Abstract

Communication study still has not looked at the connection between celebrity parasocial authority and the spread of viral products. When Thai K-pop star LALISA (Lalisa Manobal of BLACKPINK) officially sponsored Pop Mart's LABUBU collectibles in April 2024, sales throughout the world went up by 250% and sales in the U.S. went up by 1,200% year over year. This phenomena demonstrates how parasocial relationships may affect consumer behavior across geographic and demographic lines. This quick overview of the literature looks at how parasocial authority between celebrities and their fans leads to viral product adoption in online stores. We found peer-reviewed articles on parasocial interaction, celebrity credibility, viral marketing, and product adoption by searching Scopus, Web of Science, and Communication & Mass Media Complete. The findings were divided into groups based on processes and consequences and then put together in a story. The results show that parasocial authority may predict purchase intention and brand loyalty via social influence, aspirational identification, and trust-based persuasion. However, these effects are stronger when fandom intensity and cultural closeness are taken into account. The growth of K-pop has made intentional parasocial relationships even stronger. This shows that celebrity parasocial authority is a different way to persuade people than traditional endorsements. These results have important effects on how we understand influencer marketing and how people act in viral situations in digital culture. They show how parasocial ties may be used strategically to get people throughout the world to interact with products.

Abstract

The European Union’s December 2025 discussions on how to access frozen Russian Central Bank assets held at Euroclear was a modal point in the EU’s assessment of how to pay for Ukraine. This study analyzes the way in which Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever was able to utilize strategic political communication to effectively bury the European Commission’s proposed ‘reparations loan’ and nudge consensus towards a €90 billion joint debt financing compromise. Basing on a qualitative analysis of De Wever’s public discourses, media coverage and leaked negotiation papers, the study identifies three main communication mechanisms: legal-financial framing which presented Belgium as defender of International law and financial stability; coalition-building that grouped small and medium size member states (Italy, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Malta) around shared risk concerns; rhetorical entrenchment by use of historical allusions and metaphorical language to create psychological barriers to compromise. The findings suggest that good political communication can be a resource of real power in multilevel governance contexts, and that smaller and medium-sized states can have a disproportionate influence on crucial European policy outcomes. This is an example in action of the operation of productive power within consensus oriented institutional spaces where legal certainty and rule-of-law principles offer strategic communication opportunities. Challenging conventional IRT, the study shows that material policy effects may only result from discursive power but not from possessing material capabilities.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to examine how strategic communication can support the responsible adoption of Artificial Intelligence in Islamic financial institutions, ensuring that technological innovation remains ethically grounded, socially legitimate, and publicly trusted.  Method: This study employs a structured qualitative literature review with thematic analysis by synthesizing scholarship on Artificial Intelligence in Islamic finance, Islamic banking transparency, shariah governance disclosure, explainable Artificial Intelligence, fintech trust, and Islamic ethical perspectives.  Result: The findings show that Artificial Intelligence creates opportunities for compliance support, service modernization, institutional efficiency, and digital innovation, but also generates communication risks when institutions fail to explain how Artificial Intelligence systems operate, how decisions are reviewed, and how accountability is maintained.  Implication: This study contributes to the literature by positioning strategic communication as a constitutive component of Artificial Intelligence governance across the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages of technological adoption in Islamic financial institutions. Originality or Novelty: This study provides a distinct theoretical contribution by shifting the focus of Artificial Intelligence adoption from purely technical capabilities to a communication-centered governance paradigm, conceptualizing strategic communication not as a post-hoc promotional activity but as an active structural mechanism that directly operationalizes Maqasid al-Shariah values throughout the technology deployment lifecycle.

