Abstract

Abstract

Low self-confidence constitutes a significant psychological barrier impeding students' English language learning outcomes, particularly in speaking contexts. While digitally based guidance and counseling services have emerged as promising interventions for addressing psychological challenges, empirical evidence regarding their effectiveness in enhancing self-confidence specifically for English learning remains limited, particularly in Indonesian educational contexts. This study employed a mixed-methods design combining a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group approach with phenomenological inquiry. Seventy-eight secondary school students were randomly assigned to experimental (n=38) and control (n=40) groups. The experimental group received an 8-week digital counseling intervention comprising synchronous online sessions, asynchronous messaging support, psychoeducational modules, virtual peer support groups, and self-monitoring tools. Data were collected using the Self-Confidence in English Learning Scale (SCELS) and semi-structured interviews with 14 participants. Quantitative data were analyzed using mixed-design ANOVA, while qualitative data underwent thematic analysis. The analysis revealed a significant group × time interaction effect (F(1,76)=62.71, p<.001, η²p=.452), indicating substantially greater improvement in self-confidence in the experimental group (M=+24.26) than in the control group (M=+5.17). Significant effects were observed across all subscales, with Communicative Confidence showing the largest effect (η²p=.390). Qualitative findings identified enhanced accessibility, psychological safety, skill development, and peer support as key mechanisms underlying intervention effectiveness. Digital-based counseling services significantly enhance students' self-confidence in English learning through multiple mechanisms. These findings support the integration of digital counseling platforms into school guidance programs to address affective barriers in language education.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic growth disorder that has an impact on children's physical and cognitive development. The Government of Indonesia stipulates Presidential Regulation Number 72 of 2021 concerning the Acceleration of Stunting Reduction as a national strategy that must be implemented at the village level. This study aims to analyze the implementation of stunting management program policies at Posyandu Sartika, Gamel Village, using George C. Edward III theory, which includes four variables: communication, resources, implementing disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with in-depth interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The results showed that the program had been implemented through activities such as weighing, nutrition education, and home visits. However, there are still obstacles such as the limited number of cadres, lack of advanced training, inadequate incentives, and the absence of a written SOP used as a reference for implementation. In conclusion, the implementation of the program has not been optimal in all aspects. Strengthening communication, increasing cadre capacity, providing appropriate incentives, and preparing SOPs are needed to increase the effectiveness of programs at the village level.

Abstract

Background: Indonesian migrant workers returning from overseas employment face profound psychosocial challenges during reintegration, yet systematic counseling support remains critically absent within national migration governance frameworks. Objective: This study aimed to explore personal-social adjustment difficulties experienced during reverse culture shock and develop an evidence-based counseling intervention model tailored to Indonesian cultural contexts.Method: An explanatory sequential mixed-methods design was employed, involving quantitative surveys with 187 returned migrant workers from East Java, Central Java, and West Nusa Tenggara.Findings and Implications: Findings revealed that 67.4% of returnees experienced severe adjustment difficulties across four interconnected dimensions: identity fragmentation, family relationship disruption, economic vulnerability, and social alienation, with these challenges operating as a self-reinforcing system undermining sustainable reintegration. Conclusion: This research represents the first comprehensive, theoretically grounded counseling intervention specifically designed for Indonesian returned migrant workers experiencing reverse culture shock, filling a critical gap in both scholarship and practice by integrating evidence-based psychological principles with indigenous Indonesian cultural values, Islamic spiritual perspectives, and community-based support systems, thereby establishing a replicable model for psychosocial reintegration services that can be systematically implemented across Indonesia's migrant-sending regions through government agencies, NGOs, and community institutions.

Abstract

Background: Student support services play critical roles in facilitating academic success and career development within higher education, yet a comprehensive understanding of their organisational structures, delivery models, and effectiveness across Australian institutions remains limited. Objective: This study systematically examined career counselling and academic development services across diverse Australian universities to identify factors associated with effective, accessible, and equitable service provision.Method: A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was employed across 22 institutions, integrating institutional questionnaires, surveys of 118 staff members and 4,847 students, semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and document analysis conducted over 18 months.Findings and Implications: Results revealed substantial heterogeneity in organisational structures, with student-to-staff ratios averaging 3,426:1 for career services and 2,673:1 for academic development. Appointment wait times (35.8%) and lack of service awareness (24.3%) emerged as primary barriers, while institutional factors including staffing ratios, operating hours, and delivery modalities explained 47.6% of variance in student satisfaction. International students and female students utilised services at significantly higher rates. Conclusion: Findings provide an evidence-based foundation for enhancing service accessibility, adequacy, and equity through organisational innovations, capacity enhancement, extended operating hours, and culturally responsive programming, with implications for institutional policy and sector-wide quality assurance frameworks.

Abstract

Background: Anxiety and depression are prevalent mental health challenges among adolescents, significantly affecting their academic performance, social relationships, and overall well-being. While Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an established evidence-based intervention, its effectiveness in adolescent counseling contexts requires further evaluation. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of CBT in reducing anxiety and depression symptoms among adolescents aged 12–18 years, focusing on therapeutic mechanisms, implementation modalities, and practical applications within diverse counseling contexts.Method: A systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing 23 empirical studies published between 2019 and 2025. The review examined various CBT modalities, including individual therapy, group counseling, school-based interventions, and digital platforms, evaluating methodological quality, intervention characteristics, and outcome measures.Findings and Implications: CBT demonstrated moderate to large effect sizes in reducing anxiety (Cohen's d = 0.65–0.89) and depression symptoms (Cohen's d = 0.52–0.78) among adolescents. School-based programs and digital platforms showed comparable effectiveness to traditional face-to-face therapies while offering enhanced scalability and accessibility. The findings emphasize the need for age-appropriate modifications, family involvement, and cultural adaptation in CBT implementation. Conclusion: CBT represents an effective intervention for addressing anxiety and depression in adolescents across various delivery modalities. Successful implementation requires tailored approaches considering developmental characteristics, cultural contexts, and family dynamics. Further research is needed to explore long-term treatment effects, personalized approaches, and optimal combinations of therapeutic components for diverse adolescent populations.

Abstract

This study explores the self-confidence of education professionals in using English in Cipicung District, Kuningan, West Java. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research involved 40 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via structured interviews based on four indicators: belief in one’s abilities, independent decision-making, positive self-concept, and assertiveness. The findings reveal that most participants have low speaking skills and limited vocabulary, leading to hesitation, anxiety, and a tendency toward passive communication. While listening and writing abilities were relatively stronger, speaking in English remained a major challenge. Environmental factors, lack of supportive practice opportunities, and criticism over pronunciation and word choice further affected confidence levels. Nevertheless, many participants maintain strong motivation to improve, engaging in informal strategies such as watching English films, listening to music, and using vocabulary-learning applications. The study emphasizes the need for supportive environments and consistent speaking practice to foster self-confidence and enhance English communication skills among educators and educational staff.
