Abstract

Shot put performance in Indonesia significantly lags behind Asian standards (27.5% gap), hindered by the absence of population-specific kinematic data for evidence-based training development. This study aimed to establish normative kinematic parameters for Indonesian shot put athletes by using the glide technique and examine relationships between technical consistency and throwing performance. A cross-sectional observational study analyzed 16 regional-level shot put athletes from Central Java (9 males, 7 females; aged 18.9±2.0 years) during provincial championships. The two best trials per athlete were analyzed using 2D kinematic analysis with Kinovea software (120 fps). The primary parameters measured were release velocity, release angle, release height, and trunk rotation angle. Technical consistency was assessed via Average Relative Error (ARE) and coefficient of variation (CV%). Pearson correlation examined relationships between parameter variability and throwing distance. The analysis of kinematic mean values showed a release velocity of 11.01±1.18 m/s, a release angle of 37.5±3.2°, a release height of 2.02±0.13 m, and trunk rotation of 41.4±5.4°, with a mean throwing distance of 12.28±1.68 m. Central Java athletes demonstrated 18.4% lower release velocity compared to elite Asian athletes (11.01 vs. 12.80 m/s). Fundamental parameters showed low variability (ARE 8%), whereas trunk rotation exhibited higher inconsistency (ARE 21.4%). Significant inverse correlations were found between variability and performance for release velocity ARE (r = −0.624, p=0.009), release angle ARE (r = −0.542, p = 0.031), and trunk rotation ARE (r = −0.687, p=0.003). Athletes with ARE 10% on key parameters achieved 15.8% greater throwing distances than those with higher variability (13.2 m vs. 11.4 m). This study provides the first-ever normative kinematic data for Indonesian shot put athletes, revealing substantial performance gaps compared to international standards. Technical consistency, particularly in trunk rotation and release velocity, strongly influences throwing performance. The established reference values and performance zones enable evidence-based talent identification, technique assessment, and training program design for regional-level athletes.

Abstract

This study investigated the contributions of physical fitness and training facilities to volleyball athlete performance within an integrated framework incorporating mental readiness. The research was motivated by suboptimal regional competitive achievements, highlighting the need for an evidence-based athlete development approach. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was employed. The data were analyzed using covariance-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with AMOS. The sample consisted of 120 active volleyball athletes representing several clubs and competitive levels from 12 regencies and cities in South Sulawesi under the supervision of local PBVSI organizations. Instrument validity and reliability were confirmed through Confirmatory Factor Analysis prior to testing the structural relationships. The results revealed that physical fitness and training facilities had significant positive direct effects on athletic performance and also significantly influenced mental readiness. However, mental readiness did not demonstrate a statistically significant direct relationship with performance. The structural model achieved acceptable goodness-of-fit indices, indicating adequate model fit. Overall, the findings suggest that volleyball performance is primarily influenced by physiological capacity and infrastructural support, while psychological readiness serves as a complementary factor in athlete development.

