Abstract

ABSTRACT  This skripsi is entitled  ”Bentuk Permintaan Yang Sopan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Bolango : Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The problems in this research is what  are the forms of polite request in English and Bolango Language and, the similarities and difference between the two language. The research to be answered are the forms of polite request in English and Bolango language. In terms of methodology, this study the data collected through library research and field studies using descriptive method and contrastive analysis. The data of both languages are analyzed based on the theories of Leech. The result of the research shows that English and Bolango languages have similarities in the forms of polite request. This similarities, for example, can be found in the polite signer of each language. The polite signer of both languages have the same meaning. English and Bolango language have sentence patterns which are used to request the hearer to do something what speaker wants. Polite request forms of English and Bolango language have command,order,and teasing meaning for the hearer to do something. The differences of the polite request of the two language lie in their forms. Another difference is polite request pattern as an invitation to the hearer to do something with the speaker. Abstract

ABSTRAKTION Dieser Untersuchung hat den Titel “Imperativsatz des Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache: eine kontrastive Analyse”. Das Problem dieser Untersuchung ist: Welche Bildung des Imperativsatz gibt es im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache und Was ist der Unterschied und die Gleichheit zwischen Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache. Zur Analyse der Imperativsatz im Deutschen und Talaud Sprache benutzt die Schreiberin die Theorien von Dreyer und Schmitt, Günther und Moeliono. Das Ziel die Untersuchung ist die Bildung des Imperativsatzes im Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache zu finden, zu beschreiben und zu analysieren. Die Daten werden von einigen Bücher gesammelt, die die Untersuchung beziehen und Interview. Um das Ziel der Untersuchung zu erreichen, benutzt die Schreiberin die kontrastive Methode. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung zeigt, daß die Deutschen und Talaud-Sprache den Unterschied und Gleichheit in der Bildung des Imperativsatzes haben. ------------------------ Stichwörter: Imperativsatz, Deutsch, Talaud-Sprache, kontrastive Analyse

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This  title of this research is “Salam dan Ungkapan Perpisahan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Sangihe : Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The aims of this study are to identify, describe and contrast the forms and pattern of greetings and leave-takings in English and Sangiric Language.  This research uses descriptive and contrastive analysis. The data in English were collected from books related to sociolinguistics, book of speaking, and source from internet, the data in Sangiric Language  were collected by writing and recording the conversations that occurred on the situation, the time and opportunity in places such as: the conversation that occurred while passing on the street, conversations between family members (in the house), a conversation between teachers and school officials, a conversation at the office, place of worship and other, the data Analyzed were using the consepts of Fishman, Tillit and Bruder.  The result of this research shows that greetings and leave-takings in English and Sangiric Language have two forms; they are formal and informal. In addition, the writer finds that there are three patterns in English and Sangiric Language on greetings. Those patterns are the  mutual formal greetings, the mutual informal greetings and the non mutual greetings. The patterns of English leave-taking are the same as their greetings. On the other hand, Sangirics Language has only two patterns of non mutual leave-takings, formal and informal.  Greetings and leave-takings in English and Sangiric Language has differences. For instance, greetings and leave-takings in English are various. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research which entitled “Tanda dalam Artikel 2018 in Photos: Wrapping Up the Year” is focused on sign that can be found in a news photo. The aims of this research are to identify and classify kinds of sign and to analyze and describe meaning of a sign that can be found in news photo. This research uses Pierce’s Theory in the process of identifying and classifying kinds of sign and the process of analyze and describe the meaning of a sign. The source of news photo was taken from an article which is entitled 2018 in Photos: Wrapping Up the Year, published by The Atlantic on their website at www.theatlantic.com. The method of this research is descriptive method. Every sign that can be found in a news photo will be identified and classified into three kinds of sign which are index, icon, and symbol. Then, every sign meaning will be analyzed and described according to the process called semiosis. The result of this research shows that three kinds of sign which are index, icon, and symbols can be found in twenty selected photos, and every sign meaning from each sign found in twenty selected photos are different from each other.___________________________________ Keywords: semiotic analysis, sign, kinds of sign, news photo

Abstract

ABSTRACT In English there are two subclasses of verb; those are lexical verb and auxiliary verb. Modals are a class of auxiliary verb that are combined with the base form to make verb phrase with wide meaning. This study is an attempt to describe and analyze modals in the novel “The Swiss Family Robinson” by Johan Rudolf Wyss. The aim of this research is to identify and classify the form and meaning of  modals. The method which is used in this research is descriptive method. The data of modals have been taken from the sentences in the novel “The Swiss Family Robinson” and have been analyzed by using Quirk et.al. and Frank’s concepts. The result of this study shows that modal forms which are used namely will, shall, can, may, must, would, should, could, might, ought to, have to, be able to, and need, whereas dare is not found in the novel. The study can be continually done by analyzing modals in other literary works.   Keywords : Modals, Novel The Swiss Family Robinson

