Abstract

Studies on religious tourism in Indonesia generally focus on socio-economic dimensions and destination management, while the integration of religious tourism management with the strengthening of religious moderation values at historic sites such as Masjid Menara Kudus remains relatively limited. This study aimed to describe the management practices of religious tourism at Masjid Menara Kudus and to analyze their role in fostering religious moderation among pilgrims and local communities. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed in the Masjid Menara Kudus area, Menara Kudus, and the Tomb of Sunan Kudus, with research subjects comprising foundation managers, religious leaders, vendors, pilgrims, and local residents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, and were analyzed interactively through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with validity tested using source and technique triangulation. The findings show that religious tourism management at Masjid Menara Kudus is implemented by balancing the sacred function of worship, cultural preservation, and economic activities, thereby creating spiritual comfort and social order. Religious moderation values are fostered through architectural acculturation, the management of religious traditions, and socio-religious practices that emphasize tolerance and respect for differences, in line with the da‘wah legacy of Sunan Kudus. These findings affirm that religious tourism has the potential to serve as a sustainable medium for religious moderation education and provide both conceptual and practical foundations for managers and policymakers in designing governance of religious destinations that is religiously grounded and oriented toward community welfare.

Abstract

Natural and Social Science Education (IPAS) at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah remains predominantly focused on cognitive and scientific aspects, while the integration of Islamic values, particularly verses of the Al-Qur’an has not yet been implemented in a deep and contextual manner. This study aimed to develop IPAS teaching materials that integrate science and the Al-Qur’an based on Ahmad Al-Jabiri’s epistemology, which encompasses the bayani, burhani, and irfani phases. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with teachers and fifth-grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah as the subjects. Data were collected through teacher and student response questionnaires, interviews, documentation, and needs analysis, and were then analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative descriptive techniques. The findings show that the developed IPAS teaching materials successfully integrate scientific concepts with Al-Qur’anic verses in a systematic and meaningful way that aligns with the characteristics of elementary-level learners. The Ahmad Al-Jabiri–based IPAS teaching materials were declared suitable for use as an integrative learning alternative that brings together rationality, empirical experience, and revelatory values in basic education. Teacher and student responses were positive, indicating that the materials are easy to understand, engaging, and helpful in enabling students to master scientific concepts while simultaneously enhancing their spiritual understanding.

Abstract

Although the social environment has received relatively limited empirical attention in studies on student learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), it plays an important role in shaping academic success and learning behavior. This study aims to examine the effect of the social environment on students’ learning outcomes in IRE at SMPN 1 Tembelang. A quantitative approach with a survey design was employed, involving all students as participants through saturated sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires, direct observations, documentation, and students’ report card results. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple linear regression. The findings indicate that the social environment has a positive and statistically significant effect on students’ IRE learning outcomes, as shown by a significance value of 0.006, which is lower than the 0.05 significance level. These findings support the perspectives of social learning theory and ecological development theory, which emphasize the role of social interaction in facilitating the learning process. This study concludes that a supportive and conducive social environment plays an essential role in improving students’ learning achievement in IRE. The findings contribute to Islamic education literature by providing empirical evidence on the importance of social-environmental factors in student learning outcomes and imply that schools should strengthen social support systems to enhance students’ academic performance.

Abstract

This study explores Islamic branding as a strategic approach to achieving competitive advantage in Islamic educational institutions in the contemporary global and digital era. Increasing competition among educational providers has encouraged institutions to develop distinctive identities that emphasize not only academic excellence but also ethical and spiritual values. This study aims to analyze how Islamic values are integrated into marketing frameworks, leadership practices, stakeholder engagement, and digital transformation to strengthen institutional branding. A qualitative approach with a conceptual and literature-based design was employed, focusing on recent scholarly works published between 2024 and 2025. Data were collected through a systematic literature review and analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The findings indicate that Islamic branding, when integrated with the 7P marketing mix, enhances institutional credibility, public trust, and stakeholder satisfaction. Leadership, particularly religious leadership represented by kyai, plays a central role in shaping institutional legitimacy and brand identity. Furthermore, digital transformation and artificial intelligence provide new opportunities for branding innovation, although ethical and infrastructural challenges remain significant. The study concludes that Islamic branding must move beyond symbolic representation and be deeply embedded in governance, pedagogy, and institutional culture to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. This study contributes to the theoretical development of Islamic educational management and offers practical recommendations for policymakers and educational leaders in strengthening value-based institutional branding.

Abstract

Pondok Pesantren Modern ZIIS (Zamzam Integrated Islamic School) Cilongok, Banyumas, Central Java, is an integrated Islamic educational institution that promotes Islamic and national values through the motto A Great Place to Learn. This study aims to analyze parents’ school choice patterns in relation to cultural and social capital, the mechanisms for forming students’ Islamic habitus through an integrated curriculum and co-curricular programs, and the dynamics of social reproduction within the ZIIS environment. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design, strengthened by structured questionnaire data from four parents of Grade XI students during the 2024–2026 period. The results showed three main findings. First, parents’ school choice patterns were economically heterogeneous, including families with monthly incomes below IDR 1,000,000 to above IDR 6,000,000, but homogeneous in value orientation because all parents prioritized the formation of Islamic character, independence, and a protected social environment. Second, ZIIS consistently formed students’ Islamic habitus through a structured yaumiyah schedule, a tahfidz Al-Qur’an program, gradual entrepreneurship, and international language programs integrated into the official curriculum. Third, unlike urban elite Islamic boarding schools, ZIIS demonstrated relatively inclusive dynamics of social reproduction, marked by open access across economic classes, although three of the four parents recommended adding scholarship programs to make accessibility more equitable. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that ZIIS functions as a space for forming a modern Islamic habitus that integrates piety, independence, and global competitiveness with broader social reach than urban elite Islamic boarding schools. The implications of this study expand understanding of the role of private Islamic educational institutions in shaping students’ character while opening access to education across social classes.

Abstract

The limited use of affective level-based self-assessment in assessing students’ social attitudes indicates the need for a more reflective, participatory, and relevant evaluation approach for developing the character of prospective educators. This study aims to analyze the social attitudes of fourth-semester PGMI students through self-assessment focused on the aspects of cooperation, empathy, tolerance, communication, mutual cooperation, and respect. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach with purposive sampling involving 32 fourth-semester PGMI students. Data were collected through an affective level-based self-assessment questionnaire and then analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis based on the mean score for each indicator. The results showed that students’ social attitudes were in the high category across all aspects analyzed. The tolerance aspect obtained the highest percentage of 96.9%, whereas the aspects of cooperation, mutual cooperation, and respect each reached 90.6%. The aspects of empathy and communication skills were at 87.5%. These findings indicate that affective level-based self-assessment functions not only as an evaluation tool but also as a means of reflection that helps students understand and develop social attitudes gradually through the affective levels of receiving, responding, valuing, organizing, and characterizing. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that affective level-based self-assessment can be used as a reflective and participatory evaluation approach in measuring the social attitudes of PGMI students. The implications of this study provide a contribution to the development of affective evaluation in higher education and serve as a basis for designing a more innovative attitude assessment model that is responsive to the needs of 21st-century learning.
