Abstract

This article discusses three main issues i.e. women, politics of identity and religion as well as the relationship among them. The three are binded by cultural prejudice casted upon female bodies, specifically in discriminatory by-laws in 342 regions in Indonesia. The discussion takes place within the framework of Indonesia’s decentralization which has been marked with among other the implementation of public policies which targeting women’s bodies and behavior in the name of morality and religion. The cultural notion is also discussed to provide a better understanding on the complexity of the relationship among the three issues as previously mentioned. This study shows that religion has been used and politicized to ostricised women’s rights and other minorities’ and vulnerable groups’ rights.

Abstract

Feminism for some people in Indonesia viewed as a Western concept. They claimed that, It is a concept which is not rooted in Indonesia’s values. Even though there are several studies conducted to examine women’s issues in Indonesia, the result of those studies is insufficient to develop a body of knowledge or feminist theory of Indonesia. Historically, Indonesia in the past was a colonized nation which Dutch (Euro-Western) for some decades. This indicated that knowledge production process in Indonesia has been hegemonised by so-called Western knowledge. Decolonization and indigenization on research methodology is crucial to be able to establish an Indonesia’s feminist theory. The historical context of Indonesia as a colonized nation as well as cultural context impacted on various women’s issues in Indonesia including West Papua’s women. Therefore, providing spaces for multiple paradigm such a Postcolonial Indiegnous in a research is needed. The process of decolonization and indigenization in a research will provide a knowledge that based on indigenous perspectives on Indigenous purposes in the production of knowledge.

Abstract

This paper investigates the fulfillment of SRHR in Rembang during the protest against cement mining in Kendeng Mount. This paper concludes that women’s SRHR are being denied by the government as the access to water and food will be in jeopardy. The interviews took place in Tegaldowo Village and Timbrangan Village Rembang. The arrival of cement mining has threatened the livelihood of the forest, the community, and water capture.

Abstract

In Indonesia, female migrant domestic workers’ representations tend to contain negative meanings. Although they are named as “heroes of development”, but their position is nothing more than a commodity for the country. Such treatment makes female migrant domestic workers becomes vulnerable to violence and exploitation by employers, agents, andgovernment staff. Nevertheless, there is an alternative narrative that is rarely highlighted in literature or media, namely the representation of female migrant domestic workers as powerful actors. This paper seeks to fill in that alternative narrative by highlighting the agencies did by these six female migrant domestic workers. The author believes that by using the standpoint feminism perspective to analyze the struggle of these six female migrant domestic workers in empowering themselves after the oppression, it can be seen that agency has been manifested by female migrant domestic workers during the migration process. This study reveals the efforts of female migrant domestic workers to manifest their empowerment through migration decisions in the middle of patriarchal structures, their ability to resist structures with activism, and become agents of development and change for their communities.

Abstract

Cities and women have experienced the most vulnerable condition under the premise of economic development specifically those living in poverty. Women working in informal sectors are portrait of vulnerable family in cities where men as breadwinner sometimes unable to fulfill the financial basis. They then have to take the risks of living in slum areas in a prohibited territorial area that unable providing basic needs such as clean water, good air ventilation, sanitation, air circulation, and public or common room. Accumulation of this migration to cities has transformed cities into the most vulnerable place to live for those having no money—gentrification.

Abstract

This paper examines the legislation process of Proposed Regional Regulation on Domestic Workers (Raperda PRT) in DIY. The regional regulation becomes important because domestic workers have a significant role for working family and for those who are busy with public life. This resulted in an incresed demand for this proffesion every year. Unfortunately, the absence of governing regulation for this profession lead to the use of a very unclear and messy working relationship practice by the DW (PRT)and the customer (service user). The violation of employment relationship becomes regular occurance, as well as the violence experienced by domestic workers, whether physical, psychological, economic, sexual or social. In Yogyakarta, the Domestic Workers Protection Network (JPPRT) of DIY has suggested that the various type of violence experienced by domestic workers can not be separated from the absence of regulationthat governing the working relation of domestic workers and service user. Against this background JPPRT decided to pioneer and propose a draft for regional regulation for domestic workers in The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY).

Abstract

Unregistered marriage is a phenomena that are quite widespread in Indonesia. Functions of family is becoming vulnerable is not registered under the protection of law. This influences the human security especially the status of girls and children in general in Indonesia. This qualitative research investigates the perception and impacts of unregistered marriage in Indonesia. Methods being employed is deep interviews with various stakeholders. Indonesia forbids unregistered marriage since it make the status of children becoming vulnerable.
