Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the intricate drivers of purchase intention in the competitive Indonesian cosmetics market, focusing on Scarlett Whitening products. We examine how halal labeling, perceived information quality, and endorser credibility influence purchase intention, with brand trust acting as a crucial mediating variable. Method/approach: Employing a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data were collected from 115 Scarlett Whitening product users in Kefamenanu City, Indonesia, using purposive sampling. Cross-sectional survey design with self-administered questionnaires was utilized, and data analysis was conducted using SmartPLS 4.0 with 5,000 bootstrap resamples. Findings: Results reveal that halal labeling (β = 0.334, p < 0.001) and perceived information quality (β = 0.139, p < 0.05) significantly and positively influence purchase intention. Both variables also substantially enhance brand trust (halal labeling: β = 0.473, p < 0.001; information quality: β = 0.197, p < 0.05), which in turn powerfully predicts purchase intention (β = 0.707, p < 0.001). Brand trust significantly mediates the effects of both halal labeling (β_indirect = 0.334, p < 0.001) and information quality (β_indirect = 0.139, p = 0.006) on purchase intention. Conversely, endorser credibility showed no significant impact on either brand trust (β = 0.064, p = 0.052) or purchase intention (β = 0.042, p = 0.058). The model explains substantial variance in brand trust (R² = 0.52) and purchase intention (R² = 0.74). Limitations: Cross-sectional design limits causal inference; geographic specificity (Kefamenanu City) and single-brand focus (Scarlett Whitening) may limit generalizability. Future research should employ longitudinal designs, multi-city sampling, and examine multiple product categories and endorser types to establish temporal precedence and boundary conditions. Implications: Resources should be prioritized toward securing halal certifications and fostering positive online review ecosystems rather than over-investing in celebrity endorsements that may no longer yield significant returns in Muslim-majority emerging markets. Brands should reallocate marketing budgets from expensive celebrity contracts to trust-building initiatives. Contribution: This study demonstrates the primacy of intrinsic trust signals (halal certification and user-generated content) over celebrity marketing in Muslim-majority emerging markets, clarifying mediation mechanisms through which marketing signals operate and identifying boundary conditions for source credibility theory in digital-era consumer contexts.

Abstract

Background:  There are challenges in journalism today, including misinformation, low-level news literacy, and declining interest in traditional news formats. To respond to the challenges, this article reports an applied study project about Arya, an AI-driven chatbot designed to convey factual information through conversational and interactive storytelling. Purpose: This research explores the feasibility, user acceptance, and indications of Arya’s communicative potential in supporting a personalized, engaging, and verifiable news consumption experience. Methods: The project employed an approach so-called Design Science Research (DRS) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) to ensure the use of theories of anthropomorphism, parasocial interaction, and artificial communication in enhancing engagement and trust through adaptive human-like traits. Results: It is found that Arya may facilitate more personalized and engaging news experiences. Users respond positively to a conversational approach that blends storytelling and Q&A. However, some limitations were found in terms of scope, adaptability, and naturalness. Conclusion: Chatbot designs for conveying factual information need to incorporate anthropomorphism to enhance users’ trust and comfort during interactions. It is not only about technical efforts but also the need to design communication methods that feel human and consistent. Nevertheless, accuracy and transparency are priorities, especially for journalists. Implications: Combining rule-based logic, LLMs, and RAG can be a strategy for more verifiable communication. Furthermore, the application of anthropomorphism and parasocial interaction principles could strengthen engagement, but it should be balanced with flexibility, knowledge, and dialogue quality to make the system more natural and resilient.

Abstract

The accelerated digital transformation of human resource management has intensified the need for integrated systems capable of monitoring and evaluating employee performance in a systematic and data-driven manner. This study aims to examine the development trajectories, implementation patterns, and effectiveness of Employee Performance Management Information Systems (EPMIS) across diverse organizational settings. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this research adheres to the PRISMA framework to ensure methodological rigor, transparency, and replicability. Data were collected from major academic databases, resulting in the selection of 30 empirical studies published between 2021 and 2026, which were subsequently analyzed using qualitative synthesis techniques. The findings demonstrate that the adoption of EPMIS contributes significantly to enhanced transparency, accountability, and administrative efficiency in both public and private sector organizations. Additionally, these systems facilitate objective and continuous performance evaluation through real-time data integration, thereby positively influencing employee motivation and work discipline. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of EPMIS implementation is contingent upon several moderating factors, including the availability of adequate technological infrastructure, the level of digital literacy among users, and the extent of organizational readiness for digital transformation. Challenges in these areas may hinder optimal system utilization and reduce overall impact. In conclusion, EPMIS represents a strategic instrument for improving employee performance management; however, its successful implementation requires comprehensive organizational support, continuous capacity building, and alignment between technological systems and human resource competencies.

