Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is pain during menstruation which is often experienced by women. Family history, age of menarche, length of menstruation, smoking habit, physical activities and stress are risk factors of dysmenorrhea. 8th semester students activity can lead to stress that trigger dysmenorrhea. The purpose of this study was to discover factors related to incidences of dysmenorrhea in 8th semester students of UNSOED. The type of this study was descriptive. The research population was 8th semester students of UNSOED totaling in 1.563 people. The sample was 85 people collected by propotional stratified random sampling technique. Data collection was performed by interviewing using questionnaire. Univariat statistical analysis showed that 67,1% respondent had dysmenorrhea, 57,6% respondent had age of menarche >12years, 71,8% respondent had no family history, 55,3% had long period >7 days, 50,6% had stress, and 51,7% had routine physical activities. Bivariat statistical analysis by chi-square test showed that there was a significant relation between menstruation and dysmenorrhea in 8th semester students with p = 0,03 (p < 0,05); there was a significant relation between stress level and incidence of dysmenorrhea in 8th semester students with p = 0,023 (p > 0,05). Factors not related to incidences of dysmenorrhea were age of menarche, family history, and exercise habit. Therefore, 8th semester students should manage stress to prevent dysmenorrhea and Soedirman Health Centre should provide better services for patients with dysmenorrhea.

Abstract

A number of smokers in Indonesia place the third rank in the world. More than 60 million Indonesian people are a smoker. A death case due to a disease related to cigarette is about 427.948 persons every year or equal to 1.172 persons/day. The objective of this research was to describe a student?s understanding about smoking activity and negative effects for both public and environmental health. This study was observational research with cross-sectional approach. Population was all students at Public Health Department of Medicine and Health Sciences Faculty, Jenderal Soedirman University, Purwokerto with the following inclusion criteria: 1) Students who entered university from 2007 to 2009; 2) Male; 3) Students were still active attending lectures. Number of sample was seventy-six persons. The result of this research shows that most of the respondents have understood in terms of the negative effects of smoking for both public and environmental health even though some of them (28.95%) were a smoker. This research concludes that theoretically, they understand about the negative effects of smoking for health although some of them are a smoker. As a suggestion, students should make cooperation with Non-Government Organization (NGO) to advocate a local government in order to implement a regulation of a smoking ban. This research used analytical descriptive. And, the data was analyzed by t test dependent and chi square analysis approach. There was significant effect of head elevation positioning on mean arterial pressure, blood pressure, and intracranial pressure among hemorrhagic stroke patients after the treatment (p value 0, 00) of intervention group in the Margono Soekarjo Hospital Purwokerto. Meanwhile, there was no significant change of control group on mean arterial pressure, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and intracranial pressure (p values were 0,206, 0,761 and 0,092, and 0,058 respectively). The study showed that there was significant effect of head elevation positioning on mean arterial pressure, blood pressure, and intracranial pressure among hemorrhagic stroke patients after the treatment (p value 0, 00). Abstract

ABSTRAK    Death of cervical cancer can be prevented by doing an early  detection and the only cost-effective way is screening test of Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (IVA). The purpose of  this study was to analyze the correlation of  knowledge,  cancer fatalism, level of awareness and the participation of Reproductive Aged Women (RAW) in IVA.  The research sample consist of 224 RAW as cases and controls in Purwokerto Timur using proportional random sampling techniques. The measurement of cancer fatalism using Powe Fatalism  Inventory and the level of awareness measured by the Self Regulation Questionnair. The analysis result was conducted by  chi-square and logistic regression. The analysis showed that the correlate factors of RAW?s participation in IVA was cancer fatalism (p=0.024) with OR 2.305 and level  of awareness (p=0.009) with OR 2.806, while the level of awareness was the most dominant  factor. It is concluded that in order to increase RAW?s participation in IVA is needed to increase the RAW?s awareness toward the benefits of screening test of IVA and fatal consequences of cervical cancer and to decrease cancer fatalism by providing the right knowledge about cervical cancer through religious sermons that are often followed by  RAW.   Key words: knowledge, fatalism, awareness,IVA  Kesmasindo, Volume 6(3) Januari 2014, Hal. 208-222
