Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of out-of-school learning environments (İzmir Natural Life Park) on the development of secondary school 7th-grade students' mental models about tropical environments and their academic achievement. The research was carried out with the participation of 57 students studying in the 7th grade at a public school in Izmir. During the discovery phase of the lesson plans prepared under the 4E teaching model, lessons were taught under the conservative curriculum with the control group (27), and a visit to the Izmir Natural Life Park Tropical Center was made with the experimental group (30). To compare the mental model developments and academic achievements of the experimental and control groups, the Achievement test consisting of twelve multiple-choice questions with drawings before and after the research was applied in the study conducted in a mixed design. In addition, an interview form consisting of five open-ended questions was given to the experimental group to get their opinions after the trip. The data obtained from the Achievement Test were subjected to independent groups t-test and it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the two groups. This result proves that out-of-school learning environments are used in a planned way, they positively affect students' learning and increase their academic success. The preliminary and final drawings of the mental model and their explanations were analyzed under the guidance of the ‘Development Level Evaluation Table’ determined by the researchers. Accordingly, it is seen that students' perspectives and perceptions about the tropical ecosystem develop after the application. In particular, it is seen that the explanations and drawings of the experimental group are customized, the diversity of life is deepened specific to tropical environments, and the connections are elaborated. In the interview questions applied after the trip, the students stated that they contributed to their learning by observing, experiencing, and enjoying the tropical environment during their visit.

Abstract

The fading of national character can be seen from the large number of people consuming drugs, the consumerist lifestyle, the practice of religious life which is only limited to formalism and symbols. The character crisis has now spread to the campus environment so that it is easy to find student attitudes and behavior that are contrary to moral values. As citizens who uphold the existence and harmony of national identity, the urgency of Pancasila values as the foundation of moral values in the life of society, nation and state needs to be implemented. Pancasila as the basis of the state and national ideology contains divine values, human values, unity values, social values and justice values. If humans are able to realize and really be able to carry out the five basic values contained in Pancasila, then the Indonesian nation can minimize the various conflicts that occur. Thus strengthening character through Pancasila values can unite the diversity of the Indonesian nation. Keywords: Character, Pancasila Values, Students

Abstract

The importance of human capital within organizations and the speed and methods of knowledge acquisition are highlighted by intense global competition and the rapidity of change. This study explores the importance of Strategic Human Resources Management (SHRM) features in the telecommunications industries, as well as their potential for establishing competitive business advantage. The research is based on a case study of three business sectors in Indonesia; each business sector is represented by one company (hereafter, it is called a, b, and c) and the cooperative ties developed by the firm in response to the increasingly dynamic and competitive environment. Following the completion of the appropriate tests and examinations, a, b, and c were found to be among those organizations that recognize the importance of human resources in organizational success. Through SHRM, these companies recognize the importance of their people in making a difference in their organizations and supplying the necessary component for their competitive advantage. Accordingly, it was evident that a good fit within the organization can lead to several positive benefits. People are more committed to their organizations, more satisfied with their jobs, and earn more than people who do not learn to fit in with their organizations. Furthermore, people who are well-socialized, trained and content with the organization they work in are less likely to quit their jobs and more likely to build successful careers within the organization. Training and human behavior procedures are regarded as a source of competitive advantage in the context of organizational and individual socialization.
