Abstract

The Early Miocene limstone of the Jonggrangan Formation is cropped out at Gua Kiskendo Section, Kulonprogo Regency. Detailed stratigraphic sections were measured out along twelve kilometers section to predict the development of their depositional environments. Limestone petrography analysis are useful to sharpening the limestone microfacies interpretations. Based on petrography data from thirty eight samples, this limestone formation composes of boundstone, floatstone, grainstone, packstone, wackestone, mudstone, and crystalline limestone. The depositional environments of this formation are regressive condition, include fore-reef facies, organic reef facies, reef flank facies, shelf lagoon with open circulation facies, and shallow marine until local basin on back reef with open circulation facies. Keywords: Miocene, petrography, sedimentology, limestone, reef.

Abstract

A Pb-Zn-Ag deposit located at Tanjung Balit, Limapuluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, is hosted within the meta sedimentary rocks of the Tapanuli Group. The lithology consists of interbedded shale, meta sandstone, slate and phyllite (Kuantan Formation). The deposit is in the form of veins, veinlets and disseminated. The thickness of veins ranges from few centimeters up to 5 meters.  In places, some ore bodies are conformable with the host rocks. The main ores are lead, sphalerite, chalcopyrite, pyrite and silver with minor marcasite, magnetite, chalcosite and gold. Hydrothermal mineral assemblages consist of silica, illite, monmorillonite, pyrophyllite, muscovite, siderite, diaspore, dickite, magnesite, chlorite, carbonate, rhodochrosite, analcime, alunite, smectite, ankerite, calcite, dolomite, sericite and zeolite. Fluid inclusion measurements of secondary inclusions within quartz veins indicate that the homogenization temperature (Th) ranges from 185 - 350ºC. The presence of alunite, higher content of base metals as well as higher temperature range of the secondary fluids suggests that the deposit may characterize a high suphidation epithermal type. Keywords : Tanjung Balit, Tapanuli Group, fluid inclusion,  high sulphidation epithermal

Abstract

Abstrak - Coastal sediment geochemical characters can be utilized in tracing the source material and linkage with other rock units in a region. This study is intended to determine the geochemistry composition of the beach sands in four location on the south coast of Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta Special Province. The geochemical content was than used to characterize the coastal sediments, establish the relationship of the sample, and trace the source material. Geochemistry content of surface sample in comparison to subsurface sample on three selected locations are discussed. XRF and ICP-MS were used to measure the major oxides, trace and rare earth elements composition of the selected samples. The beach sands of these four locations is inferred derived from the same source based on bivariate plots of major oxides versus SiO2, degrees of elements coefficient correlation, and the trends on REE spider diagram. Rb, Sr, Zr, U, dan Th are more concentrated in the surface samples whilst magnetic materials in the subsurface ones. The selected coastal sediments are chemically immature and formed under arid condition. Source material is considered relatively fresh and ranges from mafic to felsic character. The Andesite intrusion around Ijo Mountain is thought to be more appropriate as a source material based on that character compared to other rock units as well as the results of Mount Merapi activities reinforced by chemical index of alteration calculations, oxide ratios and rare earth composition.Keyword : beach sands, the Andesite, geochemistry, provenance.

Abstract

The outcrop of granitic rocks at Kayutanam area, Padang Panjang, West Sumatera is known occured during Neogene. The fission track dating method can determine the absolute age of the granitic rock in this area and the intrusive period. Fission track analysis results the age of these granitic rocks is generated from 5.1 ± 0.5 to 19.9 ± 1.5 mys. Considering these dating result comprehend with petrographic analysis and the location of the granitic rocks it is suggested that the granitic intrusion occurred in three periods. The first granitic intrusion period took place in the Upper part of Early Miocene (19.9 mys). The second granitic intrusion period occured during the Lower - Upper part of Middle Miocene (15.0-11.2 mys). While the latest granitic intrusion is determined generated on the Lower part of Late Miocene- Early Pliocene (10.8-5.1 mys).Keyword : Fission track dating, petrography, granitic rocks, West Sumatera, Miocene.