Abstract

Indonesia's rapid digital expansion has transformed how Muslims access religious guidance, enabling digital preachers to build asymmetrical, emotionally significant bonds with millions of followers, a phenomenon this study conceptualizes as parasocial piety. In Indonesia's plural democratic society, where religious moderation (moderasi beragama) is a national policy priority, these parasocial dynamics carry consequential implications for social cohesion, interfaith discourse, and digital religious authority. This study explains the communicative mechanisms through which parasocial piety emerges in Indonesian digital dakwah, assesses its effects on religious moderation and social cohesion, and formulates an applied religious media literacy framework as an intervention response. Using an interpretive qualitative design with an integrative literature review, the article synthesizes peer-reviewed scholarship published mainly between 2021 and 2026, covering digital dakwah, parasocial interaction and relationship theory, Digital Islam, religious moderation, and digital religious literacy. Sources were selected through systematic screening following SALSA criteria, yielding a final corpus of 44 peer-reviewed journal articles. Findings identify five platform-conditioned mechanisms, including rhythmic presence, visual authority, and commodification of piety, that jointly produce mediated religious influence capable of both supporting and weakening religious moderation and inclusive discourse. The study contributes an original three-level ethical literacy framework for creators, audiences, and institutional ecosystems, with direct relevance to religious harmony policy in Indonesia's plural digital public sphere.

Abstract

This article examines how gender is constructed, communicated, and historically transformed in Javanese wayang wong through a network of simultaneous semiotic channels. The communication phenomenon at the center of the study is the persistence of cross-gender performance in a traditional theatrical form whose meanings are shaped not only by bodily signs, costume, vocality, and spatial arrangement, but also by Javanese cosmology and changing political contexts. Using a qualitative design based on documentary research and textual analysis, the study draws on ethnographic studies, historical accounts, performance documentation, and heritage records related to wayang wong in Central Java. The analysis combines theatre semiotics, gender performativity theory, and postcolonial historical interpretation, with data organized through movement, costume, vocal, spatial, and contextual sign systems. The findings show that gender in wayang wong is communicated as an embodied cultural language rather than a fixed biological category, and that the alus/kasar cosmological framework is more decisive than the female/male binary in organizing meaning. Practically, the study supports more contextual interpretation, preservation, and performance pedagogy in traditional arts. Its limitation lies in the reliance on documentary rather than field-based audience data, while its originality lies in positioning cross-gender performance as a historically dynamic communication system grounded in local cosmology rather than merely as theatrical role reversal.

Abstract

Despite extraordinary access to consumer data and marketing tools, companies often fail to establish meaningful emotional connections with their consumers. The study explores the impact of human marketing on true brand-consumer interactions, emphasizing the need of two-way involvement via sympathetic communication. This systematic literature review suggests that transactional marketing prioritizes short-term trades over long-term relationships, contributing to the divide. The synthesis is structured around three themes: (1) neurobiological roots of empathy and emotion, (2) contrasts between transactional and relational perspectives, and (3) customer experience design as a practical representation of empathy across touchpoints. Research indicates that human marketing focuses on perspective-taking, brand vulnerability, and continuous encounters to provide value beyond sales. Emotional connection influences the relationship between empathy and loyalty, while pleasure promotes bonding. Good strategy demands changing from sales emphasis to persistent relationship value generation.

Abstract

This systematic literature review investigates how artificial intelligence transforms speaking practice in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) and English as a Second Language (ESL) contexts through an applied communication framework. Unlike prior reviews that evaluate AI-mediated speaking primarily in terms of linguistic outcomes, this study employs communicative competence theory, the willingness-to-communicate (WTC) model, and computer-mediated communication (CMC) theory as an integrated analytical lens to interpret how AI reconfigures the communicative conditions of oral language development. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, the review synthesises 37 peer-reviewed articles published between 2021 and 2026, sourced from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and ScienceDirect. Thematic synthesis generated four analytical categories: AI as a conversational partner, AI as a feedback mechanism, AI as affective support, and AI as a constrained communication environment. Findings indicate that AI-supported practice consistently enhances pronunciation, fluency, and willingness to communicate, whilst also revealing persistent limitations in pragmatic sensitivity, authentic interactional transfer, and equitable access. The principal novel contribution of this review is the conceptual framework of ‘Mediated Communicative Scaffolding’, which repositions AI not as an automated correction tool but as a structured communicative environment that prepares learners for authentic human interaction. This theoretically grounded framework offers practical guidance for integrating AI into communication-oriented speaking pedagogy.