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled ‘Preposition in English and Bugis Language’ (A Contrastive Analysis). It is written to identify and classify the forms and analyze the meanings of preposition in English and Bugis language, and to find out the similarities and differences.The English data were taken from some grammatical books and English education journals FKIP UNS and the Bugis data have been collected by hearing Folktale and life experience in Bugis language from several informants in Manado and Makassar. In analyzing the data, the writer used theories of Bloomfield, Arts and Arts, Harman and theory of Lado to contrasting both languages.The result shows that preposition in English and Bugis language have similarities and differences in forms and meanings. The similarities can be found in meanings, both languages can indicates place, time, cause, tools and source. The differences are shown in the forms, English language has eight complex forms of preposition while Bugis language has no complex forms of preposition. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled “Metaphor in the Song Lyrics of the Album No Sound without Silence by The Script”. There are two problems to answer in the analysis. First is what are the types of metaphor found in The Script songs No Sound without Silence album. The second one is what the meaning of the song lyrics in The Script Album No Sound without Silence. This study uses descriptive method. The data sources used in this study are the lyrics of the 12 songs by The Script on No Sound without Silence album. This study uses the theory of Leech (1984) and Lakoff and Johnson (1980). The result reveals that there are 40 metaphors found in the Album No Sound without Silence by The Script. It can be categorized into concretive metaphor, humanizing metaphor, animistic metaphor and synesthetic metaphor. Those metaphors are divided into 32 lines of concretive metaphor, 6 lines of humanizing metaphor, 1 line of animistic metaphor and 3 lines of synesthetic metaphor. Concretive metaphor is mostly used in this album. The songwriter uses the metaphor to add some elegance to the song. In addition the messages of each song were shown by the use of metaphor. In analyzing the meaning, Lakoff  and Johnson’s theory about target and source was used. Target refers to the idea or principal subject of metaphor while source refer to the thing that has been equalizer. Keywords: Metaphor, Target and Source, No Sound without Silence.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is entitled ‘Preposition in English and in Manadonese Malay (A Contrastive analysis). The objects of the research are to identify, classify, analised, and described the forms and meanings of preposition in English and in Manadonese Malay language, and to find out the similarities and differences. The English data were taken from some grammatical books and journals of  English teaching forum while the data in Manadonese Malay language have been collected by interviewing some informants. This research used descriptive method. The writer used the concept Crystal (1999), Arts and Arts (1982), Harman (1992), and Lado (1979). It is found that the prepositions in English and Manadonese Malay have similarities and differences. The similarities can be found in their forms and meanings. Both languages have simple and complex preposition which is indicating cause or reasons, condition, direction, instrument, manner, participation, place, purpose, source, and time. The differences are shown  in the forms. While  English language has fourteen complex forms of  preposition Manadonese Malay language only has one complex forms of preposition. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research entitled “ Conjungtions in the lyrics of the songs of Mr. Big” describes the  conjuctions found in the songs of the album “What If” of  group band  called Mr. Big. Conjuctions are function words that have grammatical functions that are used to connect words, phrase, clause and sentences .The conventional types of these connective  words are coordinate conjuctions and subordinate conjuctions The objective of this study is to identify, analyse and describe the conjuctions  in the songs of Mr. Big and the method used in this research is descriptive  The concepts used in analysed the conjuctions follows  Payne (2011), Quirk and Greenbaum (1999). The result  shows that the  conjuctions found in the lyrics of the songs of Mr.Big are: corrdinate conjuctions and . but, or,  and for, and subordinate conjuctions are where, when, that, after, how, what, as far as, since, cause.     The function of the coordinate conjunctions is to connect words, phrases, clauses and sentences, whereas  the subordinate conjunctions is to connect clauses. It is expected that this research is to support the concept of conjunctions in English as well as be beneficial to increase students’ knowledge on conjunctions and in understanding more the songs of Mr. Big. Abstract

ABSTRACT “Room” is a national best seller novel written by Emma Donoghue. It tells a story about a child, Jack ,and his mother, Joy, that were caged in a room by a man who kidnapped and raped Joy, long before Jack  born. The novel is told from Jack’s point of view. This research aims at identifying, analyzing and describing the depression in “Room”. And also the causes and effects of the depression which are described in this novel. The identification of the data are based on  the theory about Literature. The data are taken from the novel.  Furthermore, there will be an analyzis using the psychological perspective from the  theory of Wellek and Warren (1997). In analyzing the data, the writer uses intrinsic and extrinsic approaches. The writer collected data which were taken from the novel, by reading carefully and underline the things that depict important events in “Room”, as well as notes or summaries that can support the research. The process of data collection is done through the identification of the psychological aspects in the novel and the data ware analyzed to find out the causes of Jack’s and Joy’s depression. The result of this research shows that depression picture true Jack and Joy, they experienced some horrible event, where they have been lock up in a room, the      cause of the lock up made Jack anti-social and Joy hurts her child, and try to kill herself.   Key words: Literature, Novel, Room, Depression, Psychological Analysis.
