Abstract

Political dynasty is the inheritance of political power among members of a family over several generations. This study analyzes how political dynasties were built by local strongmen in Kuningan Regency. Kuningan was chosen as the locus of this study on the grounds that in that region a political dynasty was built without experiencing 'resistance' from the residents, and it still continues today. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and is complemented by the use of Joel S. Migdal's theory about local strongman and local bossism from John T. Sidel. The findings were that Aang Hamid Suganda (AHAS) was a local strongman from among successful entrepreneurs and a cadre of PDIP, the political party that won the election in Kuningan. Support for AHAS soared PDIP's rating in Kuningan, symbiotically with his success as Regent for two consecutive terms. The AHAS political dynasty shows that the successful inheritance of power within a family can be done through the effectiveness of political strategy, the significance of regional development, and the strong social influence created.

Abstract

The implementation of general elections in Indonesia poses various challenges, due to the form of an archipelagic country. The aspect of the region with its isolated, lagging, and remote character makes the election process require large resources, ranging from manpower, time and costs. To overcome this, the e-voting option emerged as an alternative to answer these challenges. The development of increasingly better technology makes the implementation of e-voting not impossible. The background of this study is based on the proposal to make elections in Indonesia less expensive. The purpose of the study is to determine whether the use of e-voting is suitable for implementation in Indonesia. The research method uses qualitative with research sources derived from primary and secondary data. The main result of this study is that e-voting can be considered for use in future elections. The author's conclusion is that e-voting is very possible to be implemented in Indonesia. However, the government needs to answer a number of needs. Among others, such as network infrastructure, data security, and readiness of human resources to remote areas.

Abstract

This paper explores the dualism in China's Strategic Culture based on its responses to territorial disputes with countries like Japan, India, and Taiwan. Unlike just one strategic culture for a state, this research demonstrates that China simultaneously enacts two distinct, almost contradicting in a way of strategic cultures: Confucian Pacifism and Cultural Realism. Whereas Confucian Pacifism is dialogical and harmony-oriented, Cultural Realism carries the act of pragmatism entailing threats or use of force. Dualism created by these two strategic cultures is what one needs to recognize in order to really appreciate the multi-dimensional with which China has treated international relations and border conflict. This paper discusses how these two strategic cultures interact and influence decision-making in influencing China's behavior on the global stage, especially in response to territorial disputes with its neighboring countries.

Abstract

China continues to try to establish norms in international dynamics, especially in Asia, with a "salami-slicing" strategy to expand its influence without triggering major conflicts. This strategy is seen in how China responds to its two territorial disputes; the occupation of islands in the South China Sea and the Indian border. The salami-slicing strategy helps China gradually occupy disputed territories and offers a fait accompli that the other party must accept. This paper will then use Bloomfield's strategic culture framework which emphasizes the existence of dominant and subordinate subcultures. The author finds that in influencing China's policies in territorial disputes, the dominant strategic culture is the Cult of Defense coined by Scobell. This strategic culture has three (3) implications for policy, namely projecting strength when on the verge of crisis and the tendency to take risks, and in the outline of its actions, China will then justify using its power.

Abstract

There are challenges and contradictions presented by the green economy, and its derivative, namely green growth, including the phenomenon of greenwashing and the sustainability paradox. The green economy has the potential to cause technological determinism in sustainable development. This article attempts to reintroduce and amplify the idea of de-growth, which was once a manifestation of post-pandemic recovery in 2020 as a form of economic re-orientation towards sustainable development. This article, written with a qualitative approach and literature study instruments, also portrays de-growth globally and in Indonesia, especially for the tourism sector with examples in Raja Ampat and Nusa Penida. We can examine the application of de-growth as an economic principle in Raja Ampat and Nusa Penida through restrictions on the number of tourists, zoning areas, and the involvement of existing local communities.
