the development of cassava-based processed products with entrepreneurial potential. Keywords: cassava; bengkulu tengah; panca mukti; powder scrub; cassava flour

Abstract

Immunomodulators are medicines that alter or influence the immune system to make it work more effectively. Immunomodulators can increase (immunostimulants) or decrease immune response (immunosuppressants). Secondary metabolites that have immunomodulatory activity are polyphenols, alkaloids, and terpenoids. One of the plants that contain these secondary metabolites is Japanese papaya leaves. Japanese papaya leaves have been widely used as traditional medicine to treat various diseases. This study aims to determine the effect of the administration of Japanese papaya leaf extract on differential leukocytes of male white mice. This study used 24 male white mice with skin allergies after administering 20% ovalbumin 0.2 mL/20g BW intraperitoneally on day 1 and day 7 subcutaneously. Twenty male white mice were divided into 4 groups. Group I (control) mice weren’t given ovalbumin antigen or papaya leaf extract; groups II, III, and IV were given ovalbumin and extract (100; 200; 400 mg/kg BW). After oral administration of the extract for seven days, leukocyte differential count of white mice. Giving ethanol extract of japanese papaya leaves at doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg BW can significantly affect leukocyte differentials, namely lymphocytes and monocytes (p<0.05). While basophils, eosinophils, rod-neutrophils, and segment-neutrophils are not significantly different (p>0.05).

Abstract

Secondary metabolites of medicinal plants, including polyphenols, flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids, serve as crucial sources for the development of anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs. One of the plants with a high concentration of secondary metabolites is African leaves, which contain a variety of secondary metabolites, including alkaloids, glycosides, steroids, flavonoids, tannins, terpenoids. Whithing reflex test, which used intraperitoneal injection of acetic acid 0.5% to induce the reflex. The mice, which were divided into six groups: Group I (normal animals): not administered any treatment; Group II (negative control): only administered acetic acid; Group III (positive control/comparator): administered ibuprofen 200mg/kgBW; Group IV: administered 150mg/kgBW extract, Group V: administered 300mg/kgBW extract, group VI: administered 600mg/kgBW extract. The number of writhes should be counted every 10 minutes for a duration of 30 minutes. The percentage of analgesic protection in groups I, II, III, IV, V, and VI, respectively, was 98.84%, 0%, 97.65%, 23.52%, 76.47%, and 88.23%. The one-way ANOVA test yielded significant results (p<0.05). African leaves extract has been demonstrated to reduce the number of pain-related writhing behaviors observed in male white mice following the administration of acetic acid. The highest percentage of analgesic protection was extract with dose of 600mg/kgBW.

Abstract

Skin hyperpigmentation is a common dermatological condition characterized by excessive melanin production, primarily regulated by the enzyme tyrosinase. Natural tyrosinase inhibitors have gained increasing interest as safer alternatives to synthetic depigmenting agents. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the tyrosinase inhibitory activity of peel extracts and solvent fractions of three Citrus species: C. aurantifolia, C. microcarpa, and C. hystrix. Extraction was carried out using Soxhlet and fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. Tyrosinase inhibition was assessed using L-DOPA as the substrate. The results showed significant differences among species and fractions. The n-hexane fraction of C. hystrix exhibited the strongest activity (IC50 34.24 ppm), followed by C. microcarpa (144.05 ppm), while C. aurantifolia showed the weakest inhibitory effect across all fractions. The high potency of C. hystrix is associated with its rich monoterpene content, while lower activity in C. aurantifolia may relate to degradation of thermo-labile flavonoids during Soxhlet extraction. These findings highlight the potential of C. hystrix peel, particularly its non-polar fraction, as a promising natural tyrosinase inhibitor for cosmetic applications.
