Abstract

Soccer is one of the high intensity activities requiring an intensive training since the regulatory process may increase the oxidative stress in the form of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Free radicals occurring due to the imbalance of endogenous antioxidants can be measured by examining the malondialdehyde (MDA) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) levels as endogenous antioxidants. This outcome will affect the formation of Hemoglobin (Hb), automatically affecting the athlete ability to bind oxygen and their VO2Max. The average SOD level of soccer athletes at the Student Sports Education and Training Center (PPLP) was 45.945 U/mg. This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design aimed to determine the correlation between antioxidant intake with pro-oxidants (MDA) and endogenous antioxidants (SOD) at the same research period. In this study, the total sampling technique was chosen. A total of 33 soccer athletes of PPLP Medan, from both the main and reserve teams, participated in this study. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis by employing linear regression statistical tests. The results showed that there was a correlation between antioxidant intake with MDA and SOD levels of soccer athletes with p0.005. The results of multivariate analysis showed that the most influential variable on MDA levels was vitamin C intake, affecting the decrease in MDA levels by 5.545 times. Meanwhile, for SOD levels, the most influential variable was zinc intake, affecting the increase by 6.354 times. In conclusion, there is a correlation between antioxidant intake with MDA and SOD levels, where MDA levels are strongly influenced by vitamin C intake while SOD levels are influenced by zinc intake.

Abstract

A valid, credible, and comprehensive literature meta-study determines the level of accuracy in diagnosing previous research findings. It determines the development of more meaningful and useful future research. The purpose of this study was to examine the development of research articles on small-sided games in soccer. This study is quantitative research with bibliometric study method. Data were collected using the Publish or Perish application applying keywords "small-sided games in soccer" and "small sided games" for articles published in the last 10 years (2014-2024). The collected data were verified using Mendeley and analyzed using the VOSviewer tool. The results of the examination found that research on the small-sided game model had not experienced significant development. It was because most of the 163 papers analyzed still discussed training models for mastering and improving physiology aspects, biomotor, techniques, and soccer tactics. Future research is needed to develop a small-sided game training model that complements mental or character values, including perseverance, discipline, teamwork, and respect. This study contributes as an evaluation of the small-sided game model article publication database that can be used by advanced researchers to create more significant future research on more impactful, meaningful, and futuristic training models for young athletes to become elite athletes with strong character.

Abstract

The ability to regulate emotions is crucial for an athlete psychological well-being and performance. Poor emotional regulation may lead to maladaptive behaviors, such as emotional eating—a pattern of food consumption driven by negative emotions. Young athletes experience intense pressure from training, competition, and academic aspects, increasing the risk of emotional eating. This behavior affects not only their physical health but also their endurance and overall performance. This study aimed to examine the effect of emotion regulation on emotional eating in young athletes and the role of gender as the moderating variable. A quantitative approach was used with Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) analysis via SmartPLS software. Data were collected using questionnaires filled out by 82 young athletes, measuring emotion regulation using IERQ4S and emotional eating based on Van Strien's theory. In this study, accidental sampling was used. The results indicated that emotion regulation negatively affected emotional eating, meaning that better emotion regulation is associated with lower emotional eating tendencies. However, gender did not have a significant effect, either directly or as a moderator. These findings emphasize the importance of emotion regulation in preventing emotional eating in young athletes. The results of the study can be used to design interventions to strengthen emotion regulation, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based approaches, and to support well-being and performance of athletes in training programs. Further research is needed to examine other factors, such as anxiety and stress in emotional eating behavior in young athletes, with a more diverse sample coverage in terms of sport types and age range to enrich understanding.

