Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to describe the design and validity of the teaching material of electronic practice through problem-based learning (PBL) to improve critical thinking skills. The type of research used is development or research and development (R&D) using the 4D development design by Thiagarajan (1974). The research subject researchers use as the validator expert is the lecturer and biology teacher of SMAN 3 Tuban. Research and development data collecting that researchers use is a validation sheet. The research data analysis USES descriptive and verifiable techniques from the study. The results show the validity of the electronic practical instructions in terms of content/material worthiness achieves an average of 80% in valid categories, terms of systemic worthiness achieve an average of 82% in valid categories, terms of language worthiness achieves an average of 80% valid categories, and in terms of eligibility scores an average of 77% valid categories. The overall validity score of the electronic practical clue developed by 79.75% valid categories.

Abstract

A study of the anatomy of the roots of Rhizophora mucronata in various waters, such as freshwater, river estuaries, and beaches, has not been widely carried out. Therefore, this study aims to identify the roots of Rhizophora mucronata in the mangrove area with the approach of plant anatomy as a source of learning biology. The root anatomy research method uses the fresh preparation method by making thin transverse sections on the roots and observing them under a microscope. The results of the study showed similarities in the anatomical structure of the roots, namely the epidermis, cortex, endodermis, xylem, and phloem. The difference in the results of this study is in the cortex section, which has a difference in thickness. With this, it can be concluded that there are differences in the anatomy of the roots of Rhizophora mucronata, which live in various waters with differences in the thickness of their cortex cells, and the results of this study can be used as a source of learning in the form of practical instructions. So, it can be concluded that this study can be used as a source of learning for valuable instructions on plant anatomy by students in the course of plant anatomy.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of a guided inquiry learning model with a scientific approach on students' critical thinking skills on ecosystem material. The research was conducted in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year at one of the high schools in Jakarta, Indonesia. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The research sample used was 52 students, with each class totaling 26 students using a simple random sampling technique. Based on the study's results, the experimental class's average value was 87.27, and the control class was 80.15. The t-independent test results show that the guided inquiry learning model, with a scientific approach, affects students' critical thinking skills on ecosystem material. Applying a scientific approach to the guided inquiry learning model can allow teachers to train and improve students' critical thinking skills. This learning model and approach encourages active participation, stimulates curiosity, and helps students gain a deeper understanding.

Abstract

Dental caries is a common oral health problem, with Streptococcus mutans playing a key role. This bacterium metabolizes sucrose into lactic acid, leading to tooth enamel demineralization and cavities. Soursop (Annona muricata L.) plants, known for their antibacterial bioactive compounds, are often used traditionally to treat microbial infections. This study investigated the inhibitory effects of soursop leaf and fruit extracts on Streptococcus mutans growth using a completely randomized experimental design and the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method. Results showed that leaf and fruit extracts at 100% concentration exhibited the strongest inhibition (14.86 mm and 14.83 mm, respectively). The weakest inhibition was observed at 40% concentration (10.60 mm for leaf and 10.13 mm for fruit extracts). However, the average inhibition diameters for both soursop extracts were smaller than the positive control’s average of 27.80 mm. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Soursop leaf and fruit extracts (Annona muricata L.) possess antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans.

Abstract

This study explores the critical role of home gardens in traditional rituals in Pujon District, Malang Regency. Sustained by long standing customs, home gardens are significant social, cultural, and economic importance, especially concerning local customs. The research aims to identify the plant species cultivated in these gardens, their functions in ritual ceremonies. Adopting a qualittaive researched framework this study utilized a descriptive approach involving field observations and in-depth interviews. Key informants, incorporating garden owners, customary elders, and community leaders, were purposively selected. The results show that home gardens in Pujon Sub-district function as crucial green spaces and sources of food while also serving as focal points for social and cultural activities. Plants such as banana (Musa x paradisiaca), coconut (Cocos nucifera), jasmine (Jasminum sambac), and rose (Rosa sp.) are necessary to numerous ceremonies and traditional rituals. The preservation of knowledge regarding these plants is maintained through storytelling and daily activities, highlighting their role in sustaining local culture and biodiversity. As a result, home gardens play a crucial role in encouraging cultural identity and ecological balance in the region.

Abstract

With the rapid technological growth, education must participate in using technology as an innovation in learning. The purpose of this study is to know the validity of QR code e-Module as a media for ecosystem learning This research is development research using Addie models. The model consists of the five stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. But in this research only to the stage of development. The study was carried out in the month of March-May 2024. The data used in this study is data on the validity of the QR code e-Module test. The instruments used are questionnaires, the data used in the study at analysis using descriptive statistics in the form of presentation. The validity of the materials by 89.17%, the validity of the median expert by 83.33%, and the validity of the linguist by 88.71% valid criteria. Thus concludes that the e-Module based on the QR code developed is declared valid with an average of 87.07%.

Abstract

This study examines changes in the Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for Serang City between 2019 and 2023 to quantify vegetation density and health in the face of urbanization. Using Sentinel-2 satellite data and GIS analysis, it investigates how urban development, climate change, and land use influence plant cover. The findings indicate a substantial decrease in high vegetation from 13,089.791 hectares in 2019 to 12,296.742 hectares in 2023, accompanied by increases in tiny vegetation and aquatic zones. Statistical experiments show that urban expansion is a significant cause of vegetation loss, with climate changes impacting sparsely vegetated areas. This study emphasizes the dynamic interplay between urban expansion and climate conditions in generating vegetation trends, providing essential information for urban planners and politicians. The results demonstrate the necessity for focused reforestation and sustainable urban development to save green places, enhance environmental quality, and alleviate the adverse effects of urbanization. Immediate urban planning initiatives are recommended to combat vegetation loss, promote sustainable development, and increase resistance to environmental change.

Abstract

Learning media plays a role in generating enthusiasm and interest in learning for students, so an interesting learning media is needed that can help students in the learning process. Flipbook is one of the interactive learning media that combines visual representation, narration, and interactive simulation that is expected to help students. The purpose of this study is to see the validity of the flipbook for genetics course produced from local species data of North Maluku. The study is a research and development study (Research and Development) which refers to the Thiagarajan 1974 development model, namely 4D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The results showed that the flipbook learning media was very valid for use in learning with a percentage of 92% from material, media and language experts in this case by lecturers, and 98% from material, media and language experts in this case by teachers. The level of practicality of the learning media flipbook has a percentage of 91% obtained from student responses. This means that flipbook learning media is very valid and very suitable for use
