Abstract

Kulit memiliki fungsi utama sebagai pelindung tubuh terhadap berbagai pengaruh lingkungan, termasuk radikal bebas yang dapat mempercepat terjadinya penuaan dini. Salah satu pendekatan untuk meminimalkan efek stres oksidatif pada kulit adalah dengan pemanfaatan antioksidan yang berasal dari bahan alami. Buah stroberi (Fragaria × ananassa) dikenal mengandung senyawa fenolik dengan aktivitas antioksidan yang tinggi sehingga berpotensi digunakan sebagai bahan aktif dalam produk kosmetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sediaan face mist spray berbahan dasar ekstrak buah stroberi serta menilai aktivitas antioksidannya melalui metode DPPH dan mutu sediaan yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak buah stroberi memiliki kemampuan antioksidan yang baik dan dapat diformulasikan secara stabil dalam bentuk face mist. Dengan demikian, face mist yang mengandung ekstrak buah stroberi berpotensi menjadi alternatif produk kosmetik alami untuk membantu menghambat proses penuaan dini pada kulit.

Abstract

Kesum leaves (Polygonum minus Huds.) are herbal plants with potential as natural sources of antioxidants. This study aimed to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kesum leaves using the DPPH method and to identify the types of secondary metabolites present. Extraction was performed by maceration using 70% ethanol. Phytochemical screening was conducted qualitatively, while antioxidant activity was determined based on IC₅₀ values measured using a UV–Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 517 nm, with vitamin C used as a reference standard. The results showed that the ethanol extract of kesum leaves contained alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, and steroids. The antioxidant activity test revealed that the ethanol extract had an IC₅₀ value of 7.9241 µg/mL, which was classified as having very strong antioxidant activity. In comparison, vitamin C exhibited a lower IC₅₀ value of 3.2886 µg/mL, indicating stronger antioxidant activity. These findings indicate that although the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of kesum leaves is lower than that of vitamin C, the extract still falls into the category of very strong antioxidants and has potential as a natural antioxidant source.

Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are complications of diabetes mellitus often associated with bacterial infections like Staphylococcus epidermidis. Pineapple peel is rich in secondary metabolites including flavonoids with potential antibacterial effects. This study aimed to assesss the antibacterial activity of nano spray gel made with pineapple peel extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis through in vitro testing. This research employed a laboratory experimental design using nano spray gel formulations at varying concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75% of pineapple peel extract. Flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins are confirmed by phytochemical analysis. Only the formulation with 75% demonstrated antibacterial activity effect, with an average inhibition zone of 8.61 mm (medium category). 25% and 50% formulations show no inhibition. Pure extract showed a 15.42 mm zone (strong), while the positive control (clindamycin) produced 29.69 mm (very strong) inhibition zone. PSA results indicated particle size averaged 1480 nm, exceeding the nanoemulsion standard (<500 nm). Nano spray gel with 75% pineapple peel extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis, although the particle size did not meet nanoemulsion criteria.
