Abstract

This article discusses the cosmological dimension of Universitas Gadjah Mada's Central Building (UCB) to explore the cosmological space in its architecture, how meaning of the space is constructed, and how the vertical and horizontal space division constructs its cosmological structure. The result of study found that the cosmological space dimension of the UCB consists of symbols which represent harmony and balance between the nature, human and God. The UCB was built based on the concept of abstract and symbolical space. The abstract space can be interpreted as a contextualization of harmonism values between human and nature. While the symbolical space can be interpreted as a contextualization of philosophical concept on imaginary line between Hinduism-Buddhism and Java. Relationship between religion and culture of Hinduism-Buddhism and Java had developed and influenced construction of the building. The UCB architecture contains dimension of macrocosm and micro- cosm space.

Abstract

The background of this article is a metaphysical problem that arose in Immanuel Kant's thought in his Critique of Pure Reason. Through a hermeneutic approach this article aims to analyze the metaphysical problems that arise in Immanuel Kant's epistemology of thought. Based on the research results can be concluded that the unequivocal separation between phenomena and noumena will cause humans will never come to the knowledge of the Transcendent, as well as with moral and aesthetics. This is because such knowledge can only be obtained through my participation as a Subject through the process of continuous existence and more of a personal invitation. In the end it can be concluded that the nature of analog knowledge is the meaning of multidimensional side of human life. This brings consequences to the need for intersubjective dialogue and continual openness. Knowledge is an infinite thing. Human knowledge therefore will never reach the end of the journey but only continuously expanded its horizon.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas gagasan radikalisasi demokrasi yang penting untuk kita pahami agar dapat ditangkap dimensi “ontologi” dan ciri utamanya. Proses radikalisasi demokrasi menghasilkan karakteristik utama, yaitu demokrasi radikal dan plural. Radikalisasi demokrasi mendapatkan justifikasinya untuk merevitalisasi perjuangan sosialis melawan kapitalisme dan mempromosikan perjuangan “gerakan sosial baru” yang demokratik: gerakan perkotaan, ekologi, anti-otoritarianisme, anti-kelembagaan, feminis, anti-rasis, dan (kelompok) minoritas seksual dan regional. Konsep demokrasi memiliki dua nilai fundamental yang instrinsik, yakni: kebebasan dan persamaan.Dalam hasil kajian, didiskusikan bagaimana kedua nilai, kebebasan dan persamaan, ketika berhubungan dengan sistem dan struktur politik, dengan merujuk untuk sebagian dari premis-premis dan praxis demokrasi yang sedang berjalan. Caranya, terutama dengan memusatkan perhatian pada dimensi moral dan ekonomi tempat akar-akar dari beragam bentuk penundukan (subordination) dan penindasan (oppression) tertanam dalam masyarakat kita. Jelas bahwa penundukan dan penindasan adalah antitesa dari semua gagasan tentang kebebasan dan persamaan. Namun demikian, radikalisasi demokrasi tetap mempertahankan prinsip-prinsip etika politik berupa kebebasan dan persamaan dan menuntut prinsip ini dapat diterapkan atau dipraktekkan dengan tepat

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the influence of Indian Buddhism toward Chinese Neo-Confucianism through philosophical perspective. This study uses library research; hermeneutical philosophical method which consists of three elements: descriptive, historical continuity and reflective. Based on data analysis, conclusion can be made such as: Firstly, the influence of Buddhism from India is acceptable and growth rapidly in China because people in China were unsatisfied toward Confucianism and Taoism. Secondly, Neo-Confusianism was a new development, borrowing much from Buddhim and Taoism, it appear as the reaction from the Confuciansim againts the development of Buddhism in China. Thirdly, the Confucianists realized that to compete with Buddhism, they have to give a philosophical thougths from  the classics Chinese philosophy and adjust it to nowdays situation and people condition.  Fourthly Neo-Confusianism’s thought emphasis on Metaphysics and Ethics in theoritically, therefore it have not fix the Economic and the prosperty in society. Fiftly,  Neo-Confusianism reconstructed philosophical thought which the society believe and some from Buddhism