Abstract

Softball is a sport that requires a good coordination between physical and technical aspects. Anaerobic fatigue can be a factor affecting the execution of softball batting techniques. However, an in-depth understanding of the impact of anaerobic fatigue on biomechanical variables in the batting technique context is still under-explored. This study aimed to identify and analyze the effect of anaerobic fatigue on changes in biomechanical variables in softball batting techniques. The purpose of this study was to evaluate how anaerobic fatigue affects key biomechanical variables in softball batting techniques. This information is expected to provide additional insight into the importance of anaerobic fitness in improving the performance of softball athletes. This study used experimental method with a pretest-posttest design. The subjects were experienced softball players selected using purposive sampling. Anaerobic fatigue was induced using a high-intensity training protocol. The biomechanical variables measured included bat swing speed, swing angle, and shot precision. Measurements were taken before and after the training. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test to examine significant changes. The study showed that anaerobic fatigue had a significant effect on key biomechanical variables in softball batting techniques. There was a significant decrease in bat swing speed and batting precision after anaerobic fatigue. The average bat swing speed before fatigue was 3.60 m/s, which decreased to 2.14 m/s after fatigue. In addition, the swing angle and batting precision also showed significant changes, with a lower left knee angle approaching the ground in the pre-fatigue group. This study found empirical evidence supporting the effect of anaerobic fatigue on biomechanical variables in softball batting technique. These results provide an important contribution to the general understanding of the relationship between anaerobic fatigue and technical performance in softball. Therefore, athlete trainings and preparations need to pay attention to anaerobic fitness aspects to maintain optimal performance during the game.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze squat movements of futsal players who have leg injury history. The research method used in this study was descriptive analytics with a one-shot case study design. The samples were given one treatment and then were observed to obtain the results of the treatment. This study involved 9 Kapten Muda Futsal Academy futsal players who had a history of leg injuries as samples selected using purposive sampling technique. The results showed the mean of spinal tilt angle 65.56 ± 6.19 degrees, hip angle 80.44 ± 6.64 degrees, knee angle 67.52 ± 10.35 degrees, and ankle angle 54.66 ± 6.50 degrees. It concludes that squats performed by Kapten Muda Futsal Academy futsal players who had leg injury history were not optimal and had not been able to reach the 90 degree squat position. This study found that poor ankle mobility, an angle less than 35 degrees, and the history of knee injury will get a squat with a body tilt position leaning forward and backward, causing the squat movement to be not optimal. The optimal squat technique should have feet shoulder width apart and knee movement no further forward than the toes, gaze in a forward position, and do the squat position at full depth 115-125 degrees. However, this study only used one camera to record squat movements to analyze hip, spine, knee, and ankle angles. It is hoped that future studies analyze the squat movement at a full depth position of 125 degrees.

Abstract

Currently, a lot of anti-moral behaviors occur among students at school. The aim of this article was to provide a better understanding of how physical education can be used as a mean to develop moral values in individuals. Research trends and future research directions are also discussed further in this research. A systematic literature review method was used by applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. There were various criteria set in this research. Of the 37 articles found, only 9 articles met the criteria to be included in further analysis. The results of this research explored three components, namely research trends in the field of physical education and moral education, the relationship between physical education and moral education, and future research directions related to physical education and moral education. The relationship between physical education and moral education still has pros and contras due to the research result variations. Further studies are needed to confirm the theory related to this study. Research involving diverse sample backgrounds is highly recommended for future research.

Abstract

Reading has long been recognized as an essential activity to instill values, such as moral value, in children. Physical literacy, as the key factor to a child lifelong physical activity, becomes one of the potential vital values to be nurtured through reading activities. However, there has not been any child book targeting early physical literacy. Therefore, this research aimed to compile a story book for children, aged 4-6 years, specifically designed to enhance physical literacy by integrating fundamental movements in the storyline, including the locomotor, non-locomotor, and manipulative movements. This study was conducted in design-based research method framework which includes five procedures, namely need analysis, planning, product design development, testing, and revision stages. Results of expert judgment and user reviews showed that the draft of the book was suitable for use after revision. A substantial revision had been made to the draft based on the suggestions given by experts and users/practitioners and rated as suitable. This research has successfully produced a story book for children in two languages, Indonesian and English languages. The book has integrated suitable fundamental movements and been provided with pictures and illustrations to be used in reading activities. This book is expected to help children enhance early Physical Literacy in a fun way and suitable with their development stages.

Abstract

A referee has a role to determine the quality and the comfort of a match. Therefore, a referee is expected to have a good self-efficacy and interpersonal communication. This study was aimed to examine the correlation between self-efficacy and interpersonal communication with the performance of badminton referees. This study involved 30 referees and used a questionnaire for measuring self-efficacy and interpersonal communication. The referee appraisal form provided by the Executive Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PB PBSI) was used to measure the performance of badminton referees. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between self-efficacy (X1) and interpersonal communication (X2) with the performance of badminton referees (Y) as indicated by the value of Fcount = 61.49 which is greater than Ftable = 3.34 and a coefficient value correlation of Ry1-2 = 0,91. The coefficient of determination was (Ry1-2)2 = 0,83, meaning that self-efficacy and intrapersonal communication had a contribution of 83% to the referee performance, whereas the 17% was influenced by other factors. This study showed that there was a correlation between self-efficacy and interpersonal communication with the performance of badminton referees. For this reason, to improve the performance of badminton referees, the elements of self-efficacy and communication should be included as materials in referee trainings.
