Abstract

The rapidly increasing demand for air conditioning has intensified energy consumption, environmental impacts, and water use associated with conventional vapor compression cooling systems. Solar-powered absorption chillers offer a low-carbon alternative by utilizing renewable thermal energy and environmentally friendly working fluids. This paper presents a literature review on the development of solar-powered absorption chiller systems, with a focus on small-capacity, air-cooled chillers using ammonia as the working fluid. The review is structured chronologically, covering early feasibility studies through performance improvement, compact system design, and adaptation to hot and tropical climates. Compared to water-cooled systems, air-cooled configurations eliminate the use of cooling towers, thereby reducing water consumption and enabling simpler system designs, although they face challenges in heat rejection under high ambient temperatures. Ammonia–water systems show strong potential due to their high temperature tolerance, zero Global Warming Potential, and suitability for air-cooled operation. This review identifies key technological advances, major limitations, and important research gaps, particularly for applications in tropical regions such as Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the most suitable initial injection-molding condition for a polypropylene (PP) ID card holder using Autodesk Fusion. Five paired melt-temperature and mold-surface-temperature conditions were evaluated at injection times of 0.5 and 1.0 s, resulting in ten simulation cases. The contribution of this study is a multi-response screening approach before mold fabrication that simultaneously considers fill confidence, injection pressure, quality prediction, cooling time, air traps, weld lines, sink marks, and warpage. All conditions achieved fill-confidence values of 99.67–100%. P4 at 1.0 s produced the highest quality prediction of 85.81% but required 11.87 s of cooling. P2 at 1.0 s was selected as the most balanced condition, with 85.27% quality prediction, 44.98 MPa injection pressure, 4.95 s cooling time, approximately four air-trap areas, 18 weld-line faces, a 0.027 mm sink mark, and 1.736 mm warpage. These simulation results require experimental validation.

Abstract

Aktivitas manusia dan kepadatan penduduk yang tinggi berpengaruh terhadap penurunan kualitas air di kawasan permukiman padat. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi faktor penyebab penurunan kualitas air, menganalisis hubungan kepadatan penduduk dengan kualitas air, serta merumuskan upaya pengelolaan lingkungan. Penelitian menggunakan metode campuran (mixed methods) dengan teknik grab sampling, observasi, wawancara, dan penyebaran kuesioner kepada 70 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 92% responden menyatakan wilayahnya memiliki sanitasi dan drainase yang kurang memadai, sedangkan 85% responden menilai aktivitas domestik dan keterbatasan lahan memengaruhi kualitas air. Secara fisik, air tanah cenderung keruh, berbau, dan berwarna, sementara hasil pengukuran kimia menunjukkan nilai pH berada di bawah standar baku mutu air bersih. Sebaliknya, air PDAM memiliki kualitas lebih baik. Upaya perbaikan dapat dilakukan melalui peningkatan sanitasi, penerapan bio-septic tank komunal, filtrasi air sederhana, dan perluasan akses air bersih perpipaan.
