Abstract

                                                 ABSTRACTThis research is entitled “Penggunaan Alih Kode oleh Youtubers Indonesia : Suatu Analisis Sosiolinguistik”. This research aims to identify, analyze, and describe the codeswitching that appeared on youtube by Indonesian YouTubers and explain the reason for the phenomenon mentioned above. This research uses the descriptive method. The theories of Hoffman (1991) and Janet Holmes (2013) are used in this research. The data were collected from youtube videos in Indonesian – English, and English-Indonesian from July – December 2019 that was uploaded by more than 13 Indonesian YouTubers who were subscribed by the writer on youtube. The total number of code-switching is 90 data found from the conversation in videos and the title of content video. The result of this research shows that there are three types of code-switching on youtube, namely Inter-sentential switching with 39 data, Intra-sentential switching with 30 data, and Emblematic switching with 211 data. The result of this research also shows that there are six reasons which influence the use of code-switching on YouTubers, namely talking about a particular topic with 29 cases found, being emphatic about something (express solidarity) with 17 cases found, Interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors) with 17 cases found, repetition used for clarification with 11 cases found, Intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor with 10 cases found, expressing group identity with 6 cases found. The dominant reasons which YouTubers used are talking about a particular topic with 29 cases found.Key Words : Code Switching, Youtube, Sociolinguistic

Abstract

                                               ABSTRACT     This research entitled ‘Register Used in Online Transportation Application in North Sulawesi’. It is expected to give contribution for the theoretical building of the linguistic field, particularly supports the development of subject dealing with sociolinguistics for the other studies and especially also for the user of online transportation application as this research about the register used in online transportation application in North Sulawesi. It is an attempt to identify and classify the registers used in online transportation application and to analyze the variation of language and linguistic form of register used in online transportation application in North Sulawesi. The theories which used in this research are Martin Joos (1968) about variation of language and George Yule (2006) about linguistic form and this research applies a descriptive method. Datas were taken in Grab and Gojek applications menus, notifications, messages and services from December 2016 to July 2019 by the writer because he is also working as a Driver in both companies as well. The results of the analysis showed that there are 40 words which contain the variation of languages and linguistic form of register. Variation of languages that used in register word in online transportation application are frozen, formal, consultative, casual and intimate, while language form of register found in online transportation application are coinage, borrowing, compounding, blending, clipping, backformation, conversion and acronyms. The linguistic meanings of register are found using an online dictionary.Keywords : Register, Online Transportation Application : aSociolinguistic Analysis

Abstract

                                        ABSTRACTThe title of this research is “Preposition in the Book of Romans”. This research to identify and classify the forms as well as the meanings of the preposition found in the book of Romans. The research supported by Aarts and Aarts (1982) and Harman (1986). The method used in this research is descriptive method and the data were taken from the book of Romans based on These Holy Bible New King James Version. The result of this research found these are: simple preposition (one-word preposition) consist of: at, in, before, of, between, on, by, since, until, up, from, and with, whereas complex preposition (multi-word preposition) consist of: according to, because of, on account of, in accordance with, and out of. Meanwhile, the meanings of preposition found in this book are: cause or reason, condition, direction, instrument, manner, participation, place, purpose, source, time, respect, level, medium, measurement, and matter. ______________________________________________Key words: Preposition, Form, and Meaning, The Book of Romans in the Bible