Abstract

Behaviorism as a mainstream in psychology occupies a very significant position in decades. Behaviorism developed a method that is able to overcome the shortcomings of introspection in psychology studies. There are three basic assumptions in behaviorist psychology : (1) The method of behaviorist is out-inside (from outside to inside) so that the focus of the study on psychology is behavior and not on the internal mental state. The method of behaviorist psychology is the opposition of the Cartesian model of thinking that is inside-out. (2) The purpose of psychology was the prediction of behavior. (3) The human body is mechanically qualitatively not much different with animals, just to be more complex, so that there is no qualitative difference between the behavior of humans and non-humans. Based on the above assumptions, the fundamental problem that then arises are follows: (1) Ignored or even rejection of consciousness as a part that should be considered in human behavior. (2) Explanation of a very mechanical style behaviorist only able to explain human behavior in terms of a materialist causa, formalist, and efficient, regardless of cause of finalists who put more emphasis on the intentions of the action. (3) Behaviorism too dogmatic in its aim to predict behavior. Regardless of the problems that exist in the assumptions behaviorist psychology, the flow is still able to contribute in explaining people's behavior, given the influence of the environment (both physical and social environment, cultural and economic) as a source of effective stimulus for the behavior of individuals.

Abstract

Sexual minority workers often choose to hide their true sexual identity to avoid discriminative action towards them. This leads to their invisible position in the workers presentation. Hiding true sexual identity of sexual minority workers creates exclusive relationship between heteronormative majority workers and non-heteronormative minority workers because of unavailability of intensive and personal interactions between them. Thus it makes sexual minority workers are excluded from the workers presentation and preserving discrimination based on sexuality. Using mathematical theory formulated by Alain Badiou, this writing tries to propose a strategy for sexual minority workers to be visible in the workers presentation through coming out action as an event. Coming out in the end is a strategy to fight for equality and an action for discrimination based on sexuality to end.

Abstract

Issue of transgender is rising in the life of Indonesian society. To analyze the issue, I use a philosophical approach of communitarianism politics. This study is a library research with content analysis method and hermeneutics. Result of this study shows that the existence of transgender in Indonesia is closely related to orientation of constructed values in Indonesian society. Indonesia is one country that put heterosexualism as a normative value of society or a form of normativity (hetero-normativity). Therefore, identity of gender should be parallel with sexual identity, there is no third choice. This condition is embedded in Indonesian society as well as an assumption of communitarianism which says that orientation of individual values is based on values of his/her society.Then, it will determine the individual existence in his/her society.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji Pemikiran Karen Armstrong tentang Pluralisme Agama. Pluralisme agama adalah salah satu dari sudut pandang dalam filsafat agama. Penelitian ini berusaha menganalisis untuk menemukan landasan filosofis pemikiran pluralisme agama Karen Armstrong. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian ini adalah pluralisme agama dalam filsafat agama merupakan cara pandang atau sikap dalam menghadapi keberagaman agama, dan konsep pluralisme agama Karen Armstrong adalah tipe pluralisme etika global dengan inti ajarannya adalah compassion. Compassion merupakan landasan filosofis pluralisme agama, yakni compassion sebagai common-platform dari agama-agama dunia;compassion sebagai bagian dari kebenaran dan keselamatan yang absolut dan universal; serta compassion sebagai bentuk aplikatif ajaran agama.

Abstract

Syed Hussein Nashr is one of the leading scholars in the field of science and religion relations,  especially in Islamic  world. A study on Nashr’s thought in this field is an important and necessary effort to understand one of the aspects that contribute particualrly to the development of sciences in the Islamic world, and in the Western world generally. The article aims to understand (1) Syed Hussein Nashr’s concept on science? And (2) the relevance of Nashr’s concept on science to the development of discourses in science and religion? This study focuses on Nashr’sconcept on science and its relevance to the development of the science and religion discourse. This study deploys a framework of philosophy of science, while applying descriptive and analitycal methodological approach. This study finds that: first, Nashr’s concept on science bases it self on the principle of unity, that is a concept of one-ness and inter-relationship of all beings, which allows integration of knowledge and action of human being into harmony. Nashr offers idea of sacred knowledge (scientia sacra) to allow the sacred values embeded in Islamic teaching to spiritualize modern sciences which are developed in the Western world. Secondly, Nashr was the first Muslim scholar who wrote a comprehensive work about history of science in Islam. His influence is attributed to his contribution to the dicsussion of science and to a grand narrative, namely, Islamization of knowledge or Islamic science, that had become a major scholarly debate among Muslim scholars.

Abstract

This paper aims to understand the Pragmatism way of thinking in the practice of education. As a case study, Riri Reza's Laskar Pelangi is used to find out how Pragmatism practices in education in Indonesia. By using descriptive-critical method of interpretation and interpretation, it is revealed that the main characters in the film Laskar Pelangi experience a dilemma situation that leads them to choose a way of life based on internal logic and actual experience. As for the criticisms, as well as the implications of, pragmatism thinking refers its potentiality to the individualistic way of thinking, especially in the axiological sphere, namely by believing that there is no universal value in social life.
