Abstract

Analysis of Idiomatic Expressions in the Movie "The Call of the Wild." The purpose of this research is to identify the different idiomatic that were used in the movie “The Call of the Wild” and to decipher their true meanings. Researchers employed the theory of McCarty and O'Dell and an idiom dictionary to address the set research topics. This study employs qualitative descriptive research techniques. Data analysis was done by reducing and displaying information to conclude. The study's conclusions are as follows: the six kinds of McCarty and O'Dell idiomatic idioms were discovered in the movie The Call of the Wild. The six categories of terms are similes idiom (7%), binomials idiom (5%), proverbs idiom (16%), euphemisms idiom (22%), cliches idiom (17%), and fixed statement idiom (33%). The most common form of idiomatic expression is a Fixed Statement idiom, the dominating idiom. On the other hand, binomial idioms are the style of idiomatic expression that The Call of the Wild uses the least. The implied meaning of idiomatic can be deduced from the context of the statement in the movie. Idioms cannot be understood in just one word or phrase, so they must be understood in one sentence or paragraph to understand the meaning of the original context.

Abstract

This study covered the idiomatic expressions used by TikTok content creators. Finding out the meaning, characteristic, and contributions of idiomatic expressions for English teaching are the goals of this study. In 12 videos, the researcher discovered 54 idioms, which the writer has examined. The methodology for this study was qualitative research. The study's data sources were the idiomatic terms used in the content that TikTok content creators addressed. The study's nonhuman instrument is a smartphone, and the researcher is its human subject. Data categorization, selection, and reading comprised the study's three steps. This study searched for type idioms using Adam Makkai's idea. Idioms can be classified as either lexemic or sememic. All of the data was lexemic. Phrasal verb idioms, tournure idioms, irreversible binomial idioms, phrasal compound idioms, and integrating verb idioms are the five different characteristic of type lexemic idioms. The Adam Makkai theory is applied in this investigation. The researchers discovered 3 incorporating verb idioms, 26 phrasal compound idioms, 4 irreversible binomial idioms, 19 tournure idioms and 2 phrasal verb idioms.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze English students' perceptions regarding the use of YouTube channels as a teaching tool for descriptive text in a seventh-grade class at SMP N 37 Semarang. Data was collected through the distribution of a questionnaire to the students. The study employed a quantitative approach, analyzing the responses obtained from the questionnaire. The findings indicate that YouTube offers numerous benefits in terms of enhancing students' writing skills and expanding their vocabulary. Furthermore, the use of YouTube as an instructional tool serves as a motivational factor and boosts students' engagement in the subject matter. The availability of visually appealing videos with subtitles provides additional support for students to comprehend the content effectively. Moreover, the accessibility of YouTube enables students to access learning materials both inside and outside the classroom, facilitating flexible and convenient learning experiences. Overall, the research underscores the positive impact of incorporating YouTube as a medium for descriptive text learning, showcasing its potential in improving students' learning outcomes and fostering their active participation in the subject.