Abstract

                                                 ABSTRAKPenelitian ini membahas bentuk klausa verbal dalam judul berita online Antara News Gorontalo kolom Peristiwa edisi Januari-Februari 2020. Tujuan penelitian ini mengidentifikasi, mengklasifikasi, dan menjelaskan bentuk dan konstruksi klausa verbal berdasarkan unsur fungsional. Sumber data dari judul berita online Antara News Gorontalo kolom Peristiwa edisi Januari-Februari 2020 dengan proses penyedian data menggunakan metode simak dan teknik rekam. Data dianalisis menggunakan metode agih dengan teknik dasar BUL dan teknik lanjutan yaitu teknik lesap dan teknik balik berdasarkan teori Suhardi dan Ramlan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bentuk klausa verbal transitif ditandai dengan unsur predikat berprefiks mem-, meng-, dan berkonfiks men-kan, klausa verbal semitransitif ditandai unsur predikat berprefiks men-, ber-, dan bersufiks -i, kan-, klausa verbal intransitif ditandai unsur predikat berprefiks me-, mem, ber-, bersufiks –i, -kan dan tidak berafiks, klausa verbal pasif data ditandai unsur predikat berprefiks di-, ter- dan berkonfiks di-kan, di-nya, selanjutnya untuk konstruksi klausa verbal berdasarkan unsur fungsional menunjukan klausa verbal aktif dan pasif memiliki pola S-P, S-P-O, S-P-O-KET, S-P-PEL, S-P-PEL-KET, KET-S-P-PEL, S-P-KET, dan S-KET-P.Kata Kunci: Bentuk Klausa, Konstruksi Klausa, Berita Online                                                ABSTRACTThis study discusses the form of verbal clauses in the online news headline Antara News Gorontalo January-February 2020 edition of the column. The purpose of this study is to identify, classify, and explain the form and construction of verbal clauses based on functional elements. The data source is from the online news headline Antara News Gorontalo, January-February 2020 edition of the event column, with the process of providing data using the observation method and recording techniques. The data were analyzed using the agih method with BUL basic techniques and advanced techniques namely lesap technique and reverse technique based on Suhardi and Ramlan's theory. The results of this study show that the form of transitive verbal clauses is characterized by predicate elements of mem-, meng-, and confixed men-kan, semitransitive verbal clauses are characterized by predicate elements of men-, ber-, and suffix -i, kan-, intransitive verbal clauses are marked predicate elements of the predicate mem, mem, ber-, suffix -i, -kan and not affixed, passive verbal clauses of data are characterized by predicate elements with predicate di-, ter- and confixed di-kan, di-nya, then for the construction of verbal clauses based on functional elements show that active and passive verbal clauses have a pattern of S-P, S-P-O, S-P-O-KET, S-P-PEL, S-P-PEL-KET, KET-S-P-PEL, S-P-KET, and S-KET-P.Keywords: Clause Form, Clause Construction, Online New

Abstract

                                           ABSTRACT      The title of this skripsi is “Alih Kode dalam Program “Nebeng Boy Vlog Musim 2”. The research uses descriptive method and analyzed from socilolinguistic point of view. The aims of this research are to identify, classify, and analyze the code switching appeared on “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2” and to find the forms and reasons. This research uses the theory of Romaine (1995) to identify the forms and Hoffman (1991) for analyzed the reasons. The data were collected from 10 videos on “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2” in Boy William’s youtube channel. The total number of code switching are 205 data found in the conversation of Boy William and all his guests. The results of this research show that there are two types of code switching. They are inter-sentential code switching and intrasentential code switching. The results of this research show also that there are six reasons which influence the use of code switching on the program “Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2”. They are talking about particular topic, quoting somebody else, showing emphatic (express solidarity), interjection (inserting sentence fillers or sentence connectors), making repetition used for clarification, and intention of clarifying the speech content for interlocutor.Keywords: Sociolinguistics, Code Switching, Nebeng Boy Vlog Season 2

Abstract

                                              ABSTRACT     The research is entitled “Students’ Perceptions on ELT Materials: A Case Study of Students with Tombulunese Background in the Faculty of Humanities, Sam Ratulangi University”. The objectives of this research are to identify and to analyze about students’ perceptions towards ELT Materials which, in this research, is Written 4 textbook. It is also to analyze and describe the factors that influenced their perceptions of the textbook materials. This research employs case study as an approach and uses a descriptive method. The writer collected the data by interviewing English Department students with Tombulunese background with a total of 6 participants from batch 2015 and 2016. As the result of this research, the writer has found sixteen perceptions based on Tomlinson’s theory of good textbook criterion, where two of them did not fulfill the criteria, and one perception of socio-cultural aspects in the textbook materials. In this research, the writer also found the factors that influenced their perceptions which consists of internal factors and external factors, they are; 1) interest, 2) needs, 3) background, 4) experience 5) culture 6) classroom environment.Keywords: Students’ perception, English learning, ELT materials

