Abstract

                                            Abstrak Penelitian ini membahas tentang analisis kohesi dan koherensi pada wacana dalam hal ini novel.tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu menganalisis kohesi gramatikal, kohesi leksikal dan koherensi dalam novel Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong karya Tere Liye. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode identifikasi data selanjutnya mengklasifikasi data apa saja yang sesuai dengan pembahasan. Hasil analisis Kohesi gramatikal dalam novel Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong yaitu :Referensi,Substitusi,Elipsis,dan Konjungsi. Kohesi leksikal yaitu : Repetisi, Sinonim,Antonim,Homonim dan yang menjadi koherensi yakni hubungan sebab-akibat, alasan-sebab, sarana-hasil,syarat-hasil dan perbandingan.Kata kunci : kohesi gramatikal,kohesi leksikal,koherensi, novel Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong                                               Abstract This study discusses the analysis of cohesion and coherence in discourse in this case novel. The aim of this study is to analyze grammatical cohesion, lexical cohesion and coherence in the novel “Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong by Tere Liye”. This study uses the data identification method and then classifies what data is suitable for the discussion. The results of grammatical cohesion analysis in “Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong”, are: Reference, Substitution, Ellipsis, and Conjunction.Lexical cohesion, namely: repetition, synonym, antonym, homonin and coherence, namely the combination of cause-effect, reason-cause, means-result, condition-result and comparison.Keywords : Grammatical cohesion, Lexical cohesion,coherence ,novel “Ayahku (Bukan) Pembohong

Abstract

                                          ABSTRACTThe title of this research is “Deiksis Persona dalam Film Pride and Prejudice Karya Joe Wright (Analisis Pragmatik)”. This study is an attempt to describe, classify, and analyze person deixis found in the film Pride and Prejudice. The aim of this research is to identify, classify the type and analyze the function of person deixis used in the film. This research uses descriptive method and pragmatic analysis. The data of deixis have been taken from the sentences in the film Pride and Prejudice and analyzed them by using Levinson’s theory. The types of person deixis are: first person deixis, second person deixis, and third person deixis. The result of this study shows that person deixis in this film are first person deixis: I, me, my, mine, we, our, us; second person deixis: you, your, yours; and third person deixis: they, their, them, it, he, his, him, she, her.Keywords: Person deixis, Pragmatic Analysis, Film Pride and Prejudice

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT     This research attempts to describe and analyze the kinship terms of English and Mori Language (Analysis Contrastive). English and Mori language are two different groups of language which have specific patterns of kinship terminologies. Both languages have a special set of terms to indicate the kinship relations. This research aims to compare and contrast the analysis between English and Mori Language and using Lado’s (1957) concept as well as using descriptive method by Burling (1971) in which the kinship terms are characterized as “consanguinal” and “afinal.” The writer also used the method of Wardaugh, Burling and Loundsburry quoted in Leech to find out the similarities and differences between the languages. The data of English were collected from several relevant text books, and severalreliable sources from the internet, and the data of Mori Language were collected from informants through interview. The result of this research shows that both English and Mori Language have similarities in terms of sex, generation and lineage. The difference is that the English kinship terms give distinctions on the sex of all the relatives of in ego, while Morilanguage only has on severalrelatives of in ego. In generation, both of this languages have same generation such as four generations above and below ego.Keywords: Kinship terms of English and Mori Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                           AbstractThe research is entitled “Obedience in the Film The Book of Daniel Produced by Pure Flix Entertaiment”. It is written to fulfill the requirement of accomplishing bachelor’s degree in English department Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University. The focus of this research is obedience in the film the Book of Daniel, which is reflected in the character of Daniel. The aims of this research are to identify, classify and analyze the theme in the Film the Book of Daniel through the characters. The writer uses the theory of Grace (2009) to analyze the major theme in the Film The Book of Daniel through the character and plot, and Martin (1995) as theory of religious film as a hagiopic genre, which tells the life of someone as a hero of religion. The writer also uses the theory of Klarer (1998) to analyze of the film. In addition, the writer also uses the theory of Weiss (1998, to analyze the obedience expressied in the film. The result of this research shows the 7 types of obedience action. The 7 types of obedience are, obedience eats certain foods, obedience to prayer, obedience listening, ethical obedience, obedience in patience, obedience in loyalty only to God, obedience in accepting punishment. Abstract

                                              ABSTRACTS     This study is an attempt to describe, identify, classify, and analyze modal verbs in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon. Modal is a verb that combines with another verb to indicate modal or tense. A modal expresses necessity, ability, permission, possibility, necessary, willingness, and others.The problem of this study is to find out the forms and meanings of modals in the novel The Stars Shine Down by Sidney Sheldon. The method which used in this study is descriptive method.The data of modals are collected from the sentences found in the novel. The theory which used is taken from Beaumont and Granger. The result shows that there are seven forms of method found in the novel, namely can, could, may, should, will, and would.The meanings of modals are: can, ability, permission, possibility, and offering. Could expresses possibility, ability, disabilty. Will expresses request. Would expresses polite request. Abstract

