Abstract

The need for low temperature storage rooms has not been fulfilled with a single refrigeration system. The problem with a single system is that vacuum pressure is needed to reach very low temperatures. The cascade refrigeration system with two HTC and LTC circuits was developed to answer the problem of low temperature space with hydrocarbon refrigerant. The research was carried out experimentally in the PLN IT Refrigeration System Laboratory. This research uses MC134-R404A and MC22-R404A refrigerant pairs, and uses a heat exchanger plate heat exchanger. From the analysis it was found that the MC22-R404A refrigerant pair had better performance COP, HRR, ratio mass than the MC134-R404A. From the research also obtained the results that the installed heat exchanger cannot work optimally. The results of this study will be very useful for developing further research in developing low temperature storage

Abstract

With the development of technological advances that are very rapid and affect the energy needs, especially electrical energy, as well as increasing demand for power plants such as PLTA, PLTU, PLTGU, PLTD, PLTD, PLTP and others must work extra for the convenience and needs of consumers. Therefore, lately it often happens that generators are experiencing problems and make the efficiency of these generators decrease, which can make consumers uncomfortable and the needs of consumers are not met to the maximum. In particular PLTG which consists of several main components, namely compressors, gas turbines, combustion chambers, and generators which in operation use equipment that has been integrated with one another. Therefore here the author tries to calculate and analyze the efficiency of the gas turbine used in the Muara Tawar PLTGU before and after the holding of the Minor Inspection with the Bryton cycle method and from that method will obtain thermal efficiency in the gas turbine. So that the Minor Inspection can actually improve the performance of the Gas Turbine by increasing the actual thermal efficiency. The results of calculations after Minor Inspection thermal efficiency has increased by 0.70%, compressor efficiency has increased 0.56%, combustion chamber efficiency has increased 0.27%, turbine efficiency has increased 1.35%.

Abstract

Indonesia has great potential to develop renewable energy, especially through Micro Hydro Power Plants (MHP) that utilize river flow. The Papua region, including Jayawijaya Regency, has significant water resources potential but has not been optimally utilized to meet local energy needs. This study aims to evaluate the technical feasibility of building an MHP in Uwe River, Jayawijaya Regency, with a capacity of 2 x 750 kW as an effort to increase the electrification ratio in Papua Mountains. The research uses a quantitative approach with field survey methods and primary data collection, such as water discharge measurements and interviews with relevant parties. The data were analyzed using the FJ Mock method for water discharge estimation and hydraulic power calculation to assess the technical feasibility of MHP development. The results showed that Uwe River has a potential hydraulic power of 2063.965 kW with a capacity factor of 88%, which is able to support the operation of two turbines with a capacity of 733.76 kW each. The conclusion of this study shows that the construction of an MHP in Sungai Uwe is technically feasible and has great potential to increase the electrification ratio, support local economic development, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels in remote areas. The implication of these results is the importance of investment and policy support in the development of renewable energy projects in Papua to achieve national electrification targets.

Abstract

To manage waste efficiently and sustainably , Integrating Algoritma Bellman-Ford in IoT-Based Control Systems for Household Waste Management Machines, the use of automation technologies based on the Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming increasingly relevant. The integration of HMI allows operators to manage and control the machine with precision and convenience. The synergy between IoT and HMI promises significant improvements in waste processing speed, accuracy, and safety. Developing a control system using the HMI method is not just a solution but an innovative approach that aims to find an effective solution in managing or destroying waste that requires less labor, so there is no need to increase assistance. The method that will be used in this research is the descriptive statistical method, namely, assessing the technical data needed to develop a control system that complies with the standard. This innovative approach is one of the solutions to the problem of labor shortages in landfills that simplify work and speed up the process of operating machines.

Abstract

Gas turbines are one type of power plant with high flexibility, but their performance is greatly affected by variations in operating load. This study aims to analyse the effect of load variations on the thermal efficiency of Gas Turbine Unit 1.2 at the Muara Karang Gas Power Plant under three load conditions, namely 70 MW, 80 MW, and 90 MW. Actual operational data was used to calculate component work (compressor, combustion chamber, and turbine) and cycle thermal efficiency using thermodynamic calculation methods based on the Brayton Cycle. The calculation results were validated using Cycle Tempo and EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software with an average deviation of <5%. The results show that thermal efficiency increases as the operating load increases. At a load of 70 MW, the thermal efficiency was recorded at 30.30%, increasing to 30.76% at a load of 80 MW, and reaching a peak of 31.72% at a load of 90 MW. These findings prove that gas turbines operate most efficiently at loads close to their maximum capacity, so that operating at optimal loads can reduce specific fuel consumption and improve the energy efficiency of the plant.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a major environmental problem in Indonesia due to its non-biodegradable nature. One innovative solution is converting waste into energy using Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) briquettes for small-scale power generation. This research designed and tested an RDF-based micro power plant prototype using briquettes composed of 80% dry organic biomass and 20% plastic for safe and stable combustion. The prototype consists of a combustion chamber, heat exchanger, impulse-type micro steam turbine driven by low-pressure steam, and a 12V low-speed DC generator. Performance was evaluated through temperature, voltage, current, power output, and efficiency measurements. The highest performance was achieved using 500 g of RDF, producing 0.02 A, 0.7 V, and 0.014 W at 135°C over 20 minutes, with an efficiency of 2.69×10⁻⁶%. Although efficiency was very low, the study demonstrates proof-of-concept feasibility and provides a baseline for future optimization of thermal and energy conversion efficiency.

Abstract

Agar solid waste (ASW) is a silica-rich industrial residue generated during agar extraction that contains organic residue mixed with mineral filtration aids such as Celite (diatomaceous earth) and perlite. Its high ash content and low organic fraction limit its direct utilization as a biomass-derived fuel. This study investigated hydrofluoric acid (HF) leaching as a demineralization pretreatment to reduce silica-rich minerals and improve the physicochemical quality of ASW. Two ASW samples obtained from different agar-processing plants, namely ASW-Celite (contain Celite) and ASW-Perlite (contain perlite), were treated using 10 wt% HF at a solid-to-liquid ratio of approximately 1:12. The treated samples were characterized using XRF, ICP-MS, FTIR, ultimate analysis, and proximate analysis. HF leaching caused substantial mass reduction, with solid yields of 24.99% for ASW-Celite-HF and 48.9% for ASW-Perlite-HF. Ash content decreased from 85.84 to 44.99 wt% in ASW-Celite and from 77.10 to 24.83 wt% in ASW-Perlite. XRF analysis confirmed significant silica removal, particularly in ASW-Celite, where SiO₂ decreased from 96.94 to 21.30%. ICP-MS further showed the reduction of several ash-forming and environmentally relevant elements, including Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, P, S, Cl, Mn, and Fe. HF treatment also enriched the organic fraction, increasing carbon content from 4.69 to 12.52 wt% in ASW-Celite and from 9.83 to 16.10 wt% in ASW-Perlite. The HHV of ASW-Celite improved from 1.91 to 6.52 MJ/kg, whereas ASW-Perlite decreased from 4.80 to 3.19 MJ/kg due to its high oxygen content after treatment. These findings demonstrate that HF leaching effectively reduces silica-rich minerals in ASW, although further deoxygenation is required to improve its fuel quality for bioenergy applications.
