Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the highest cause of mortality in Indonesia. One of the factors that causes the disease is low level of health awareness, including healthy lifestyle and health control. Improving public health awareness can be done by providing health education in collaboration with interprofessional health services. A collaboration involving students from various health-related disciplines aims to build good collaboration in the future after the corresponding students become health workers. This study is quasi-experimental. Students from health-related disciplines, especially pharmacy and medical students, were authorized to work directly in health screening and to provide education to the community. Students perceptions on the Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) program were explored through Student Perceptions of Physician-Pharmacist Interprofessional Clinical Education (SPICE) questionnaire, which were given before and after the community project. Among 87 SPICE questionnaires, 78 questionnaires filled in completely were collected from pharmacy and medical students. The results of the questionnaire showed good perceptions before and after activities in the community with mean scores of 4.46 (0.35) and 4.5 (0.37) respectively. Wilcoxon test results found no significant difference on the total SPICE scores before and after the activity (P .05). One item from the SPICE questionnaire, which was the seventh item related to understanding the role of other professionals in the interdisciplinary team, had a significant increase (P .05).

Abstract

Antihypertensive therapy requires adherence therapy to achieve therapeutic targets such as controlling blood pressure both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Pharmacists in counseling interventions have been developed in the form of brief Counseling - 5A and SMS reminders. But the relationship between adherence and blood pressure control is still studied and both of them are related to many factors that can affect. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of the level of compliance antihypertensive therapy and control of blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) hypertension patients in outpatient PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul, Yogyakarta who get Brief counseling - 5A and SMS motivation.Patients who met the inclusion criteria were divided into 2 groups, the treatment group (n = 30) who received Brief counseling - 5A and SMS motivation, and the control group (n = 30) who received usual care (conventional counseling). Data were collected by interviews using questionnaires compliance of Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS), the value of blood pressure is taken from the medical record. Correlation between level of adherence and blood pressure control have been analyzed using Fisher test. The results showed the treatment group with categories adherent patients (n=25) was increase in blood pressure control by 36.67% compared with the control group of patients adherent category (n=6) only 6.67% that has control of the blood pressure on post study. In contrast to patient with adherent category, who had uncontrolled blood pressure are 46.67% (treatment group) compared to the control group 13.33% on the post study. Patients categories of non-adherent but is having control of blood pressure showed 3.33% (treatment group) and 26.67% (control group) on the post study. Although the rate of compliance in the treatment group was higher than control group on the second visit, but there was no significant relation between the level of compliance and controlling blood pressure both in control group (p=1.000) and intervention group (p=0.622) on the second visit (post). The rate of compliance and blood pressure control of patients with hypertensive was low. There were many factors such as poor of knowledge, drugs side effect, poly pharmacy, which related with level of compliance. There was no correlation between antihypertensive compliance and blood pressure control in hypertensive patients ambulatory PKU Muhammadiyah Bantul Hospital, who get Brief counseling 5A and SMS motivation. Therefore it is necessary to do further research to identify factors that influence to improve patients awareness in the management of hypertension.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the diseases that annually shows an increase. An increase of DM prevalence will follow the increasing diabetic ulcers complication. Cholesterol could influence to create ulcer through atherosclerosis process. Ratio of total cholesterol/HDL is an important predictor to detect early risk of vascular complication in type 2 DM patients that can manifest as diabetic ulcers. This study aims to know whether there is any difference in the Total Cholesterol/HDL-C Ratio in type-2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers and without diabetic ulcers. This study was an analytic observational with cross-sectional approach. Data collection was done using the purposive sampling with a sample size of 30 patients of diabetes mellitus with diabetic ulcers and 30 patients without diabetic ulcers. The data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney. The median results in Total cholesterol/HDL-C ratio between Type-2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers and without diabetic ulcers were 6.025 and 3.680 respectively. The median of cholesterol total/HDL-C ratio Type-2 DM patients with diabetic ulcers was higher than those without diabetic ulcers. Mann-Whitney showed the value of P = 0.000, so that this study found a significant difference. In conclusion, the ratio of total cholesterol/HDL-C in type-2 DM patients with diabetic ulcer was significantly higher than type-2 DM patients without diabetic ulcers in Bethesda Hospital, Yogyakarta.

Abstract

Lycopene is one of the famous ingredients in tomatoes, because of its important role as a potent anti-oxidant. Besides being consumed as fresh fruit, tomato paste can be combined with probiotic fermented milk to increase its health benefits. Probiotics are lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which when consumed in sufficient quantities will benefit health. Probiotic fermented milk is reported to have various properties including anti-microbial, antioxidant, immunomodulatory and anti-cancer, so the combination with tomato paste is expected to increase its benefits for health. This research aimed to study the effect of probiotic fermented milk on the content of tomato paste lycopene. Lactobacillus acidophillus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, and Lactobacillus casei were used as mixed probiotic cultures. It was found that at the ratio of 2:8 for the LAB fermented milk and tomato paste, the highest lycopene drive was obtained by spectrophotometric measurement at 663, 645, 505, and 453 nm. Determination of the lycopene content was performed according to the Nagata and Yamashita simple methods. In addition, the lycopene content in the LAB fermented milk-tomato paste was greater than the content in the tomato paste without fermented milk addition and was tested stable after storage for 14 days.