                                               ABSTRAK     Penelitian ini membahas mengenai Sejarah Gereja Masehi Advent Hari Ketujuh di desa Pinaling 1946-2012. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan awal masuknya GMAHK-7 di Pinaling dari tahun 1946-2012. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu: Metode Heuristik, Kritik dan Analisa, Interpretasi, dan Historiografi. Berdasarkan analisis yang dilakukan, simpulan dari penelitian ini yakni: dari latar belakang awal masuknya Gereja Masehi Advent Hari Ketujuh atau disingkat GMAHK-7 di desa Pinaling pada tahun 1946, tentunya Jemaat Tumpaan mempunyai peranan dan pengaruh penting dalam muncul Advent di desa Pinaling , karena Jemaat Tumpaan yang memiliki inisiatif membuat peribadatan cabang di desa Pinaling dan karena mereka melihat ada simpatisan, maka mereka mengundang Pdt. Walean untuk membuat ceramah 60 malam dan menghasilkan 3 jiwa pertama. Dan pekabaran berlanjut dengan dibuat ceramah oleh Pdt. Manemba dan menghasilkan 9 jiwa dibaptis dan akhirnya di desa Pinaling memiliki 12 anggota Advent pertama. Perkembangan Jemaat yang mengalami pemekaran dari Jemaat Pondang pada tanggal 5 April 2012. Jemaat Pondang yang sebagian besar anggotanya dari Jemaat Pinaling yang dimekarkan di Jemaat Pondang, dan pada saat itu juga lewat komite Jemaat Pinaling mengusulkan ke daerah Konferen Minahasa untuk mengubah nama dari Jemaat Pinaling menjadi Pioner Pinaling. __________________________________________________________Kata Kunci : Karya Gereja Masehi Advent Hari Ketujuh,1946-2012                                                 ABSTRACT     This research discusses the history of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Pinaling village 1946-2012. The purpose of this study is to describe the entry of the GMAHK-7 in Pinaling from 1946-2012. The methods used in this research are: Heuristic Method, Criticism and Analysis, Interpretation, and Historiography. Based on the analysis carried out, the conclusions of this study are: from the background of the initial entry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church or abbreviated as GMAHK-7 in Pinaling village in 1946, of course the Tumpaan Congregation has an important role and influence in the emergence of Advent in Pinaling village, because the Congregation Tumpaan who had the initiative to make a branch service in Pinaling village and because they saw sympathizers, they invited Pdt. Walean to make a 60-night lecture and produce the first 3 souls. And the message continued with a lecture by Pdt. Manemba and produced 9 souls baptized and finally in the village of Pinaling had the first 12 Adventists. The development of the congregation that experienced expansion from the Pondang congregation on April 5, 2012. The Pondang congregation, most of whose members were from the Pinaling congregation which was expanded in the Pondang congregation, and at that time also through the Pinaling congregation committee proposed to the Minahasa Conference area to change the name of the Pinaling congregation to Pinaling Pioneers. _________________________________________________________Keywords : Seventh-Day Adventist Church work, Pinaling village, 1946-2012

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT This research entitled “improving students speaking skill through imitation technique” is implemented in SMA Negeri 1 Beo. It is attempted to apply the imitation technique in English (language). This research is expected for student acquirement the language by copying the utterance through imitation model. Theoretically imitation technique is used to copying the utterance without observing the grammatical rule. The learner acquires the language as a child learns a language. The imitation technique makes the learner knows not only what they say but also how to say it. However, the technique is more enjoyable to it push the learner to copy the utterance from the model. In this study the writer applied four types of imitation: observing, remembering, reproducing and reinforcing or motivational. The research uses classroom action research. The result of this research shows that imitation technique can improve students’ speaking skill through classroom activity research. All students have more than 50% improvement. Abstract

                                            ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Prepositions in the Book of Proverbs”. It is to identify, classify, analyze, and describe the forms and the meanings of prepositions in the book of Proverbs. In analyzing the data, the writer used theory based on Aarts and Aarts theory (1982) to identifying classifying the forms of preposition and Marcella Frank‟s theory (1972) in analyzing and describe the meaning of preposition as a part of descriptive method. The data were taken from the book of Proverbs. The form of prepositions that founded in the book of Proverbs, such as simple prepositions consist of : after, as, at, before, by, for, from, like, in, near, of, on, through, till, up and with, whereas complex prepositions consist of : because of, for the purpose of, in front of, out of, up down and up to. The meaning of prepositions that founded, consist of: time, place or position, direction, cause or reason, purpose, accompaniment, comparison, means, manner, in the capacity of, material, source, separation, apposition, characterized by, exception and example.Keywords: Prepositions, Forms and Meanings, The Book of Proverbs

Abstract

                                             ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Ambisi dalam Novel A Stranger In The Mirror Karya Sidney Sheldon” as a requirement to accomplish undergraduate at Faculty of Humanities Sam Ratulangi University Manado. The study aims to determine two main characters names Toby Temple and Jill Castle, on their ambition to achieve a dream to become superstar in Hollywood. This study used psychologycal approach by Alfred Adler theory as the main theory to identify the ambition in the novel. The writer also used Robert Stanton theory to anylized the characters. The method used in this research is descriptive by using intrinsic and extrinsic approach to identify, describe and analyze the ambition in the novel A Stranger in the Mirror. The result shows that Toby and Jill are characters who have a strong determination, they strive to get their dreams. their ambition arises because of impulse factors from within themselves and the environment. Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT      This research aims at identify, classify, and analyze the kinds of meaning based on their forms and meanings. All of the data have been taken from song lyrics of the album Colours by Michael Learns to Rock and analyzed based on Leech’s theory (1981). The descriptive method is used in this research. The result of this research shows that kinds of meaning can be found in song lyrics. It is proved by the number of kinds of meaning which were identified in the lyrics: there are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning and thematic meaning. Conceptual meaning shows the real meaning of the words, connotative meanings shows the meaning of the word is over and above its purely conceptual meaning, social meaning shows the meaning of the words that shows the social environment, affective meaning is how words reflect the personal feelings of the speaker, reflected meaning shows the meaning which arises in cases of multiple conceptual meaning, collocative meaning shows the meaning that consist of the associations a word requires of the meaning of words which tend to occur in its environment and thematic meaning shows how the speaker emphasizes the meaning of the words. This research can provide knowledge about the types of meaning in semantic studies, especially for another researcher.