Abstract

                                            ABSTRACT The title of this research is“Morphophonemic Process of Verbs in English and Siau Language: A Contrastive Analysis”. The objectives of this research are to identify, analyze and describe the kinds of morphophonemic processes and finding out the similarities and the differences of morphophonemic processes in English and Siau language by using of Jensen‟s (1990) and Lado‟s (1957) theories. The English data were collected from several English textbooks, such as Morphology: Word Structure in Generative Grammar (1990) by Jensen, Morphology : The Descriptive Analysis of Word by Nida (1949) and the data of Siau language were collected from books such as Morfologi Bahasa Sangir by George Bawole (1981), Habare Mapia Ko Pia Gambare by Pat Alexander (2008) and six native speakers at the age 40-71 years old in Siau. The results of this research shows that morphophonemic process are divided into ten kinds such as assimilation, dissimilation, insertion, deletion, haplology, metathesis, vocal harmony, vocal reduction, tone rules and morpheme sequence rules. Morphophonemic of verbs in English are divided into eight kinds such as assimilation, disimilations, insertion, deletion, haplology, metatesis, vocal reduction and morpheme sequence rules whereas the types of morphophonemic processes of verbs in Siau language divided into seven kinds such as assimilation, disimilations, insertion, deletion, haplology and vocal reduction and vocal harmony. The pronunciation of the morphophonemic process in both languages consists of prefixes and suffixes. The similarities that found in both languages are assimilation, disimilations, insertion, deletion and haplology, while tone rules are not found in both languages. The difference that exists in that both language are in English metathesis and morpheme sequence rules is found in English while in Siau language is not found. The reduction in English vocals occurs only as a result of the basic morpheme meeting with the affixation, whereas in Siau language occurs because of a basic morpheme meeting with prefixes and confixes.Keywords: Morphophonemic Process, English and Sangir Language, Contrastive Analysis.

Abstract

                                                 ABSTRACTThis research entitled “Hedonism as reflected in a film The Great Gatsby” is a research that mainly focused on the analysis of hedonism lifestyle; aspects and properties in the film namely. This research emphasize the theory from Well & Tiger the AIO to search the form of aspects of hedonism in the film meanwhile the theory mise en scéne to search the used of properties in the film, by the end, the results shows two findings, they are; First, from Well & Tiger interest include The Jazz Age and the flapper, activities include Wall Street illegal businesses, and opinions include the characterization of the characters. Secondly as the results of properties from the theory of mise en scéne there are; alcohol, Rolls Royce, and branded fashion that pictured the hedonism style itself.Keywords: The aspects of hedonism, The Jazz Age, Hedonism lifestyle.

Abstract

                                          ABSTRACTThis study which is entitled “Figurative Language in Emily Dickinson Poems” focusing on the use of a figurative languiage and categorize it accordance with the types and describe the meaning of figurative language itself. The writer choose five poems which have interesting titles and famous works of Emily Dickinson and using intrinsic approach to gain an understanding of the meaning of figurative language in each poem.The data were collected from Emily Dickinson’s poems and focused on the figurative language. The data which have been identified, collected and classified are analyzed descriptively by using intrinsic approach. This study uses the theory of Perrine in his book “Literature, Structure, Sound and Sense”. According to Perrine, figurative language is away to express something beyond the usual way. In his book also describes the types of figurative language such as personification, metaphor, simile, symbol, synecdoche, metonymy, and hyperbole. The result of this study can be summarized as follows : first, in the poems of Emily Dickinson there are three types of figurative language, including : personification, simile, hyperbole. The personification and simile types dominate every poem of Emily Dickinson. Second, the meaning of figurative language used by Emily Dickinson in her poems in general described Emily Dickinson life experience.Keywords : Poems, Figurative Language, Emily Dickinson.

Abstract

                                             ABSTRACT            Muktar Tahumil1 , Donald R. Lotulung2 , Jultje A. Rattu3This research entitled “Penamaan dalam Bahasa Inggris dan Bahasa Sangihe: Suatu Analisis Kontrastif”. The aim of this research is to make a contrastive analysis of Toponym in English and Sangihe Language. In analysing the data from two languages, the writer used the theory from Tent & Slatyer (2009:22) and Fraenkel & Wallen (1993. P.23) to contrast both languages. Some previous study which also been used to support this research, Suripatty (2015) and Prayogo, et al (2016). The descriptive qualitative method is used to describe the data analysis. The finding shows that the similarity between two languages is laid only in the category of toponym and there are three differences: descriptive toponym is more common in Sangihe language while in English more likely to used eponymous toponym, toponym in English more likely to used literal meaning while Sangihe language convey figurative meaning and the evaluative, indigenous, also shift toponym category are not found in Sangihe language.Keywords : Toponym, English and Sangihe language, Contrastive Analysis.
