Abstract

This study aims to analyze the United States’ strategy through the CHIPS and Science Act 2022 in reducing dependence on the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). The research employs neo-mercantilism theory using the concept of strategic protectionism to explain how state intervention in the semiconductor industry reflects political and economic security interests. The study applies a descriptive qualitative method with a policy study approach, utilizing secondary data from official documents, congressional reports, and academic literature. The findings indicate that the CHIPS Act functions not only as an economic policy but also as a geopolitical strategy to strengthen technological independence and reduce global supply chain risks. In conclusion, the CHIPS Act represents a concrete manifestation of strategic protectionism within the context of global technological rivalry

Abstract

Abstract

This study offers an alternative explanation of Donald Trump's foreign policies during his second presedential term through a feminist lens in International Relations. Using the concept of hegemonic masculinity as the main analytical framework, combined with the geopolitical codes framework Through a speech analysis of ten of Trump’s foreign policy speeches and remarks delivered between January 21 and September 30, 2025, the study dissects his discourse across five dimensions of geopolitical reasoning. The findings reveal that Trump’s foreign policy consistently enacts and reproduces the logic of hegemonic masculinity by privileging dominance, transactional loyalty, coercive strength, and uniteralism. In this configuration, statecraft is remasculinized: protection becomes synonymous with control, and diplomacy is subordinated to unilateral power.

Abstract

Graphic art persists as one of the non-violent devices for social movements and is thus worthy of a re-evaluation. Using Benford & Snow’s framing theory, this paper compares the graphic art framings of AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) during the 1980-90s and Black Lives Matter (BLM) in the wake of George Floyd’s killing in 2020 in order to examine what has stayed and changed in graphic art activism. This study argues that both movements’ diagnostic framing utilized symbols rooted in the history of each community’s oppression, subverted the public’s dominant narrative, and targeted government and institutions deemed responsible for their cause. In their prognostic framing, both presented solutions directed upward to the ruling bodies and downward to the general society. For their motivational framing, both movements aroused emotional resonance with their graphic arts—provoking emotions of anger, self-esteem, and solidarity which pushed people to join their cause. Those similarities testify to how graphic arts continue to possess the power of social transformation at the heart of movements.