Abstract

The low quality of governance of Hindu houses of worship in Indonesia, particularly regarding the uncertainty of legality and certification of land assets, has become a crucial issue that threatens the physical existence of holy places from the risk of land disputes and third-party claims. This policy paper aims to formulate a strategy for governance transformation by strengthening the digital administration system to ensure legal certainty for religious assets. The policy methodology used in this study is a qualitative-descriptive approach with multi-criteria analysis (MCA) techniques and the William N. Dunn scoring method, which evaluates various regulatory alternatives based on aspects of effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability. Based on the analysis results, this paper recommends the urgency of establishing a Minister of Religious Affairs Regulation on the Integrated Hindu Asset Management Information System (SIMA-H) as an instrument for integrating spatial and legal data capable of mitigating the risk of disputes preventively. The implementation of this policy is supported by theoretical support for stewardship and certainty of agrarian law, and requires institutional synergy through strengthening the legal literacy of house of worship managers. The scoring results indicate that digitizing asset management is the most responsive step in addressing data disparities and the weakness of traditional documentation that has been based on oral tradition.

Abstract

The era of digital disruption has transformed patterns of public communication while simultaneously creating new challenges for information openness, particularly the rise of disinformation, the acceleration of information flows, and growing public demands for fast and accessible services. In this context, the Communication and Informatics Office of North Sumatra Province plays a strategic role as the manager of public communication and the main Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) at the provincial level. This study aims to analyze the communication strategy of the North Sumatra Provincial Communication and Informatics Office in improving the Public Information Openness Index (IKIP) in the era of digital disruption. This study employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, using primary data from structural officials and related implementers, as well as secondary data from institutional documents and official sources. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings show that the communication strategy emphasized the digitalization of public information services through an integrated online one-stop system, the strengthening of Open Data Sumut, metadata-based information management, multichannel public communication, and a more human-centered and responsive narrative approach. However, the implementation of this strategy still faces several challenges, including the gap between bureaucratic procedures and digital public expectations, inter-agency consistency, and local political dynamics that affect IKIP achievement. This study concludes that improving public information openness in the digital era requires the integration of technological innovation, legal certainty, and adaptive two-way public communication

Abstract

Work stress is an occupational health problem experienced by many health workers and service sector workers, with an impact on performance, job satisfaction, and mental health. Studies have shown that work stress is not only influenced by workload, but also by the quality of education, information and communication (EIC), as well as self-disclosure skills  in the work environment. Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) in the context of health is an interactive message delivery process aimed at changing the understanding, attitudes, and health behaviours of the message recipients. Its main goal is to improve health literacy and healthy decision-making. This article aims to examine the relationship between EIC, self-disclosure ability, and work stress based on published research results. The method used is a literature review of relevant national and international articles. The literature was searched through health and human resource management journals, focusing on the variables of educational communication, self-openness, support from superiors and colleagues, and work stress levels. The results showed that 60–75% of articles reported that work stress was in the medium to high category, especially in workers with limited access to information and ineffective communication. About 55–70% of studies show that low self-disclosure skills  are associated with increased work stress, interpersonal conflict, and emotional exhaustion. In contrast, more than 65% of studies reported that educational interventions, two-way communication, as well as employer support were associated with reduced work stress, with a decrease in stress scores ranging from 15–30% after communication or training interventions. A work environment that encourages openness and supportive communication is also associated with an increase in job satisfaction of up to 20–25%.In conclusion, effective education and communication, along with strengthening self-disclosure skills, play an important role in managing work stress. This approach has the potential to be a promotive and preventive strategy in occupational health programs, especially in the service and health sectors.