Abstract

Talent identification and development in kayaking rely heavily on the coach decision-making. However, empirical evidence regarding the prioritization of talent indicators in developing sport contexts remains limited. This study aimed to identify and prioritize key indicators used by Indonesian kayak coaches in talent development decision-making. A qualitative research design was employed, involving 32 experienced kayak coaches selected through purposive sampling based on coaching experience, participation in national and international competitions, and expertise in coaching methodology. Indicator formulation was derived from a systematic literature review and expert evaluation, and subsequently analyzed using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) to determine the relative weight of each indicator and sub-indicator. The findings revealed that technical indicators were considered the most influential in talent identification and selection, followed by psychological and biomotor indicators. In contrast, anthropometric and physiological indicators demonstrated relatively low importance, each contributing only 6.3% to the overall decision model. This study provides novel evidence by applying a structured evidence-based decision-support approach to talent development in kayaking, a sport that remains underrepresented in talent identification research. The results highlight the effectiveness of AHP in supporting coach judgments and recommend the adoption of a weighted indicator system to enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of kayak talent development programs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Integrating life skills into sport programs, including pétanque, is an effective way to promote Positive Youth Development (PYD). This approach enhances youth quality, protects them from negative environmental influences, and strengthens their roles as agents of change. This study aimed to compare the effects of pétanque training with life-skill integration and training without life-skill integration on improving PYD. An experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was employed, involving 24 students who were members of the Siliwangi University pétanque student activity unit selected through purposive sampling. The samples were divided into two groups, including experimental (n=12) and control (n=12) groups. Measurements were conducted using the Life Skills Scale for Sport (LSSS). The findings showed that pétanque training integrated with life skills significantly improved PYD, whereas training without this integration did not have a significant effect. These results can serve as a consideration for young pétanque coaches in designing training programs that focus not only on technical aspects but also support the character development and psychosocial maturity of the participants.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model on the student active engagement and basketball learning outcomes. A quantitative quasi-experimental with a pretest–posttest control group design was applied. The sample consisted of 64 eighth-grade students, divided into a TGfU group (n = 32) and a conventional learning group (n = 32). The intervention was conducted over eight sessions. Data were collected using an active engagement observation sheet, basic skill tests (passing, dribbling, shooting), and the Game Performance Assessment Instrument (GPAI). Data were analyzed using ANCOVA with pre-test scores as covariates. The results showed that the TGfU group achieved significantly higher posttest scores than the conventional group in active engagement (F = 28.60; p 0.001), passing (F = 14.10; p 0.001), dribbling (F = 10.92; p = 0.002), shooting (F = 16.80; p 0.001), and GPAI (F = 24.50; p 0.001). This study concludes that TGfU is effective for improving learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study provided a structured bibliometric mapping of research on social support and participation barriers in adaptive sports for athletes with disabilities and examined its implications for inclusive physical education. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using the Scopus database, covering publications from 2015 to 2025. A systematic search was conducted on 31 December 2025, identifying 142 documents, of which 71 peer-reviewed, English-language journal articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed following the PRISMA protocol. VOS viewer was employed to analyze publication trends, country contributions, collaboration networks, citation structures, and keyword co-occurrence patterns. Findings indicated a substantial increase in publication output since 2022, peaking in 2025 with 24 articles. Research production was concentrated in Europe and North America, led by Spain (10 publications), the United Kingdom (9), and the United States (8). Four major thematic clusters were identified, including psychosocial aspects and quality of life, social support and psychological factors, structural barriers and participation inclusivity, and clinical and rehabilitative approaches. The analysis revealed a fragmented knowledge structure, with limited integration between psychosocial and structural dimensions. This study advances the field by explicitly mapping their intersection and proposing integrative, policy-oriented directions to strengthen inclusive physical education.

Abstract

This study analyzed the performance needs of basketball coaching and development policies in Indonesia, focusing on actual performance, expected performance, and performance gaps. Using an explanatory sequential mixed-method design with 35 respondents (teachers, coaches, parents), the study evaluated six variables, including funding support, club-school collaboration, training facilities, competition system, coach development system, and career support. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Kruskal-Wallis test, while qualitative data were obtained through interviews. The results showed consistent perceptions across stakeholder groups that actual performance remained suboptimal, while expected performance was high. Performance gaps arose from limited funding, weak collaboration, inadequate facilities. There was no established competition system, coach development system, or clear career support. The findings provide an empirical foundation for formulating a more integrated basketball coaching and development policy model.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has encouraged innovation in educational practices through digital learning media. However, studies specifically developing and validating Google Sites-based interactive media for handball instruction in Physical Education, Sports, and Health learning (PJOK) at the junior high school level remain limited. Therefore, the novelty of this study lies in the systematic development and expert validation of an interactive Google Sites-based learning medium designed specifically for handball instruction to support active and problem-based learning. This study aimed to develop and assess the validity of the media implemented at a junior high school in Padang. The research employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. Needs analysis was conducted through classroom observations and teacher interviews. The product was developed using Google Sites by integrating text, images, videos, and evaluation components. Validation was carried out by media, language, and subject-matter experts using Likert-scale instruments, while the data were analyzed through percentage calculations. The results showed an overall validity score of 90.67%, categorized as very valid. These findings imply that validated web-based media can enhance student engagement and support more interactive PJOK learning.
