Abstract

This study examines the relationship between Physical Literacy (PL) and mental well-being among university students, with physical activity functioning as a mediating variable through the Embodied Cognition framework. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 195 active students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Education at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Bandung. Data were collected using the Student Physical Literacy Questionnaire, the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF), and the Student Well-being Scale. Mediation analysis was performed using PROCESS Macro for SPSS version 4.2, Model 4. Results revealed that PL significantly predicts physical activity (β = 0.27, p < 0.005), and both PL and physical activity significantly influence mental well-being (β = 0.21 and β = 0.36 respectively, p < 0.005). The total effect of PL on mental well-being was 0.40 (p < 0.005), consisting of a direct effect of 0.27 (67.5%) and an indirect effect through physical activity of 0.13 (32.5%). Bootstrap confidence intervals (0.06-0.21) confirmed significant partial mediation. The findings affirm the embodied cognition perspective, suggesting that physical literacy plays an essential role in promoting mental well-being both directly and through  physical activity. This study provides empirical evidence for integrating physical literacy development into mental health promotion strategies within higher education contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the process of character formation through silat activities based on the experience of an elementary school student named Raihan. Character education is the main goal of national education; however, its implementation in practice often emphasizes academic achievement rather than the internalization of values through real experiences. This study uses a qualitative approach with a single case study design to analyze how discipline, responsibility, and social maturity develop through long-term engagement in structured silat practice. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with coaches and parents, participatory observation during training and competitions, and documentation in the form of training schedules and activity notes. The results show that discipline is developed through consistent attendance, time management, and adherence to training structures. Responsibility grows through the habituation of equipment preparation, participation in maintaining training facilities, and the execution of mentoring duties. Social maturity emerges through Raihan’s role as an assistant coach, which requires behavior management, emotional control, and leadership in social interactions. Family support and the silat community environment strengthen the continuity of the character formation process by fostering emotional stability and consistent habituation of positive attitudes. This research confirms that character formation occurs through a continuous and integrated experiential process within a supportive social ecosystem. Silat activities thus have strong potential as a medium for character education rooted in cultural practices among elementary school–age children.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the physical fitness level of students participating in cricket extracurricular activities and to analyze the relationship between participation level and physical fitness at SDN Petukangan Utara 07 Pagi, South Jakarta. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 30 students from grades III to VI, selected based on their attendance during data collection. The research instruments included a participation questionnaire consisting of 20 Likert-scale items and the Indonesian Student Fitness Test (Tes Kebugaran Pelajar Nusantara / TKPN), which measures Body Mass Index (BMI), V Sit and Reach, Sit-Up, Squat Thrust, and Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER). Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using Pearson correlation test with SPSS version 25 after meeting normality and linearity assumptions. The results showed that the average TKPN score was 2.91, categorized as moderate. The correlation test yielded r = 0.859 with p < 0.05, indicating a very strong and significant relationship between cricket extracurricular participation and students' physical fitness. In conclusion, participation in cricket extracurricular activities contributes 73.8% to the physical fitness of elementary school students.