Abstract

Abstract - The geology of  Meratus Mountain is relatively complex and still arguable until these day.Its magmatic activity is characterized by variation of igneous and volcanic rocks. Morphology feature of Balawaian paleo volcano can be recognized with radar imagery. Furthermore, validation of rocks constituent is observed directly from the field and hand sample laboratory analysis include the petrography and geochemistry. As the result, the morphology of Balawaian volcano is concluded as a truncated cone and composed by amphibole basalt which assumed come from the tholeiitic magma origin. The volcano intruded the Late Cretaceous - Late Paleocene andesite-basal unit during Late Miocene or Mio-Pliocene (Neogene). The volcano's magma is then interpreted has originate from Late Cretaceous subduction which trapped in the lower mantle and then flowed to the surface by the influence of Balawaian dextral fault pull apart basin.Keyword: Balawaian, radar imagery, amphibole basalt, Meratus, Neogen.

Abstract

The Gunung Geulis block, Cikepuh Wildlife Nature is one of the natural areas which is considered as the habitat for various wildlife. The area are currently degraded due to the fire. Reconstruction of the vegetation in Gunung Geulis block was conducted as an effort to understand the history of vegetation, so that in the future it can rehabilitate the burnt forest area through reforestation activities in accordance with the initial conditions of the habitat (before burning). This study used a transect method for soil sampling and acetolisys method to know the diversity of the sedimented sub-fossil pollen. Based on the results in the five sampling's points, the 90 types of both sub-fossil pollen and spores of plants (i.e., 34 types of sub-fossil pollens (arboreal pollen), 40 types of sub-fossil pollen (non-arboreal pollen), and 16 species of sub-fossil spores) were observed at five sampling points in Gunung Geulis block. This indicates that the annual fire intensity in the Gunung Geulis block were relatively high. Indeed, the correspoding block is undergoing a secondary succession. The vegetation changes that occur can be illustrated by the diversity of the observed sub-fossil pollen and spores in soil.Keyword : Pollen, Spores, Vegetation Reconstruction, Gunung Geulis, Cikepuh.

Abstract

Results of multi-sensor core logger measurement of single sediment core from the Aru Trough are presented in this paper. In this study an effort is to depict the general pattern of seafloor sediment over the study area to its physical characteristics. Microscopic observations of sediments extracted from the top and bottom of the core in general show the presence of shell fragments and foraminiferas (f), mafic minerals (m) and organic residuals of blackish-brownish lignite (l). The physical characteristics of sediment core indicate that the cps value of natural gamma measurement with range of 32-38 is interpreted associated with terrigenous sediment type transported and deposited on the seafloor. Magnetic susceptibility graph spikes of core sample located at depth of 180-185 cm and 195-200 cm of darker sandy silt lens seems to have more prominent values compared to the uniform background values and also indicate that the sediment fill derived and associated with the terrigenous sediment type. The gradually change of velocity gradient in the interval between 45 and 226 cm may reflect a change from a relatively consolidated sediments above 45 cm to poorly consolidated sediments below 45 cm. XRF data show that Th/U ratios = 1.44 (

Abstract

North West Java Basin consists of several subbasins formed by a complex tectonic processes. Determining subbasin patterns and geological subsurface structure sometimes difficult to identified through geological qualitative analysis, especially in a minimum full rock outcrop condition. One of the geophysical methods that can be used to know the subbasin spreading and subsurface geological configuration is gravity method. The purpose of this research is examining the distribution pattern of sedimentary subbasin, structure patterns and subsurface geological configuration based on spectral analysis, two dimension, and three dimension gravity modeling. The result of spectral analysis shows that the average basement depth in North West Java basin is 3.3 Km. Based on the results of residual anomalies and 3D inversion shows that there are 5 subbasins; Bekasi Subbasin, Rengasdengklok Subbasin, Cikampek Subbasin, Subang Subbasin, and Majalengka Subbasin. The 2D modeling and the second vertical derivative (SVD) analysis result that the subbasin structure are controlled by some faults which forming horst-graben structures. Keywords : gravity, spectral analysis, second vertical derivative, gravity modelling, Northwest Java Basin
