Abstract

Background: Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) are plants from the Moringaceae family that have many properties and are often used empirically as traditional medicine. One of the benefits of M. oleifera leaves is immunomodulator, which functions to modulate the human immune system in both immunostimulants and immunosuppressants. Objectives: To provide information on the potential of flavonoids in M. oleifera leaves as immunomudulators developed as alternative therapies. Methods: Review of articles using original articles from national and international journals with the keywords "immunomodulator," "immunostimulant," "immunosuppressant," "Flavonoids," and "Moringa oleifera leaf or leaves". Results: Based on a search of various literature studies, M. oleifera leaf extract is proven as an immunomodulator with the most compounds found, namely flavonoids such as quercetin and kaempferol. This content can affect the immune response to trigger or inhibit the proliferation and activation of immune cells in the process of increasing or decreasing the immune system in the body. Conclusions: Moringa leaves have activity as immunomodulators that can help maintain the immune system in the body.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a health problem that affects more than 400 million people worldwide. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease characterized by damage of pancreatic cells followed by hyperglycemia and oxidative stress. Propolis is one of the natural ingredients of bee products. Propolis is known to have bioactive compounds that are rich in flavonoids, phenolic and antioxidant properties so that it has potential as an antidiabetic. Objectives: This writing aims to determine the activity of propolis in test animals of Type 1 DM model. Material and Methods: This research method uses a literature study using type 1 diabetic as inclusion criteria in journal screening. Keywords used include propolis, diabetes and hyperglycemia. Literature is obtained through an electronic data base, such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Scopus and Science Direct. Results: Based on the articles that have been collected, that Type 1 DM causes inflammation which is characterized by decreased immune function due to increased levels of IL-6, IL-1β and TNF-α. Propolis can reduce levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, prevent the inflammatory process in diabetes and have hypoglycemic activity. Conclusions: The conclusion of the reviewed article that propolis from honey bee has effectiveness to improve the function of body cells and reduce diabetes complication.

Abstract

Background: Traditional medicine plays a role in alternative treatment systems for diabetes mellitus. Objectives: This study aimed to screen the secondary metabolite of the ethanol extract from robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre) seeds. We aimed to clarify the effects of these extracts on blood glucose, urea, and creatinine levels in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats. Material and Methods: Phytochemical screening of extracts was carried out qualitatively according to standard methods. The rats were administered ethanol extracts of C. canephora Pierre seeds at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight for 28 days. Blood glucose, urea, and creatinine levels were then compared between the control and diabetes groups. Results: The ethanol extract of C. canephora Pierre seeds contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, and tannins. Group doses of 100-300 mg/kg body weight can significantly reduce blood glucose, urea, and creatinine levels. It can be concluded that the ethanol extract C. canephora Pierre seeds is a potential source of antidiabetic. Conclusions: The ethanol extract of C. canephora Pierre seeds shows potential as an antidiabetic agent.

Abstract

Background: Therapy in chronic kidney disease aims to slow down the prognosis of the disease. Objectives: Describe the types of classes and names of most drugs in treating chronic kidney disease patients based on the stage of the disease. As well as analysing the use of renal risk drugs in patients with chronic kidney disease. Material and Methods: This descriptive research will be carried out in May-June 2023. The population of this study was the entire medical record of inpatient chronic kidney disease patients at Ansari Saleh Hospital. Data analysis was performed uni variat for the study of patient characteristics and therapy profiles, while the analysis of the use of renal risk medications refers to the 2019 renal handbook. Results: A total of 51 medical records were analysed. The top five drug classes based on stages 4 and 5 include diuretics, cephalosporin antibiotics, vitamins, trace elements, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and insulin. The top five drugs received by patients based on disease stages 4 and 5 consist of furosemide, ceftriaxone, aminefron®, candesartan, and insulin aspart. Renal risk drugs found in studies include drugs that need dose adjustment, are lisinopril, ramipril, cefixime, cefotaxime, meropenem, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, bisoprolol, diltiazem, and simvastatin. At the same time, renal-risk drugs that need to be avoided are hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone. Conclusions: Furosemide diuretics are the most widely used therapy in stages 4 and 5. Hospitalised chronic kidney disease patients receive some renal risk drugs that, in the literature, need dose adjustment, and some need to be avoided.

Abstract

Background: High-alert drugs require special attention when used because they can cause adverse reactions. High-alert drugs are classified into 3, namely, concentrated electrolytes, LASA, and cytostatics. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the evaluation of High-alert drug storage at the central pharmacy of Ratu Zalecha Martapura Hospital. Material and Methods: The research was conducted using a descriptive method, with observational data collection using an observation checklist sheet. The population and study sample took data on all High-alert medicines at the central pharmacy of Ratu Zalecha Martapura Hospital. Results: High alert drug storage was based on SOP, placed in a central pharmacy using the FIFO and FEFO methods, was placed in a separate place based on cytotoxic drug groups, electrolyte concentrates, and others. High alert drug storage according to storage temperature requirements for each drug (cold temperature and room temperature), was labeled "high alert" and electrolyte concentrates were only available in pharmaceutical installations. Conclusions: The conclusion of this research was High-alert drug storage in the Pharmaceutical installation of Ratu Zalecha Martapura Hospital have been qualified seven (7) criteria based on Minister of Health Decision Nu. 1128 of 2022 and Minister of Health Regulation Nu. 72 of 2016. Good and correct drug storage is very important in order to maintain the quality and quality of drugs.
