Abstract

Globalization and free trade have brought significant changes to various aspects of life, including education. Islamic education, as an educational system based on Islamic values, faces various serious challenges amidst the currents of globalization characterized by technological advances, economic liberalization, and cross-border cultural exchange. This study aims to analyze the main challenges of Islamic education in the era of globalization and free trade and the strategic efforts that can be made to address them. The research method used is qualitative research with a library research approach, by reviewing various literature in the form of books, scientific journals, and other relevant documents. The results show that the challenges of Islamic education include global competition for the quality of human resources and Islamic education, the response of Islamic education to the development of modern technology, the impact of moral decadence on students, materialistic orientations affecting the goals of Islamic education, and the threat of brain drain. Therefore, Islamic education is required to innovate its curriculum, strengthen character, improve the professionalism of educators, and utilize digital technology wisely to remain relevant and competitive without losing its Islamic identity.

Abstract

This study examines the legal foundation of Islamic education in Indonesia through an integrative approach between Islamic law (sharia) and positive law. The research reveals that Islamic education in Indonesia has a strong and comprehensive legal foundation consisting of two complementary dimensions: sharia law sourced from the Qur'an, Sunnah, and ijtihad methods (qiyas and istihsan), and positive law manifested in the 1945 Constitution, Law No. 20 of 2003 on the National Education System, and Government Regulation No. 55 of 2007 on Religious Education. Using qualitative methods with normative juridical approaches, this research finds that the relationship between sharia law and positive law is not contradictory but rather synergistic and harmonious. Both legal foundations work together to achieve the ultimate goal of Islamic education: forming insan kamil (complete human beings) who are faithful, pious, noble in character, intelligent, and competent. This study contributes to understanding how Islamic education in Indonesia successfully integrates religious values with national education systems, creating a unique model that can serve as a reference for other Muslim-majority countries. The findings show that this legal integration not only guarantees the existence of Islamic education but also provides space for innovation and development while maintaining Islamic authenticity.

Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia has developed in various forms and models influenced by social, cultural, political, and national education policy dynamics. This diversity has given rise to differences in the characteristics of Islamic education provided by formal, non-formal, and informal institutions. This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the Islamic education system in Indonesia by examining aspects of educational objectives, curriculum, learning methods, and its contribution to the formation of students' personalities. The method used is a literature study by analyzing various relevant scientific sources, including books, journals, and educational policy documents. The results of the study show that Islamic education in Indonesia has advantages in strengthening moral and spiritual values, but still faces challenges in integrating modern science and technology. Differences in approach between Islamic boarding schools, madrasas, and Islamic public schools show variations in educational orientation and learning outcomes. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that strengthening the synergy between Islamic education models is necessary to create an adaptive, competitive education system that remains based on Islamic values.

Abstract

This research addresses the modern debate between Islam and secularism regarding religious freedom and the role of religion in the state. The purpose of this study is to clarify misunderstandings held by secular scientists about Islam and to improve the understanding of religion’s role in public life. Utilizing a descriptive- comparative approach through literature review, this study examines definitions from various figures and Islamic sources. The results indicate that Islam and secularism are fundamentally different and often contradictory concepts. Islam is a comprehensive (syumul) and perfect (kaffah) religion that regulates all aspects of life, including law and politics. Conversely, secularism separates religion from the state and limits it to the private sphere. While countries like Indonesia adopt a unique system that blends these elements, the study concludes that secularism opposes the implementation of Sharia. To resolve these tensions, secularists are encouraged to study Islam from its original sources, namely the Quran and Hadith.

Abstract

Islamic education in the contemporary era faces the challenge of dualism between revelation-based education and science-based education. This research aims to comparatively dissect the models of Islamic education in three countries with distinct socio-political characteristics: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Turkey. The primary issue addressed is how curriculum integration is implemented and to what extent state authority influences the independence of Islamic educational institutions. The research method employed is qualitative with a descriptive comparative study approach through library research data collection techniques. The findings indicate that Indonesia implements a pluralistic-decentralized model through the dichotomy of Madrasahs and Integrated Islamic Schools; Malaysia applies an integrative-centralized model that rigidly incorporates religious education into the national curriculum; while Turkey utilizes a functionalist model through Imam Hatip Schools that bridge Islamic values within a secular state framework. The conclusion of this study asserts that the success of Islamic education in various countries is determined not only by curricular content but also by the system's ability to adapt to political policies and global labor market demands.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology (IT) in the digital era has brought significant changes to the educational landscape, including the teaching and learning of Islamic Religious Education (IRE). This research aims to examine the forms, utilization, and impacts of IT-based Islamic educational media in supporting IRE learning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature review of relevant sources discussing interactive multimedia, instructional videos and animations, e-learning platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), and social media within the context of Islamic education. The findings indicate that the integration of IT-based media enhances the effectiveness of IRE learning by providing more interactive, contextual, and learner-centered instructional experiences that align with the characteristics of digital-native students. Interactive multimedia and instructional videos facilitate the visualization of abstract religious concepts, while e-learning platforms and AI support flexible, adaptive, and efficient learning processes. In addition, social media plays a significant role in expanding access to Islamic learning and digital da’wah. However, the use of information technology also poses potential negative impacts on students’ character development and lifestyle if not accompanied by adequate supervision and digital literacy. Therefore, the utilization of information technology in Islamic education must be guided wisely to not only improve instructional quality but also strengthen Islamic values and character formation.

Islamic education is an integral part of Indonesia’s national education system and plays an important role in shaping individuals who are faithful, pious, and possess noble character. This study aims to examine the foundations of Islamic education in Indonesia from theological and juridical perspectives, as well as to understand the objectives and functions of Islamic education within the framework of building a just and progressive nation. The method employed is library research, analyzing primary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, statutory regulations, and relevant scholarly literature.
