Abstract

Financial literacy is an important skill that needs to be introduced from an early age so that children are able to manage their finances wisely in the future. Children's storybooks are a potential medium for installing the concept of financial literacy in a contextual manner that is appropriate for children's cognitive development. Current research focuses heavily on financial literacy in print books, teaching materials, and other media. Research on financial literacy in online media remains limited. The purpose of this study is to describe financial literacy and identify forms of financial literacy in children's storybooks for early readers at levels B1, B2, and B3 at SIBI Kemendikbud. This study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis. The data sources were two children's storybooks, namely Tiup! Tiup! (level B2) and Ini atau Itu? (level B3). The research instruments were compiled based on financial literacy indicators, which included earning money, saving, spending, donating, managing finances, and distinguishing between needs and wants. The results of the study show that the book Tiup! Tiup! emphasizes the aspects of saving, spending in a planned manner, and simple financial management, but does not yet show the process of earning money and donating. Meanwhile, the book Ini atau Itu? contains more diverse financial literacy indicators, including earning money through business and the ability to distinguish between needs and wants. Neither book explicitly includes the aspect of giving. These results underscore the importance of developing children's storybooks that not only present engaging narratives but also integrate financial literacy in a balanced way appropriate to the child's stage of development.

Abstract

Abstract. Male fertility plays an important role in reproductive capability and global population dynamics. Male infertility can be caused by lifestyle, health conditions, and sperm quality. This research develops a male fertility classification model with an optimized K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm using Information Gain feature selection and hyperparameter tuning with GridSearchCV. The main problems encountered are low accuracy in prediction and high computational complexity due to many irrelevant features. To overcome this, feature selection and hyperparameter optimization methods were used. The dataset used in this research comes from the UCI Machine Learning Repository, consisting of 100 data with 10 attributes. The KNN algorithm was chosen for its simplicity and ability to classify data with multiple classes and uneven distribution. However, its accuracy is highly dependent on the proper selection of features and parameters. The Information Gain method is used for selection of significant features against the target variable, reducing model complexity and computation time. Hyperparameter tuning is performed using GridSearchCV to find the best combination of parameters. The results showed that the application of Information Gain and GridSearchCV successfully improved the classification accuracy of KNN. The final model achieved 94% accuracy, better than the previous conventional method which only reached 84%. This increase in accuracy shows that KNN optimization with this approach is effective in improving male fertility classification performance. This research is expected to contribute to the development of male fertility diagnostic technology and the implementation of more accurate prediction models in clinical practice. Purpose: The proposed model is a development based on previous research that focuses on developing the K-Nearest Neighbor algorithm with a model accuracy of 84%. this study uses feature selection techniques and hyperparameter tuning in the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm to improve the accuracy of the male fertility classification model. Methods/Study design/approach: To improve the curation of the male fertility classification model and to optimize the model from previous research, this study uses the feature selection technique and hyperparameter tuning technique. For this technique, 2 types of optimization are carried out, namely feature selection using Information Gain and GridSearchCV hyperparameter tuning to get the best parameter combination for the proposed model. The fertility dataset has also been used in previous studies, used in this study.   Result/Findings: The proposed model obtained a high accuracy of 94%, which surpassed the model in the previous study which had an accuracy of 85% for the classification of fertility levels in men.  Novelty/Originality/Value: The novelty in this research is the addition of hyperparameter tuning techniques to optimize and obtain optimal parameters in the fertility classification model. This research also aims to improve and increase the accuracy of the previous model.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the complex role of information overload in shaping academic achievement within digital learning environments, with a specific focus on Libyan higher education. Drawing on data from 205 undergraduate students and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the study investigates both the direct and indirect effects of information overload through cognitive load and self-regulated learning (SRL). The findings reveal a dual and nuanced effect. Information overload exerts a significant negative direct impact on academic achievement by increasing cognitive load and disrupting attentional processes. At the same time, it demonstrates a positive indirect effect by stimulating self-regulated learning, which partially offsets its adverse cognitive consequences. Cognitive load emerges as a key mediator that amplifies the negative pathway, while self-regulated learning functions as an adaptive mechanism that enhances academic performance. These results contribute to the literature by integrating Cognitive Load Theory and self-regulated learning within a unified empirical framework, highlighting the conditional nature of information overload in educational settings. Rather than being purely detrimental, information overload operates as a double-edged phenomenon, with its impact depending on students’ capacity to regulate their learning processes. Practically, the study underscores the need for higher education institutions—particularly in resource-constrained contexts—to move beyond information provision toward developing students’ digital literacy and self-regulation skills. Such interventions are essential for mitigating cognitive overload and fostering sustainable academic achievement in increasingly complex digital environments.
