"SANGKHAKALA" refers to the shell horns that blown regularly to convey certain messages. In accordance with the meaning, this journal expected to become an instrument in the dissemination of archaeological information to the public which is published on an ongoing basis. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala is a peer-reviewed journal published biannual by the Balai Arkeologi Sumatera Utara in May and November. The first edition was published in 1997 and began to be published online in an e-journal form using the Open Journal System tool in 2015. Berkala Arkeologi Sangkhakala aims to publish research papers, reviews and studies covering the disciplines of archeology, anthropology, history, ethnography, and culture in general.

Abstract

AbstractAt least, there are 3 (three) periods of Islam art development in Aceh. First, the beginning of the expansion of Islam. In that era, the element of Islam’s art assimilated to the art of preislam (Hindu-Buddha). In line with the development of Aceh government system, people began to increase the skill in art. But, when the Dutch nation colonized, the art in Aceh was fading. It was known through the gravestones.

Abstract

AbstractAngklung, is one of the instrument made of bamboo which’s popular in west Java, had been known since the Clasic era (around 9 to 14 century). At first, angklung was used in traditional ceremony that related with agriculture, such as:ritual to Dewi Sri. Now, angklung is as an instrument for entertaining.

AbstractOne of the megalithic culture is sarcophagus. It appeared in someplace in Indonesia, such as Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Bali, and also Sumatera. All has same function, as a sarcophagus, yet each has spescial characteristic.

Abstract

AbstractPublic Archaeology can’t be understood as a narrow-minded view point as an archaeological research and their object’s presentation and representation at the public only. However, public archaeology must be understood more widely as an archaeological view point for understand the public requirements and importance. These discipline have an important meaning for the socialization of supreme culture values at the past. On the future, those values will be reinforcing the national cultural identities from the foreign cultural influence. In order to those purpose, public role, active and seletive creativity in the foreign culture adoption without leaving any cultural identity, will be necessary.

AbstractAs the time flow, Gayo people hadn’t built the traditional houses yet. Around late 19 to begin 20 century, the old building known as archaeological remains that had to be conservated. The architectured or it’s carved indicated the culture development of the past. AbstractThis article about ulos, a traditional clothes made by Batak People. Nowdays, many partonun (people who made ulos) difficult to sell it. They complain about that and finally did not serious to preserve this culture. As a traditional ancestor heritage ulos must be competing in this global market era.So actually they need a new creativity to think how ulos can be more impotant. This Writing want to think about creativity by using communicatioan market theories.
