Abstract Low information literacy and the dominance of passive learning strategies (rote learning) are fundamental problems at MAN 1 Sarolangun, as evidenced by low student competency assessment scores in the basic category. This community service program aims to solve this problem by strengthening independent learning strategies through mastery of information literacy and effective note-taking techniques (smart note-taking). The implementation method of the activity is a participatory workshop for educators that integrates three stages of intervention: (1) training in searching for credible information, (2) application of the structured note-taking method Cornell Notes, and (3) training in visual idea organization using Mind Mapping. The program evaluation showed significant results: educators’ conceptual understanding increased significantly, with the percentage of correct answers on the post-test reaching 100% for key topics. In addition, an “Integrated Independent Learning Workflow” was formed that increased the partners’ self-efficacy. This intervention successfully improved partners’ hard skills (note-taking techniques) and soft skills (learning independence), supporting the achievement of the university’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
