Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of agility training incorporating core stability and shadow training incorporating core stability on the improvement of badminton footwork at the Riau Specialised Sports School (SKO). This is a quasi-experimental study, employing a “two-groups pre-test-post-test design”. The population for this study comprised 26 athletes from the Riau SKO, with the sample selected using purposive sampling: male athletes who were still active at the Riau SKO and had chosen badminton as their sport, totalling 12 male athletes aged 16-18 years. The instrument used in this study was a 30-second badminton footwork test. The data analysis techniques for hypothesis testing utilised the Paired Sample Test and the Independent Sample Test. The results of the study indicate: Firstly, there is a significant effect of agility training combined with core stability on the improvement of footwork in badminton at SKO Riau, with a significance level (2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05. Secondly, there was a significant effect of shadow training combined with core stability on the improvement of footwork in badminton at SKO Riau, with a significance level (two-tailed) of 0.003 < 0.05. Thirdly, there was no difference in the mean effect between the agility training with core stability group and the shadow training with core stability group on the improvement of footwork in badminton at SKO Riau, with a significance value (two-tailed) of 0.277 > 0.05.

Abstract

The success of athletes in competitions is not solely determined by technical skills and physical condition, but also by mental readiness. Athletes who experience high levels of stress tend to lose focus, suffer from excessive anxiety, and experience a decline in motivation, all of which negatively impact their performance. In the context of FORKI Riau karate athletes, psychological aspects are often overlooked in the preparation for national championships. Therefore, this community service program aims to assist athletes in managing stress and enhancing motivation through a sports psychology approach. The program will be carried out over six months, starting with an initial survey to measure the athletes' stress and motivation levels, as well as interviews with coaches to identify stress-triggering factors. Stress management training will then be provided using relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, mindfulness, and positive self-talk. To boost motivation, athletes will also be equipped with goal-setting strategies, confidence-building techniques, and both intrinsic and extrinsic motivational methods. The program involves active participation from athletes, coaches, and a service team consisting of one leader and six members, each with specific roles. Evaluation will be conducted through follow-up surveys and interviews to assess the impact of the training on the athletes’ mental preparedness. It is expected that this program will help athletes compete with greater confidence and focus, while also offering valuable insights for coaches on the application of sports psychology to improve athletic performance. Furthermore, the program may serve as an academic reference for further research in the fields of stress management and athlete motivation. By combining scientific methods with practical implementation, this initiative is expected to contribute to the improved performance of FORKI Riau athletes at the national level

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of karate athletes in preventing and treating sports injuries, particularly through education on injury care using the RICE method (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation). The methods used are educational and participatory, including interactive lectures, demonstrations and practical workshops on RICE, discussions and question and answer sessions, and evaluation through interviews. Participants consisted of 29 karate athletes from various clubs in Pekanbaru. The results of the activity showed enthusiasm and active participation from the participants. Based on observations and interviews, there was an increase in understanding of common types of injuries (such as sprains, bruises, muscle strains, and cramps) as well as an increase in psychomotor skills and confidence in performing first aid independently using the RICE principle. It was concluded that this sports health education programme was effective in equipping athletes with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to handle injuries, reduce the risk of severity, and support the continuity of safe training. Similar education is urgently needed given the low level of sports health literacy among novice and adolescent karate athletes
