Abstract

This study aims to improve student academic achievement through the development of Canva-based teaching materials in class X-A of SMA Negeri 7 Pontianak in the 2024/2025 academic year. Through a classroom action research approach that combines observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests, a significant picture of development was obtained in each learning cycle. The evaluation results showed an increase in scores from Cycle II by 48.57%, increasing in Cycle III to 66.28%, and finally reaching 84.41% in Cycle IV, thus exceeding the minimum completion limit of 75. In addition to improving student achievement, this activity also encouraged teachers to improve their ability to design and utilize digital learning resources that are more creative and relevant to student needs. Student responses also showed a positive tendency, especially regarding ease of access and the visual appearance of the teaching materials, which were considered more interesting and helped understand the material. Overall, these findings confirm that the use of Canva-based interactive teaching media can make a real contribution to improving the quality of the learning process and student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the acts of fraud that occurred behind the implementation of cultuurstelsel in the Dutch East Indies in 1830-1870. Starting from the implementation of the cultuurstelsel policy by governor general Van De Bosch, the reasons for implementing the cultuurstelsel, the acts of oppression that occurred during its implementation up to the abolition of the cultuurstelsel policy in 1870. The research method uses historical or historical methods in the form of descriptive narrative through 4 stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography (historical writing). Based on research results, the implementation of the cultuurstelsel policy has seen several acts of oppression against the people, one of which is through cultuurstelsel in the form of rewards given to plant supervisors as an incentive to exploit the people by blackmailing them in order to achieve set production targets. Village heads also often act arbitrarily in determining land, labor contracts, and payments that are not in accordance with production results and the workload given to the people. The impact of this policy is very detrimental to the people, causing hunger, poverty and the spread of infectious diseases due to the exploitation they experience. Criticism and protests against these practices attracted the attention of the Dutch parliament. Finally, in 1870, the cultuurstelsel was removed from the Dutch East Indies and replaced with liberal policies. This research provides insight into the acts of oppression behind the implementation of cultuurstelsel in the Dutch East Indies in 1830-1870.

Abstract

This article examines the historical establishment of Fort Speelwijk as a symbol of Dutch and Banten Sultanate relations. The study aims to explore cultural acculturation and shifts in governance arising from their interaction. This research uses the historical method, including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Built in Dutch architectural style by Hendrik Lucaz Cardeel and named after Governor-General Cornelis Janszoon Speelman, the fort functioned as the VOC's representative office in Banten. The findings reveal cultural acculturation in construction techniques, including brick and coral stone reinforced with lime, reflecting the local concept of “Gawe Kuta Baluwarti Bata Kalawan Kawis.” Economically, the VOC’s tax imposition led to rising commodity prices, burdening locals and weakening the Sultanate’s economic sovereignty. Additionally, the study explores local myths surrounding the fort, such as the story of Catharina Maria Van Doorn. After its 1994 restoration, Fort Speelwijk emerged as a prominent historical and educational tourism site.

Abstract

This article explores the transformation of colonial labor policy in the Dutch East Indies following the rebellion of Chinese workers at the Wanayasa tea plantation in 1832. Triggered by exploitative labor practices, including irregular wages, forced labor, and the absence of formal contracts, the uprising marked a turning point in labor governance under colonial rule. The research employs a historical-sociological method, supported by Ted Robert Gurr’s theory of Relative Deprivation, to examine the structural inequalities that led to collective resistance. Primary sources include colonial archives, local manuscripts, and autobiographical reports from colonial officials. The study finds that the rebellion pressured the colonial government to issue the Governor-General’s Decree of 1833, introducing formal labor contracts and a more structured wage system. While implementation remained inconsistent, this marked the beginning of a shift from informal exploitation to regulated labor relations. The article contributes a novel perspective by combining historical narrative with social theory to highlight the agency of marginalized labor groups in shaping colonial policy. It also offers new insights into the roots of labor consciousness and early worker mobilization in Indonesia’s colonial context.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of flipbook media and learning motivation on high school students’ history learning outcomes, both partially and simultaneously. The research was conducted at SMAN 13 Bandar Lampung using a quantitative approach and a verificative method. The subjects consisted of 38 tenth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using simple and multiple regression tests. The findings indicate that flipbook media significantly affects students’ learning motivation and history learning outcomes. Learning motivation was also shown to have a significant influence on students’ history learning outcomes. Simultaneous analysis reveals that flipbook media and learning motivation collectively contribute significantly to improving learning outcomes. These findings highlight the importance of integrating interactive digital media to enhance student engagement while reinforcing theoretical perspectives regarding the relationship among learning media, motivation, and learning achievement.
